4 Intr oduction The HTP-240’ s and SKS-HT240’ s stylish enclosures are made of aluminum and their slim design makes them ideal for use with LCD and plasma TVs. The HTP-240 is a 5.1-channel speaker package consist- ing of front left and right speakers, a center speaker , sur- round left and right speakers, and a po wered subwoofer .
5 Getting to kno w Y our Speaker P ac kage A ST ANDBY/ON indicator Red: Subwoofer in standby mode Green: Subwoofer on W ith the Auto Standby function, the SKW -240 automatically turns on when an input signal is detected in Standby mode. When there’ s no input signal for about 20 minutes, the SKW -240 automat- ically enters Standby mode.
6 V arious Mounting Methods If you intend to stand the front speakers on the floor or on a TV stand or A V stand, you should attach the sup- plied front speaker bases. T o do this, align the mounting holes in the base with base/stand inserts on the front speaker’ s rear panel, and secure by using four of the sup- plied fixing screws.
7 V arious Mounting Methods —Continued ■ Mounting horizontally To mount the center speaker horizontally , use the two ke yhole slots sho wn to hang each speaker on two screws that are securely screwed into the w all. Center speaker Caution: A mounting screw’ s ability to support a speaker depends on how well it’ s anchored to the wall.
8 Connecting the Speaker s Read the following before connecting your speak ers: •T urn off your amp before making an y connections. • The nominal impedance of these speakers is 8 Ω . Use only an amp that supports this impedance. •P ay close attention to speaker wiring polarity .
9 About Home Theater The HTP-240/SKS-HT240’ s great sound means that you can enjoy surround sound with a real sense of mov ement in your own home—just lik e being in a movie theater or concert hall. Enjoying Home Theater Front left and right speaker s These output the ov erall sound.
10 Adjustment To set the level of the subw oofer, use the OUTPUT LEVEL control. Set it so that bass sounds are ev enly bal- anced with the treble sounds from the other speakers. Because our ears are less sensitiv e to very low bass sounds, there’ s a temptation to set the lev el of the sub- woofer too high.
