1 A TEN UC-1284 Printer Cable is a bridge that links the traditional IEEE 1284 parallel i n t e r f a c e t o t h e U n i v e r s a l S e r i a l B u s ( U S B ) i n t e r f a c e . I t i s e a s y t o i n s t a l l a n d co m pa t ibl e w it h m o s t pri n t er s f r om m aj or m a nu fa c tu r er s.

4 Hardware and OS Requirements P ersonal Computer with 486 (or higher) processor with : • 16 Mbytes of RAM • USB connector One of the two following operating systems: • Windows 98 • Wi n dow s 9 5 v er si on 4. 00 .9 5 0b with t he USB sup pl eme nt ( QFE 12 1 4), als o known as OSR2.
5 INST ALLATION & OPERA TION 1. Conn ect t he ATEN UC- 1284 Printe r Ca ble to a pri nter or oth er I EEE S tanda rd 1284 peripheral that is turned on . 2. Plug the USB end of the ATEN UC-1284 Printer Cable into the USB HUB or PC’s USB port . A new Hardware Found box will appear stating that an Unknown Device has been found .
At this point , the files should automatically be copied from the disk ette . The installation process is now complete . (Note: If a Plug & Play printer is being used, then a Plug & Play prompt may appear at this point to install the printer drivers .
7 4. Use th e Wiz a r d t o com p let e the insta llati on o f the Unknown Device , i . e ., the A TEN UC-1284 Printer Cable: • Insert the disk ette into the floppy disk drive . • Click on the Next button in the Update Device Driver Wizard box. Windows 95 OSR2.
8 5. T o verify that the ATEN UC-1284 Printer Cable has been correctly installed, right click on My Computer, and then left click on Properties to access the System P roperties box . 6. Choose the Device Manager tab in this box. The ATEN UC-1284 Printer Cable should appear in the list under Computer .

7 . Now do u ble cl i ck o n A TEN U C- 1284 Printer Ca bl e ( UC1284USBx). If the i n sta l l ation was su ccessful, a n ATEN UC-128 4 Printer Ca ble Properti es box wi ll appear and the device status will state that the device is working properly .
11 8. If the installation was not successful, use the UCREMOVE.EXE file on the diskette to first uninstall the software , then return to step 2 above. 9. If the installation was successful and a printer was attached to the ATEN UC- 1284 Printer Cable in step 1, a test page can now be printed: • Click on Start/Settings/Printers .
