2 Warning • Do not at tem pt to take the camera apart or modify t he cam era. High voltages are present within the camera, and there is a danger of electr ic shock if the camera is taken apart.
3 Warning • Always use the power adapt er or AC adapter exclusively developed f or this camera, with the s pecified power and v oltage. Using a power adapter or AC adapter not exclusiv e to this camer a, or using the exclusive power adapter or AC adapter with an unspecified power or voltage can cause a f ire, electric shock, or camera breakdown.
4 Warning • Be sure to store the battery out of the reach of sm all children. Placing it in their mouths may c ause an electric shock. • If any leakage from the bat tery should c ome in contact with your eyes, it may cause a loss of sight. Flush your eyes with clean water and get medical attention immediately.
5 • When traveling, take the Worldwide Service Network listing t h at is included in the package. This w ill be useful if y ou experience problems abroad. • When the camera ha s not been us ed for a long time, confirm that it is still working properly, particularly prior to t aking important pict ures (such as at a wedding or when traveling).
6 • If the camera is subjected to rapid temperature changes, condensat ion may form on the inside and outside of the camera. Therefore put the camera in a bag or plastic bag and take it out when the di fference in temperature has subs ided. • Avoid contact with garbage, mud, sand, dust, water, toxic gases , or salt.
7 • The SD Memo ry Ca rd is e quipped with a write-protect switch. Setting the s witch to LOCK prevents ne w data fro m being rec orded o n the card , the st ored dat a from being de leted, and the card from being form atted by th e camer a or c omput er.
8 Regarding Waterproof, Dustpro of, and Shockproof Design • This cam era is provided with a waterproof/dustproof design complying with JIS waterproof grade 8 and JIS dustpro of grade 6 (equivalent to IP68). • The c amera satisf ies the PENTA X drop test (2 .
9 • Avoid opening the battery co ver when near t he waterside or with wet hands. When changing the battery or the SD Memory Card, avoid places where the camera is likely to get wet or dirty, and make sure that the camera and your hands are completely dry.
10 • Do not open the battery cover if the camera is wet. Wipe off any water with a clean lint-free cloth. • The inside surface of the cover may get wet when it is opened. Wipe off any water that is on the cover. • Wiping off the camera while ther e is sand or dust on it may scratch the surface of the camer a.

61 3 Taking Pict ures Taking Still P ictur es This camer a has various functions and shooting modes that support a wide array of scenes and subjects. This s ection expl ains shooting wit h the default settings when shipped. 1 Press the pow er button. The camera turns on and is read y to take still pictures.

If the c amera detects that the subject’s e yes are closed while F ace Detection (p.100) is activated, the message [Closed eyes have been detected] appears for 3 seconds (Blink Detection).

71 3 Taking Pict ures In 9 (Green) mode, y ou can enjoy easy picture-taking with standard settings, regardless of the settings made from the [ A Rec. Mode] menu. The 9 mode settings are as shown below. 1 Press the Green button in A mode. The camera switc hes to 9 mode.

The current interval shot sett ings appear for ap proximately 1 minute .

78 3 Taking Pict ures Press the shutt er release button on ce to automatically ad just the exposure and take three pictures in succe ssion. After taking the pictur es, you can select t he best shot fro m them. The shooting order is as fo llows: th e proper exposure → –1.
79 3 Taking Pict ures In X (Digital Wide) mode, you can stitch two vertical images captured with this camera into a single frame up to approx. 19 mm coverage (35 mm film equivalent). 1 Use the four-way controller ( 2345 ) to sel ect X (Digital Wide) from the Capture Mode Pale tte.

83 3 Taking Pict ures Setting the Shooting F unctions Settings for shooting are mostly set from the [ A Rec. Mode] menu. Refer to explanations for each function on how to make these settings. 1 Press the 3 button in Still Picture Capture Mode. The [ A Rec.

85 3 Taking Pict ures 2 Press the 4 button. The setti ng is saved and the camera returns to cap ture mode. About the red-eye phenomenon Taking pictur es using the fla sh may cause the subj ect’s eyes to ap pear red in the resulti ng picture. This ph enomenon occurs when the light fro m the fla sh is reflecte d in the subject’s eyes.
86 3 Taking Pict ures 1 Press the four-way controller ( 5 ) in A mode . The [Focus Mode] scre en appears. The focus mode changes each ti me the button is pressed. You can also change the setti ng using the f our-way cont roller ( 23 ). 2 Press the 4 button.
87 3 Taking Pict ures 5 Press the 4 button. The focus is lo cked and the camera re turns to captur e mode. After the focu s is locked, you can p ress the f our-way cont roller ( 5 ) again to display the indicator and read just the focus. You can change the autofoc us area (Focusing Area).
88 3 Taking Pict ures When [Auto Macro] is set to O (On), the focus is adjust ed to the macr o range (distance to the subjec t is 10 cm to 50 cm) as necessary, even if the focus m ode is set to = (Standard).

90 3 Taking Pict ures You can choose t he number of recorded pixels f or still pictures. The larger the num ber of recorded pixels , the clearer the details will appear when you print your picture.
