Page 1 Introduction The Ther moCheck i s a porta ble, han dhel d temper atur e met er and t emperat ure measure men t storage de vice that facilitates the validation of qua lity control spec ifications for temperat ures of products at v arious st ag es of productio n and storage.
Page 2 To use the Ther moCheck you will need to in stall the ThermoCheck software (please re fer to Chapter 2, Installing th e Software for m ore info rmation ab out installing th e sof tware) ont o a compute r so that a ThermoC heck can b e configur ed.
Page 3 Getting S t arted To use the ThermoCh eck to record t empera tur e reading s, the unit will need a datab ase con figured , linking products, proc ess/locati on and pr oduct speci ficatio ns. You can config ure a data base in the unit with the user s oftware.

The de fault is the first serial co mmunications por t, COM1.

Page 9 Batter y Replacement Your Ther moCheck r eq uires tw o (2) AA b atteries to oper ate. You can us e either alkaline or re- chargeabl e (for ex amp le, NiC d or Ni MH) batter ies, how ever please r ememb er that y ou mu st NEVER attempt to charg e alkali ne batteri es.
Page 10 Setting Up a Dat abase In order to use th e ThermoCh eck, y ou need to create a pr oduct dat abase. D atabases l ink indiv idual products w ith the pr ocesses/locatio ns of thei r produc tion at w hich y ou may want to mo nitor temperat ure.
Page 11 The database w indo w has panel button s for pr oducts, proc esses/loc ations, user s, and the ThermoCheck’s settin gs. When you click on each on e of thes e panel butto ns, you w ill be able to change the setti ngs for that categ ory i n the panel that is rev ealed.
Page 12 All product n ames must star t wi th a capital letter and the so ftware w ill ensure that e ach product d oes start w ith a capital letter . Product names ca n not be bla nk (empty ) and there fore the softw are w ill ensure tha t no pro ducts ar e created w ithout a v alid nam e.

Page 14 You can c hange a product or process /locatio n name by: • typing the new name dir ectly i nto the appro priate field o n the l eft, • selecting the current name , clicki ng on it w ith the mo use, and ty ping the new name, • or pressing [F2] w hen a pr oduct or process /locati on is s elected, and ty ping the new na me.
Page 15 Database Orient ation In addition to ent erin g pr oduct and process/l ocation detail s, the software all ows y ou to specify whether the data base is to be pr imar ily oriented ar oun d product s, or pr ocesses/l ocati ons.
Page 16 Database Item Order The softw are all ows you to: • manually de fine the or der o f each o f the it ems in th e data base, or • have the datab ase ite ms automa ticall y sorted i n alpha betical order . These optio ns are contr olled v ia the Manual Order ch eckbox in the Products and Processes/Locat ions panel s.

Page 19 Templates W hen y ou have set up a database, y ou can al so save it to a Template file, for future use. To do this, select Save or Save A s from the Fil e men u. Type i n th e name of the file y ou w ant to sav e the template data base as, and click Sav e.

Page 27 User Options W hen a user is selected, their password and PIN code are show n in the panel next to the user list . For security and pr ivacy r easons, PIN codes and passwor ds are display ed as a seri es o f asterisks. The PIN code identi fies th e user c urr ently o perating the ThermoC heck.

Page 29 Customising the ThermoCheck Customising With the So ftw are If you click the Settings button in the dat abase w indow , the configuration setti ngs panel will become visi ble. Any changes y ou make to these sett ings will not take effect until the dat abase i s uploaded t o the ThermoCheck.

Page 31 Date and Time You can adjus t the Ther moCheck’s i nternal ti me clock w ith the opti ons in this box . If you cl ick Match computer date and time , the unit’s time clock will be set to match y our PC’s interna l clock. Not e that this w ill only occur if the settings are up loaded to t he unit (with the Set Data base command).

Page 33 Using the ThermoCheck Using the Th ermoCheck for the First Time If your Th ermoCheck is turned off, y ou can tur n it on by pressi ng any key on the keypad, or by attaching exter nal power, or by connecti ng a comp uter. When a Therm oCheck is pow ered up , the battery voltage, along with the firmware versi on, will be shown on the display.

Page 35 Once you have made a selection of a product and a proce ss/location, the screen will display: • the currently selected product an d proc ess/locati on, • the current dat e and ti me, • the current re ading o f the t emper ature pr obe, • and, if a user li st is inst alled in the uni t, th e current user ’s n ame.
Page 36 Logging On and Loggin g Off If there is a user list i nstalled in the unit , you w ill need to log on to identi fy y ourself befor e a r eading can be tak en. If no users ar e curren tly l ogged on, y ou can d o this by pressi ng the key or the key, which w ill br ing up the log -on screen.
