Getting started 5 Bat t ery installation & char ging Install the batt ery as shown below . After installing the bat tery , you can make and r eceive short calls. Place the handset in the telephone base or char ger when not in use. For optimal performance, char ge the handset battery for at least 16 hours befor e use.
Getting started 6 Bat t ery installation & char ging Step 1 Plug the battery secur ely into the connector inside the handset battery c ompartment, matching the color-coded label. Insert the supplied battery with the label THIS SIDE UP facing up as indicated.
7 Adding and r egist ering handsets Befor e using a new CL80109 handset, you must regist er it with the A T&T CL81109/CL81209/CL81309/CL82109/CL82209/CL82309/ CL82359/CL82409/CL82509/CL82609/CL82659/CL82859/ CL84109/CL84209/CL84309 telephone syst em (purchased separatel y), the telephone syst em can accommodate up to 12 handsets.
8 Adding the handset to your telephone base Adding and r egist ering handsets The handsets that come with the CL82609/CL82659 ar e HANDSET 1 , HANDSET 2 , HANDSET 3 , HANDSET 4 , HANDSET 5 and HANDSET 6 .
9 Adding and r egist ering handsets The A T&T CL80109 needs to synchronize with the tel ephone base befor e use. When new, all e xpansion handsets show NO T REGIS TERED on the screen. If the handset does not have enough power to proceed with the r egistration, you need to charge the new handset for about five minutes.
10 Adding the handset to your telephone base De-r egist ering a handset Y ou can de-register handsets. Y ou may need to de-r egister your handsets if: Y ou have twelve regist ered handsets and need t o replac e a handset. -OR- Y ou wish to change the designated handset number of your register ed handsets.
11 T r oubleshooting If you have difficulty with y our phone, please try the suggestions below . For Customer Servic e, visit our website at www .tel ephones.at t.com or call 1 (800) 222-3111 . In Canada, dial 1 (866) 288-4268 . Appendix A The handset registration is unsuccessful.
12 Appendix A T r oubleshooting I cannot get a dial tone. First try all the suggestions above. Move the cor dless handset closer to the telephone base. Y ou might have moved out of range. • • Make sur e the power cord is securely plugged in. Make sur e you plug the battery connector securely int o the cordless handset.
13 Appendix A I cannot dial out. T r oubleshooting My cordl ess handset isn’t performing normally . First try all the suggestions above. Make sur e you have a dial tone befor e dialing. The cordl ess handset might tak e a second or two to find the t elephone base and produce a dial t one.
14 Appendix A T r oubleshooting C ONNECTING... appears on my cordl ess handset. Ensure you plug the t elephone base in properly and the power is on. Place the cor dless handset in the telephone base for one minute t o allow the cor dless handset and base to synchr onize.
15 Appendix A The batteries does not hold a charge. I get noise, static, or weak signals even when I’m near the telephone base. If you subscribe to high-speed Internet service (digital subscriber line - DSL) thr ough your telephone lines, you must inst all a DSL filter between the t elephone base and the telephone wall jack.
16 Appendix A T r oubleshooting I experience poor sound quality when using the speakerphone. For incr eased sound quality while using the speakerphone, plac e the handset on a flat surface with the dial pad f acing up. • I hear other calls while using my phone.
17 Appendix A My cordl ess handset does not ring when I receiv e a call. T r oubleshooting Make sur e that the ringer is not off. 18 Appendix A T r oubleshooting Other electronic pr oducts can cause interfer ence with your cordless phone. T ry installing your phone as far aw ay from the following electr onic devices as possible: television sets, V CRs, or other cordl ess telephones.
19 Appendix A The charge light is off. Make sur e you plug the power and line cords in c orrectly and secur ely. Unplug the electrical power . Wait for 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute for the cor dless handset and telephone base to r eset.
20 Appendix A If the telephone does not seem to be responding normally , try putting the cor dless handset in the telephone base or char ger . If it does not seem to respond, do the f ollowing (in the order list ed): Disconnect the power to the tel ephone base.
21 Maint enance T aking care of your tel ephone Y our cordless telephone contains sophisticat ed electronic parts, so y ou must treat it with care. Avoid r ough treatment. Place the handset down gently . Save the original packing materials to pr otect your telephone if you ever need to ship it.
