of the central suppor t shaft until the three tray arms are touching the legs of the tripod. The flat side of the acces - sor y tr ay should be f acing up.
Inserting the Eyepiece Loosen the thumbscrew on the 1.25" adapter (Figure 4) and remov e the small dust cap. Inser t the 25mm eyepiece into the f ocuser and secure it with the thumbscrew . Y our telescope is now completely assembled and should appear as shown in Figure 1.
5. Using Y our T elescope Focusing the T elescope With the 25mm e yepiece inser ted in the focuser , mov e the telescope so the front (open) end is pointing in the general direction of an object at least 1/4-mile awa y . Now , with y our fingers, slowly rotate one of the f ocusing knobs until the object comes into shar p focus .
The SkyView Pro 8 EQ has a focal length of 1000mm, which when used with the supplied 25mm ey epiece yields: 1000mm = 40x 25mm The magnification provided b y the 10mm eyepiece is: 1000mm = 100x 10mm The maximum attainable magnification for a telescope is directly related to how much light it can gather .
star Sigma Octantis lies about 1° from the SCP , but it is barely visible with the nak ed eye (magnitude 5.5). F or general visual obser v ation, an appro ximate polar align - ment is sufficient. 1. Lev e l the e quator ial m ount by ad justi ng the l ength of the three tripod legs.
The reticle of the polar axis finder scope has a tiny star map printed on it that makes precise polar alignment quick and easy . If you do not hav e a clear view of P olaris from your obser ving site, you will not be ab le to use the polar-axis finder to precisely polar align the telescope .
Note: If y ou have an optional motor drive attached, you will need to loosen the c lutch on the R.A. (and Dec. f or dual-axis drives) gear shaft before using the slo w-motion control knob. T racking Celestial Objects When you observe a celestial object through the telescope, you’ll see it dr ift slo wly across the field of view .
Most setting circles are not accurate enough to put an object dead-center in the telescope’ s eyepiece , but they should place the object some where within the field of view of the find- er scope, assuming the equatorial mount is accurately polar aligned.
T o check collimation, remo ve the eyepiece and look down the f ocuser drawtube . Y ou should see the secondar y mirror cen - tered in the dra wtube, as well as the reflection of the pr imary mirror c.
Adjusting the Primary Mirror The final adjustment is made to the pr imary mirror . It will need adjustment if , as in Figure 14d, the secondary mirror is cen - tered under the f ocuser and the refl.
8. Astr onomical Obser ving F or many users, the SkyView Pro 8 EQ telescope will be a major leap into the world of amateur astronomy . This section is intended to get you ready f or y our v oy ages through the night sky . Site Selection Pick a location aw ay from street lights and bright y ard lighting.
used to achiev e higher or lo wer pow ers. It is quite common f or an observer to own five or more ey epieces to access a wide range of magnifications. This allows the obser v er to choose the best eyepiece to use depending on the object being view ed.

9. Astr ophotography When coupled to a 35mm single-lens reflex camera, the SkyView Pro becomes a telephoto lens. T o attach a camera, you need only a T -ring for y our specific camera model and the included camera adapter . First you must attach the included camera adapter to the SkyView Pro 8 EQ’ s f ocuser.
Aim the telescope at a deep-sky object. It should be a f airly lar ge deep -sky obj ect, as the ca mera len s wi ll likely have a wide field of vie w . Chec k to make sure that the object is also centered in the camera’ s viewfinder . T ur n the motor dr iv e on.
