User Manual UN-201 Read this guide thoroughly and follow the installation and operation procedures carefully in order to prevent any damage to the units and/or any devices that connect to them. Overview The UN-201 USB 2.0 Data-Link Cable represents an innovative breakthrough in peer group networking. Peer-to-peer is often the best choice in home or small office network configurations, since computers can share their resources and peripherals without the use of a dedicated server.

Driver Installation Before you begin the USB 2.0 Data-Link Cable installation, please note the following: M Do not plug the USB 2.0 Data-Link Cable into the computer before installing the driver. The driver must be installed first . M Before you can install the USB 2.
SuperLink Driver Installation The SuperLink driver provides PC-to-PC file transfers between two computers. To install the SuperLink driver: 1. Unzip the driver file archive located on the driver disk that came with this package into a temporary directory on your system.
Transferring Files The installation program puts a SuperLink icon on the desktop. To initiate a file transfer, Click the SuperLink icon on each computer. A window with two panels, similar to the one below, appears: The Local computer’s drives and directories appear in the top panel; the Remote computer’s appear in the bottom panel.
1. Basic Peer Networking: Basic peer networking allows the members of the Data-Link network to share resources among themselves. To set up your peer network, do the following: 1. Unzip the driver file archive located on the driver disk that came with this package into a temporary directory on your system.
5. When prompted, click on Finish to complete the installat ion. When the driver installation process has completed, the installation program directs you to reboot the computer. Remove the driver disk from the drive and restart Windows. 6. Repeat the above for each computer you want to install on the peer network.
Sharing Resources: To share resources, do the following: 1. Open Windows Explorer 2. Navigate to the drive, folder, file, or peripheral (printer, scanner, etc.), that you want to share; Right Click on it ; select Sharing . 3. Select Shared As , and key in the Shared Name that the other computers will use to access it.
2. Peer Networking plus Bridging to an Ethern et LAN: Peer networking plus bridging to an Ethernet LAN gives the members of the Data-Link network access all the services made available to the Ethernet LAN - such as file and print, company Intranet, and Internet.
To set up the Bridge computer: 1. Power up the computer you have chosen to serve as the Bridge, and log onto the Ethernet LAN. 2. Install the Virtual Network driver as described under Basic Peer Networking (p. 6, above), except that if asked whet her you want to install the Network Bridge, Click on Yes .
M Win 2000: 1. Open the Control Panel: My Computer > Control Panel 2. Open Network and Dial-up Connections 3. Right click on Local Area Connection ; select Properties 4. Select the Sharing tab; check Enable Internet Connection Sharing for this connection ; Click OK .
Setup Complete: Once the setup of the Bridge computer has been completed, and it is logged into the Ethernet LAN, members of the Data-Link Workgroup can: M See all the computers on both networks (the Data-Link network and the Ethernet LAN), in the Network Neighborhood folder.
