Using your h a ndheld with a PIM 13 T o remove the cover: 1. Open the cover and grasp the back flap. 2. Gently slide the cover to one side unti l the rail slides out fr om the groove on the back of your handheld. Do not pull the rail out of the gr oove.

In this section, you l earn the pr ocedur es for cr eating letters, numb ers, punctuation, and symbols, as well as some G raff iti tips and tric ks.
Using Graf fiti writing to en ter data 25 T o write Graf fiti letters : 1. T ap the screen wher e you want your text to go. NO T E Y ou need to tap abo ve the Graffiti writing area, and must se e a blinking cur sor before you write t he text. 2. Use the tables on the following pages to find the str oke shape for the letter you want to cr eate.

T o make capital letters, you must f irst “shift” to c aps—just as you pre ss the Shift key on a keyboa rd—and then write the c haracter stro kes.

The IR port supports the IrCOMM implementation of the standar ds for infrar ed communication est ablished by the Infrare d Data Association (IrDA).
Beaming da ta 33 TIP F or best results, P alm handhelds should be betwee n 1 0 centimeters (approximately 4 inc he s) and 1 meter (approximately 39 inc hes) ap art, and the path between the two handhelds must be clear of obstacles. Bea ming distance to other devices may be different.

Common task s 43 Common ta sks The tasks described in this section use the term “r ecor ds” to refe r to an individual item in any of the appl ications: a single Date Book event, Addr ess Book entry , T o Do List item, Note Pad note, Memo Pad memo, or Expens e item.

Common task s 49 T o rena me a category: 1. T ap the category pick list in the upper - right corner of the l ist scr een. 2. T ap Edit Categories. 3. Select the category that you want to r ename, and then tap Rename. 4. Enter the new name for the category , and then tap OK.

TIP If you select text in an application before you tap Find, the selected text automatically appear s in the Find dialog box.

Continue to spell the name you’re looking for , or when you see the name, tap it. 5. T ap Add. The name you selected, al ong with the other information associat ed with it, is pasted into the recor d you selected in step 1.

The list scr olls to the first entry th at begins with t hat letter . If you write another letter , the list scr olls to the first entry that starts with those two letters.

If you do not w ant to install an applic ation, select it, and then clic k Remove. (This does not remove the application from your computer; it simply r emoves it from the list of a pplications to ins tall.

If the file you want to i nstall is not listed in the dialog box, go to the f older where you copied the file. Most Palm ™ application files h ave the ext ension PRC, P DB, PQA, or SCP .

77 CHAPT ER 8 Using Date Book Date Book lets you quickly and easi ly schedule appointments or any kind of activity assoc iated with a time and date. Use Date Book to do the following: ■ Enter a description of y ou r appointment and assign it to a specific t ime and date.
Chapter 8 Using Date Boo k 78 NO T E Press the Date Bo ok application but ton repeatedly to cycle through the Day , W eek, Month, and Agenda views. When you open Date Book, the scr een shows the curr ent date and a list of times for a normal busi ness day .

Chapter 8 Using Date Boo k 82 Setting an alarm for an event The Alarm setting enables you to set an alarm f or events in your Date Book. Y ou can set an al arm to notify y ou minutes, hours, or days befor e an event.
S c heduling repeatin g or continuous event s 83 Setting an alarm for an u ntimed event Y ou c an set a silent alarm for an untimed event. In this case, the alarm triggers at the specified period of minutes, hours , or days befor e midnight (beginning) of the day of the untimed event.

Ta p O K . After you schedule a r epeating or continuous event, this icon appears to the f ar right of the event.
Changing the Da te Book view 85 ■ If you change the date of an occurr ence of a repeat ing event (e.g., fr om January 14th to January 1 5th) and apply the change to all occurr ences, the new date becomes the start da te of the r epeating event. Y our handheld adjusts the end date to maintain the durati on of the event.
