6 Getting Started Befor e y ou begin About caller identification (CID) The Caller ID with Call W aiting featur es in this telephone let you see who’ s calling before y ou answ er the phone, even when you’ re on another call. These fea- tures r equir e services provided by your local telephone compan y .
7 Getting Started T elephone base installation Install the telephone base as shown below . Choose a central location within the home, a w a y from any electr onic equipment and appliances such as person- al computers, computer routers, tele vision sets, micro wa v e ov ens, and refrig - erators.
8 Getting Started Batter y installation & charging After installation, place the handset in the telephone base and allow the bat- ter y to charge for sixteen hours bef ore use. Y ou can keep battery charged by returning the handset to the telephone base after each use.
9 Getting Started W all mounting The telephone base can be installed on any standar d telephone outlet as shown below . Choose a central location within the home, awa y from an y elec- tronic equipment such as personal computers, computer r outers, tele vision sets or micro wa v e ov ens.
10 Getting Started Belt clip & optional headset Install belt clip as shown below if desir ed. FLASH CANCEL Snap the belt clip into the notches on the side of the handset. Rotate and pull to remove. Plug the 2.5 mm head- set into the jack on the side of the handset (beneath the small rub- ber cap).
11 T elephone Setup Handset scr een imag es The Pictures and Animations settings allow you to select an image or design as wallpaper for the backgro und of the handset screen. These images can also be programmed f or indi- vidual callers in the directory so that different images will show when differ ent callers phone (see page 31).
12 T elephone Setup Handset sounds Press the CENTER Na vK e y to enter the main menu, and press the UP Na vK ey three times to reach the Sounds menu item, then pr ess the CENTER Na vK ey to start the menu. After selecting any option, pr ess the CENTER Na vK ey or the softke y SET to confirm y our choice.
13 T elephone Setup Handset sounds Start recording the ne w ringer after the tone. When finished recor ding, press the softk ey STOP . Press the softk ey PLA Y to listen to the recorded ringer . Then pr ess the softk ey SA VE to enter the name of this recor ding using the table on page 30.
14 T elephone Setup Handset messag es This allows y ou to listen to messages on the answ ering system using the cordless handset. When there ar e ne w messages on the answ er - ing system, New Message will be displa yed on the handset screen, and the status light at the top left corner of the handset will begin to flash.
15 T elephone Setup Handset settings Press the CENTER Na vK e y to enter the main menu, then press the UP Na vK ey four times to reach the Settings men u item. Press the CENTER Na vK ey to star t the menu. After selecting any option belo w , press the CENTER Na vK ey to confirm your choice.
16 T elephone Setup Handset settings Sho w handset name This menu allows y ou to decide whether the handset name should be shown on the scr een of the handset. From the idle mode, press the CENTER Na vK ey to enter the main menu. Press the DOWN Na vK e y four times to reach the SETTINGS menu.
17 T elephone Setup Handset settings Contrast At this menu, you can adjust scr een contrast to one of eight lev els to suit differ ent lighting condi- tions. Press the CENTER Na vK ey to activate the menu fr om the idle scr een. Press the UP Na vK e y four times to reach the Settings screen menu and pr ess the CENTER Na vK ey to activate it.
18 T elephone Setup Handset settings Default settings This menu allows y ou to r estore the factory-set default Settings for all menu settings on the cor d- less handset. It will NO T clear the directory , call log, handset name , or messages. • Enter the main menu by pr essing the CENTER Na vK ey .

20 T elephone Setup BASE SETTINGS Keypad Tone CID MENU DIR BASE SETTINGS Ringer Melody CID MENU DIR Base settings • Press SELECT/ MENU and a volume indication with four le vels a ppears. Adjust the volume by pressing V CID to decrease or ^ DIR to incr ease the volume or /VOLUME to increase or de- crease the v olume.

26 T elephone Operation Basic base operation Mute Press MUTE to silence the microphone and the screen will sho w Microphone Muted . The icon MUTE will also be shown while the call is muted. Y ou will be able to hear , but your caller will not be able to hear you until y ou pr ess MUTE again to resume the con v ersation.
27 T elephone Operation FLASH CANCEL VOLUME FLASH Caution: The ringer silencing func- tion automatically cancels when this call terminates. Options while on calls V olume control Press /VOLUME on the handset or the telephone base to adjust the listening volume.
28 T elephone Operation Inter com calls Intercom calls The intercom f eatur e allows con versation between the handset and the telephone base, or between handsets if ad ditional handsets are r egis- tered f or use with the system. From the idle mode, press INTERCOM on the tele- phone base to initiate an intercom call.
FLASH CANCEL Handset directory Memor y capacity There ar e separate dir ectories in the handset and the base. The director y in the handset can stor e up to one hundred entries. Each entry can store a number up to thirty-two digits, and a name up to sixteen alphanumeric characters (including spaces).

Y ou can re view the call log to find out who has called, return the call by pr essing / PHONE /FLASH , or cop y the caller’ s name and number into your directory .

Base call log & redial Call log There ar e separate call logs in the handset and the telephone base. The call log in the telephone base can store up to 50 entries, with each entry containing a name up to 16 alphanumeric charac- ters and a number up to 16 digits.

FLASH CANCEL Answering system operation Messag e capacity The answ ering system can recor d up to 99 messages, depending on how long each message is. Individual messages can be up to 4 minutes long, but the total maximum recor ding time is 15 minutes.

66 Appendix Replacing a handset If you ar e r eplacing a handset on a system that has the maximum n umber of register ed handsets (eight) or wish to change the assigned handset number of your r egister ed handsets, you m ust first de-register the handsets, and then r e- register all handsets again.

70 Appendix The tele- phone does not ring when there is an incoming call. • Make sure the ringer is on. (See page 12 for handset and page 19 for telephone base). • Make sure the telephone line cor d and power adapter are plugged in properly (see page 7).
71 Appendix There is noise or interference during a tele- phone conver - sation. My calls fade out or cut in and out when I am using the cordless hand- set.
72 Appendix I hear noise in the cord- less handset, and none of the keys or buttons work. • Make sure the telephone line cor d is plugged in securely . I hear other calls when using the telephone. • Disconnect the telephone base from the telephone jack.
