1 Intr oduction This A T&T CL2939 big button big display t elephone has a large til t display for easy viewing and extr a large butt ons for easy viewing and dialing. This CL2939 telephone r equires four alkaline AA bat teries (purchased separatel y).

DELETED All the entries stored in the call hist ory have been deleted. -OR- The last number dialed is deleted. DIRECTOR Y EMPTY There are no t elephone numbers stored in the directory .

6 Getting started Grasp and squeeze as the arr ows indicate to open the hinged br acket. 1. Bat tery inst allation (pur chased separat ely) Befor e using the telephone, you should install f our good AA alkaline batteries (not included) to pr ovide memory backup and enable the use of some featur es.
7 Getting started Y ou can use this telephone without bat teries installed. If you do so, the telephone works only t o make and answer calls with the handset, adjust volume (ringer or handset volume) or use the last number redial f eature. NOTES: Use dis pos abl e al kal ine AA bat te ries on ly .

9 Getting started Install ation options The telephone base comes with the br acket mounted f or tabletop use. If you want to mount your t elephone on a wall, use the mounting brack et to connect with a standar d dual-stud telephone wall mounting plate.
10 Getting started Install ation options Plug one end of the telephone line cor d into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the telephone base. R oute the telephone line cor d through the slot. Bundle the telephone line c ord and secure it with a twist tie.
11 Getting started Install ation options W all-mount to t ablet op installation T o change the telephone base fr om the wall-mount position to tablet op position, follow the steps bel ow. Slide the telephone base upwar ds, then pull the telephone base away fr om the wall and remov e the studs.
12 Getting started Install ation options Lift and rotat e the bracket and l ock it into tabletop position as indicat ed below . 4. Plug one end of the telephone line cor d into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the telephone base. Plug the other end of the tel ephone line cord into a telephone wall jack.
13 V olume c ontr ol Ringer volume Use the RINGER VOL switch on the right side of the telephone base t o set the ringer volume or turn the ringer off. Adjust the RINGER VOL switch t o set the ringer volume to off , low, middl e or high. When set to off, the screen shows .

21 T elephone operation Options while on calls Audio assist™ Some voices will sound louder and clear er if you press A UDIO ASSIS T while you ar e on a call using the handset. Press A UDIO ASSIS T again to turn the featur e off. This featur e automatically turns off when you hang up.
22 T elephone operation Options while on calls Flash/call waiting If you subscribe to call waiting service with y our telephone service pr ovider , you hear a beep if someone calls you while you ar e already on a call. Press FLASH to put y our current call on hold and take the new call.

Each two-touch memory location can stor e a telephone number with up to 24 digit s.

41 Appendix Make sur e to set the DIAL MODE to the corr ect setting (pulse dialing or tone dialing) f or the service in your ar ea (see Feat ure summary on page 15). If any of your other telephones ar e having the same problem, the pr oblem is in the wiring or telephone service.
42 Appendix My calls fade out or cut in and out when I am using the telephone. If you are using the handset when this pr oblem occurs, try unplugging the coiled handset cord and firml y plugging it in the handset and telephone base again. If you are using the speak erphone when this problem oc curs, eliminate any back ground noise.
43 Appendix Operation during a power failure. This telephone operat es during a power failure if a telephone line cord is installed between the telephone wall jack and the t elephone base. Y ou are abl e to answer calls with the handset, and dial calls using the dial pad keys and the REDIAL key .
44 Appendix If you select NEW CALL FIRS T in CALL LIST ORDER , the telephone first shows the new (unreviewed) caller ID entries then entries starting with the most rec ent call in the call history .
