4 S Do not put pres sur e on the s aw at the end of the cut . Apply ing pres s ure can c aus e y ou to lose c ontr ol when t he cu t is c ompleted. S Stop the engine befor e setting the saw down. S Do not operate a c hain saw that is dam- aged, impr operly adjus ted, or not c om- pletely and s ecur ely ass embled.
5 S Turn the engine of f and let saw cool in a non-combus tible area, not on dry leav es , str aw , paper, etc. Slow ly r emove fuel c ap and refuel unit. S Store the unit and fuel in an ar ea w here fuel vapor s c annot r each s park s or open flames from water heaters , elect ric motors or sw itches , furnac es , etc.
6 S Keep a good, fir m gr ip on the saw w ith both hands when the engine is running and don’t let go. A firm grip w ill help y ou reduc e kic kbac k and maintain contr ol of the s aw. Keep the fingers of y our lef t hand enc ir- cling and y our left thumb under the fr ont handlebar .

8 Adjus ting Screw Chain Br ake N uts Guide Ba r Adjus ting Sc rew - - 1/4 Turn S Lift up the tip of the bar and s ecur ely tight- en the chain brake nuts wi th the bar tool. S Rec heck chain tens ion. Chain Br ake Nuts WAR N I N G : If the s aw is operated with a loos e c hain, the chain could jump off the guide bar and r esult in serious injury.
9 START ING A C OLD ENG INE ( or a warm engine a fter running out of fuel) NOTE : In the follow ing steps , w hen the cho- ke/fas t idle lev er is pulled out to the full ex - tent, the cor rect t hrottle sett ing for s tarting is set automatic ally. ON /STOP S WITCH ON STOP (SIDE VIEW ) 1.
10 CUT TING M ETHODS IMPORTANT POINTS S Chec k c hain tension befor e firs t use and after 1 minute of oper ation. See CH AIN TENSION in the ASSEMBL Y s ect ion. S Cut wood only. Do not cut metal, plastic s , masonry, non-wood building materials , etc.
11 S Be alert to s igns t hat the tree is ready to fall: cr ack ing s ounds, w idening of the fell- ing c ut, or movement in the upper branc hes. S As tree s tarts to fall, stop saw, put it down, and get away quic kly on y our planned re- treat path. S DO NO T cut down a part ially fallen tree with your saw.
12 LIMBING AND PRU NING WAR N I N G : Be alert for and guard agains t kic k bac k. D o not allow the mov ing chain t o cont act any other branc hed or o bject s at the nos e of the guide bar when limbing or pruning. A llowing s uc h c ontac t c an res ult in serious inj ury .
13 BAR MAI NTENANCE If y our s aw c uts to one side, h as to be forc ed through t he cu t, or been run w ith an improper amount of bar lubric ation it may be nec ess ar y to s erv ic e your b ar . A wor n bar will damage y our c hain and mak e cut tin g di f fi cul t.
14 CAUTION : It is impor tant to prevent gum depos its f rom for ming in es senti al fuel sy s tem parts s uch as the carburetor, fuel fil- ter , fuel hose, or fuel tank dur ing s torage.
