4 Chapter 2. Setting up your camera All batteri es lose power ov er time-ev en if they ’re not be ing used . For longer li fe, ch arge the ba ttery prior to use. Charge th e Li-Ion batte ry anyti me-don’t wai t until it ’s exhausted . Charge until the Battery Chargin g light st ops blin king.
5 2 Connect the camera, USB cable, and power adapt er. Use the U SB cable t o connect th e camera to a comp uter USB po rt. Charge u ntil the Battery Charging lig ht stops bli nking. (USB cha rging is typical ly slower than the p reviou s method .) Your cam era has e nough int ernal mem ory for a couple p ractice p ictures.
6 2 Insert a card until i t clicks into place. (T o remove a car d, press and relea se it.) When you turn on the camera, it checks to see if a card is inserted. If pictures/videos are detected in inte rnal memo ry, the camera prompts you to m ove them to the card.
7 The first time you turn on the came ra, you’re prompted to choose your languag e and s et the dat e/time. 1 Press 23 to find your language. 2 When your language is highlighted, press the 4 button. 1 Press 23 to change the date forma t, if desired.
8 Chapter 3. Taking pictures and videos When you tur n on the camera for the first time , it’s ready to take picture s in Smart Ca pture mode . (After that, it rem embers the last mode yo u used.) 1 Use the d isplay to compo se the picture . 2 Press t he Shutter b utton halfwa y down to focus and set exposure.
9 To adjus t camera settings , you can either use: • 3 butto n - for acc ess to al l settings • Shortcuts -icons of the mo st popula r sett ings, at the top o f the d isplay Adjusting camera settings By default, short cuts are displayed and acti ve.
10 Don’t mis s out on great pi ctures an d videos -keep yo ur batte ry fully charged. 1 Use the d isplay to compo se the video. 2 To star t recording , press and release the Video Record button . To st op rec ordi ng, pr ess and rele ase th e butt on again.
11 Press 23 to choose a picture-taking mode (Smart Ca pture, Program, or a S cene mode). Choos e a Scene m ode befo re taking a pict ure. 1 Press 23 to change the picture- taking mode to Sce ne modes (SCN) , then press the 4 button. 2 Press 23 45 to highlight a Scene mode, then press the 4 button.

14 Chapter 5. Transferring pictures to your computer 1 Turn off the cam era. 2 Using the USB cable, connect the camera to a computer USB port. (Use only the cable included with th is camera.) The came ra turns on. 3 Follow the computer prompt s to transfer pictures/ videos to your computer.
15 Chapter 6. Using an EYE-FI Card (optional accessory) This ch apter pertai ns only if y ou’re us ing an EYE-FI Ca rd. An EYE-FI Card s tores pictures just l ike an SD/SDHC Card d oes. It also has a bu ilt-in Wi-Fi anten na that uses your W i-Fi netw ork to trans fer pictur es from you r came ra to your computer or mobile device.
16 1 In picture-taking mode, press the 3 button. Press 23 to scroll through the list. 2 Highlight EYE-FI, then pre ss the 4 button. 3 Choose Selective Sha re (recommende d). 4 When y ou’re in range of your know n Wi-Fi networ k, turn on th e ca mera to tr ansf er p ictu res t o you r com puter or mobile device.

18 Install the im age viewi ng/manag ing/ed iting sof tware “Me diaImpres sion”. 1 Turn your PC on. 2 Insert the CD-ROM i nto the CD-ROM/DVD driv e. If the top scr een (illustratio n below) appea rs, go to Step 5. 3 Click [Com puter] in the S tart menu.

27 Warning • Do not place the cam era and its acc essories wit hin the reach of sm all chil dr en. 1. If the prod uct falls or is op erated accid entally, it may c ause seriou s persona l injuries. 2. Wra pping the stra p around a neck may cause suf focation.
28 • Do not subj ect the camer a to hi gh temp erat ures or high humi dity. Do not leave the c amera in a ve hicle, as the temp erature ca n get very high. • Do not subj ect the cam era to s trong vibr ations, sh ocks, or pressure. U se a cushio n to protect the cam era from vi brations of mot orcycles, automobile s, or ship s.
