E n 9-Channel Amplif ier P A-MC5500 Instruction Manual Thank you for purchasing an Onkyo 9-Channel Amplifier. Please read this manual thoroughly before making connections and plu gging in the unit. Follo wing t he instructions in t his manual will enable you to obtain opti mum performance and listeni ng enjoyment from your new 9-Channel Amplifier.

3 Precautions 1. Recording Copyright —Unless it’ s for personal use only , recording copyright ed material is ille gal with- out the permission of the copyright holder . 2. A C Fuse —The A C fuse inside the unit is not user- serviceable. If you cannot turn on the unit, contact your Onkyo dealer .
4 Precautions —Continued F or British models Replacement and mounting of an A C plug on the power supply cord of this unit should be performed only by qualified service personnel.

6 Amplifier Precautions Before using the P A-MC5500 po wer amplif ier, be sure to read the page abo ve entitled Im portant Safety Instruc- tions and this page of Amplifi er Precautions. While using the P A-MC5500, the internal temper ature will fairly ri se.
7 Quic k Operation Guide Here is a quick guide for those who wa nt to listen to music or vie w their fa vorite movies as soon as possible. Connections and operations are explained briefly here for the purpose of just getting you started. For those of you who want to operate the P A-MC5500 (the amplif ier) right away , follo w the guide belo w .
8 Fr ont & Rear P anels a PO WER switc h This is the main power switch. W hen set to OFF, the amplif ier is completely shutdo wn. It must be set to ON to set the amplifier to On or Standby . b ON/ST ANDBY button This button is used to set the amplifier to On or Standby .
9 Fr ont & Rear Panels —Continued This unit comprises 9 independent power amplif iers, each being ca pable of reproducing the same quality sound through its channel. Note that you should connect an input source and a speaker to each channel in use.
10 Front & Rear P a nels —Continued b INPUT SELECT switch This switch is located be tween the balanced input and single-ended RCA input for each channel. Use this switch to select the input type for its channel. When setting the switch to the upper side, the bal- anced input is sele cted.
11 Connecting the Amplifier Before connecting the speakers , place them correctly by consulting the instruction manua ls that came with them. For surround playback, the conf iguration and placement of your speakers are v ery important. Please note that con necting speakers with a lo w po wer input rating does not produce lar ge sound volumes.
12 Connecting the Amplifier —Continued Connecting the Speaker Cab les The follow ing illustration shows which spea ker should be connected to each pair of terminals. If you’ re using only one surround back speaker , connect it to the SURR BA CK L terminal.

15 Connecting the Amplifier —Continued The FR ONT L/R and SURR B ACK L/R outputs can be used wi th front speak ers and surround back speakers respec- tiv ely , or bi-amped to provide separate tweeter and woofer feeds for a pair of front speak ers that support bi-amping, providing improv ed bass and treble performance.
16 Connecting the Amplifier —Continued Y ou can use three spe aker systems with this amplif ier —a surround-sound speaker system in your main listening room, Zone 2: a stereo speake r system in a second room, Zone 3 : a stereo speaker system in a third room.
17 Connecting the Amplifier —Continued ■ Connection 2 Main room : Y ou can enjoy up to 7-channel surround-sou nd playback. Zone 2 : Y ou can enjoy 2-channel stereo playback and video playback.
18 T r oubleshooting If the P A-MC5500 fails to function normally , first check the follo wing points before contacting your Onkyo dealer . If the problem is not solved after going through the follo wing list, unplug the power cord and contact your Onkyo dealer .
