3 INST ALLA TION NOTE: If y ou ar e connecting only Line 1 or only Line 2, use two batteries, as indicated on the bottom of the phone. If y ou ar e connecting both lines, use f our batteries. 2 Set the dial mode. This telephone will wor k with touch tone or dial pulse (rotary) ser vice.
4 T able/Desk Installation Follow Steps 1 and 2 above. 3 Connect the long line cord(s) to the telephone. • If you have a two-line wall jack , use only the line cord with the clear modular plugs on eac h end. Plug one end into the jack labeled L1 OR L1/L2 on the bottom of the telephone.
5 5 Connect the handset to the telephone. Plug the coiled cord into the handset jac k on the side of the phone. Plug the other end of the coiled cord into the handset. 6 Check for dial tone. Lift the handset, press L on the base, and listen for a dial tone.
6 4 Connect the line cord(s) to your modular wall jack(s) and mount the telephone on the wall jack. • If you have a two-line jack , plug the free end of the short line cord into a modular wall jac k. Mak e sure the cord snaps f irmly into place. Place the phone on the wall jack mounting studs and pull down until it is held securel y .

8 Making a Call Press L or l and lift the handset. Y ou can dial your call manually or use the Memor y Dialing feature (see “Dialing Memor y Numbers” in the TELEPHONE MEMOR Y section of this manual). Ans w ering a Call Each line has a differ ent ringer tone to signal an incoming call.
9 Switching Betw een Lines During a Call During a call on one line, you can make or ans wer a call on the other line by pressing H . Y ou can use the H and line buttons ( L and l ) to switc h back and f orth between calls as often as necessar y . For example, if you’ re using Line 1 and Line 2 rings: 1 Press H to hold Line 1.
10 T o disconnect one party from a conference call and keep the other on the line, press the line button of the call you want to continue. NOTE: If y ou leav e the F button do wn after a confer ence call, then dial another number , y our call might be completed, but y ou might hear a busy signal from the other line.
11 This telephone can store up to 12 telephone numbers (up to 21 digits each). Directory Car d Remove the plastic co ver fr om the director y card on the base. Wr ite your telephone numbers in the spaces provided, and write the telephone number s (or names) that you w ant to store in eac h memor y location.
12 TELEPHONE MEMOR Y Dialing Long Numbers There are two w ays to dial telephone n umbers that are too long to fit into a memor y location. Using T wo Memory Locations Y ou can store a number more than 21 digits long by dividing it and storing it in two memory locations.
13 If this telephone does not wor k properly , tr y the following sugg estions before seeking repair assistance. If the telephone still does not work, call 1 800 222–3111. No Dial T one • Make sure all plugs are connected pr operly . Check the line cord connections at the modular jack and at the telephone.
14 IN C ASE OF DIFFICUL TY Prob lems with Line Status Lights • Make sure all plugs are connected pr operly . Inspect the line cord connections at the modular jack and at the telephone. Also inspect the coiled handset cord connections at both ends. • T r y replacing old batteries.
