4 POWER SOURCE S You can powe r the re corder fro m any of the f ollowin g sourc es: • T wo AA batter ies • AC power (usi ng an AC adapt er) • V ehicle battery power (using a DC adapt er) INST ALLING B A TTERIES You can use two AA batter ie s (not suppl ied ) to power the recorde r.
5 Cautions : • Use only fre sh batteri es of t he required s ize and type. • Remove the batteri es if t he reco rder wi ll not be used for a fe w weeks or more . Batter ies can l eak chemical s and damage the re corder . Replace the b atterie s if t he REC/BAT T indi cat or dim s or doe s n ot lig ht.
6 Foll ow these steps to p ower the record er from AC power. 1. Set the adapte r ’s volt age switc h to 3V . 2. Inser t the orange-ti pped adapt er plug i nto th e adapt er ’s sock et. Li ne up TIP on the sock et with + (posi tive) on the plug. 3.
7 USING VEHICLE BA TTERY POWER Using a DC ada pter, such a s Cat. No. 270-1560 A, you can power the recor der from your vehicl e’s bat- te ry. Cautions : • Y ou must use an adapt er that supp lies.
8 Foll ow these steps t o power the recor der from your vehi cle’s battery . 1. Set the adapte r ’s volt age switc h to 3V . 2. Inser t the orange-ti pped adapt er plug i nto th e adapt er ’s sock et. Li ne up TIP on the sock et with + (posi tive) on the plug.
9 OPE RA TI ON Caution: The ta pe stops and the r ecorder turns off when the t ape reache s the end. Howeve r, we rec om - mend that you pres s STOP /EJ as soon as possible af - ter you fi nish playi ng or rec ording a tape . This protec ts the tape by rele asing it f rom the tape-ha n- dling part s.

11 Normal Recording 1. Set VOX to OFF . 2. Load the cassett e tap e. 3. Set T A PE SPEED as f ollows: •T o 1.2 c m to double the tap e’ s recor ding time. •T o 2.4 c m for bett er sound qual ity . 4. Pr ess REC t o begin r ecording. This also pus hes down PL A Y .

16 3. Press PLA Y . 4. Adjus t VO LU ME to a comfor table listening level . 5. Press STO P/EJ to stop pl aybac k. Notes: • T o p lay t he ot her side of the t ape, unload it, t urn it over , and reload it. • T o tempo rarily s top the t ape, sli de P AUSE to ON .
17 If you press and hol d the switc h toward F AST- F/CUE or RE W/RE VIEW during r ecordi ng, the RE C but ton re- leases . You can hear t he t ape as it fast- forwar ds or rewinds . When you releas e the switc h, the recorder begins nor mal playb ack.

PREVENTING ACCIDEN T AL ERASURE Most m icrocasse tte t apes hav e an era se-protec tion tab for each side of t he tape.
20 ERASING A CASSETTE T APE If yo u no l onger want a recor ding, you can re cord over it or e rase it . To reco rd over a cas sette tape , be sure t he erase- prot ectio n tabs are i n place. Then simply r ecord as usual . The r ecor der re cords ov er the pre vious r ecor d- ing.
