Depending on your service subscription, you ma y see the caller’ s number , or the caller’ s name and number . This product can provide inf ormation only if both you and the caller ar e in areas offering caller ID service , and if both telephone companies use compatible equipment.

Befor e y ou begin This cordless telephone operates within the maximum pow er allow ed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Even so , this handset and telephone base can communicate ov er o.
3 Batter y & charger installation After installation, place the handset in the handset charger or the telephone base and allow the battery to charge for at least 16 hours befor e use . Y ou can keep the battery charged by returning the handset to the handset charger or the telephone base after each use.
Adding ne w handsets 4 HANDSET 2 Befor e using a new E560-2/E560-5 handset, you must r egister it with the E5640/E5643B/E5655 telephone base. During registration, you must enter the 15-digit ID number of the telephone base. The base ID of the E5640/E5643B is located on the bottom of the telephone base.
Adding ne w handsets T o add a new handset: • Mak e sure the handset battery is properly installed and fully charged. • If the batter y in the handset is not sufficientl y charged, the screen on the handset will sho w If this happens, return the handset to the handset charger until the screen sho ws • Enter the 15-digit base ID number .
Adding ne w handsets • If the number is not enter ed correctly , the screen will be blank for a fe w seconds and will be displa yed again until a valid base ID has been enter ed. • After entering the code, press SELECT/ MENU to accept the code to complete the registration pr ocess.
Replacing a handset If you ar e replacing a handset on a system which alr eady has the maximum number of handsets r egistered (4), or wish to change the assigned handset number of y our register ed handsets, you must first de-r egister all handsets, then re-register them again.
Replacing a handset T o de-register all handsets (E5655 ONL Y) • Press * 8 8 3 2 4 4 # on the dial pad of the telephone base. • Press SELECT/MENU on the telephone base.
Y ou can re-r egister handsets after de-registering them fr om the telephone base. Y o u can also re-register handsets to a ne w telephone base if they ha v e been replaced fo r a ny r eason. T o re-r egister a handset: • Mak e sure the handset battery is properly installed and charged.
Re-r egistering a handset T o re-r egister a handset to a new telephone base • Mak e sure the handset battery is properly installed and charged. • Unplug the old telephone base. The handset will display SEARCHING.... • Install the new telephone base by pl ugging it into an electrical outlet and telephone jack.
Belt clip & optional headset Install belt clip as shown below if desir ed. For hands-fr ee telephone conv ersations, use any industr y standar d 2.5 mm headset (pur chased separately). For best results, use an A T&T 2.5 mm headset. 11 Snap belt clip into notches on side of handset.

In Canada, call 1 (866) 288-4268. My telephone does not work at all • Make sure the battery is installed and charged correctly .
The battery does not charge in the handset or the handset battery does not accept charge • Make sure the handset is placed in the charger correctly .
There is no dial tone • First, try all the above suggestions. • Move the cordless handset closer to the telephone base. It might be out of range. • The telephone line cord might be malfunctioning. T ry installing a new telephone line cord. • Disconnect the telephone base from the telephone jack and connect a differ ent telephone.
Pr oblem Suggestion T r oubleshooting I cannot dial out • Make sure there is a dial tone befor e dialing. It is normal if the cordless handset takes a second or two to synchronize with the telephone base before pr oducing a dial tone. W ait an extra second before dialing.
Pr oblem Suggestion T r oubleshooting There is noise or interference during a telephone conversation • The handset may be out of range. Move it closer to the telephone base. • Appliances or other cordless telephones plugged into the same circuit as the telephone base can cause interference.
Pr oblem Suggestion T r oubleshooting • Make sure the answering system is on. • If T oll Saver is activated, the number of rings changes to two when there ar e new messages waiting. • If the memory is full or if the answering system is off, the system will answer after ten rings.
Pr oblem Suggestion T r oubleshooting The answering system does not recor d message • Make sure the answering system is turned on. When the answering system is on, the red light on the ANSWER ON/OFF key is lit. • Make sur e the Announcement only feature is of f.
Pr oblem Suggestion T r oubleshooting Day of the week is incorrect on the answering system after the clock is reset by the caller ID function • Reset the year when setting the clock on the answering system. CL flashes in message window • Reset the clock on the answering system.
