6 Bat t ery install ation and char ging Install the batt ery as shown on page 7. Once you have install ed the battery , the screen indicates the bat tery status (see tabl e below). If necessary , place the handset in the telephone base or charger to char ge the battery .
Bat t ery install ation and char ging Getting st arted 7 Step 1 Plug the battery connector secur ely into the sock et inside the handset battery compartment, matching the color-coded label. Insert the supplied battery with the label THIS SIDE UP facing up as indicated.
Adding and r egist ering handsets Befor e using a new CL80100 handset, you must regist er it with the A T&T CL81100/CL81200/CL81300/CL82100/CL82200/CL82250/ CL82300/CL82350/CL82400/CL82500/CL82550/CL84100/ CL84200/CL84300 telephone syst em (purchased separ ately), the telephone syst em can accommodate up to 12 handsets.
Adding and r egist ering handsets The handset needs to r egister with the telephone base be fore use. Y ou must register each handset separat ely . When first purchased, all e xpansion handsets show Out of range OR No pwr a t base on the screen.
Der egist ering a handset Y ou can deregister handsets. Y ou may need to der egister your handsets if: Y ou have 12 register ed handsets and need to replace a handset. -OR- Y ou wish to change the designated handset number of your register ed handsets.
T r oubleshooting If you have difficulty with y our phone, please try the suggestions below . For Customer Servic e, visit our website at www .tel ephones.at t.com or call 1 (800) 222-3111 . In Canada, dial 1 (866) 288-4268 . The handset r egistr ation is unsucc essful.
T r oubleshooting Appendix 12 If the previous suggestions do not work, disconnect the telephone base fr om the telephone jack and connect t o a different phone. If ther e is no dial tone on that phone either , the problem is in y our wiring or local service.

I get noise, sta tic, or weak signals even when I’m near the tel ephone base. If you subscribe to high-speed Internet servic e (digital subscriber line - DSL) through your t elephone lines, you must install a DSL filter between the t elephone base and the telephone wall jack.
My cor dless handset does not ring when I r eceive a call. Make sur e that the ringer is not off. Refer t o Ringer volume in the user’s manual provided with y our CL81100/CL81200/ CL81300/CL82100/CL82200/CL82300/CL82350/CL82400/ CL82500/CL84100/CL84200/CL84300 telephone.
T r oubleshooting Appendix My calls cut in and out while I’m using my c ordless handset. Other electronic pr oducts can cause interference with y our cordl ess phone. Try inst alling your phone as far awa y from the following electr onic devices as possible: television sets, VCRs, or other cordl ess telephones.

T r oubleshooting Appendix The char ge light is off or blinking. Make sur e you plug the power and line cords in correctl y and securely . Unplug the electrical power . Wait for 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute f or the cordl ess handset and telephone base to r eset.
Maint enance T aking care of y our telephone Y our cordless tel ephone contains sophisticated el ectronic parts, so you must treat it with car e. Avoid r ough treatment. Place the handset down gently . Save the original packing materials t o protect your telephone if you ever need to ship it.
