1. Introduction Thank you for purchasing and using ou r MFP print server . The FPS-1010M / FPS-1010MG allows your Multi- function printer (called for short: MFP) or printe r to become a shared device on the network. Unlike many print serve rs, it c an communicate with MFP and printer as if it is connecte d directly to your computer .
3. MFP Server Installation in Windows 2000/XP/Vista 3.1 Hardware Inst allation 1. Unpack the FPS-1010M / FPS-1010MG p ackage an d verify the items listed in the previous section are provided. 2. Use USB cable to connect FPS-1010M / FPS-1010MG to the MFP or printer that you want to share to your network.
3. The “MFP Server Utilitie s - InstallShiled Wizard” is displayed, click "Next". 4. Click “Next” to install the MFP Server utilit ies in the default folder or click “Change” to specify the destination folder where you woul d like to install the MFP Server utilities.
5. The system starts insta lling the MFP Server Utilities. 6. The “MFP Server Configuration” screen is disp layed. If you want to configure the MFP Server, please select “Yes, I want to conf igure the MFP Server now.” and click “Next”. Then refer to the following steps to configure your M FP server.
7. The MFP Server List will auto search the MFP Servers in the net work. Select the MFP Server you want to setup a nd click “Next” to contin ue. 8. Enter the “User Name” an d “Password” of t he MFP Server you have selected to login the MFP Server.
9. Set the “Alia s Name” and the “MFP Server Descrip tion” to the MFP Server here. Click “Next”. NOTE: You can define the location or other info rmation of the MFP Serv er for easy to find the MFP by filling “MFP Server Description”. 10.
11. The FPS-1010MG will find available wireless network automatically. You could also press the “Refresh” button to find the available wireless network manually.
13. The configurations are finished. Please click “Finish” to apply new settings. NOTE: Only FPS-1010MG shows the wireless mod e, SSID, channel and security information. 14. Select “Yes, I want to restart my computer now” and click “Finish” to complete the installation.
15. The “MFP Manager” will display on your scree n automatically t hat after you install management software finish and your com puter get into Windows XP firs t time. Choose “Yes” that enable “MFP Manager” utilit y automatically when Windows starts.
3. The following message is displayed to wa rn you that you have to follow the installation instructions in the manual of the MFP. If t he MFP is requiring you to connect the MFP t o your computer directly, please click “Connect”.
5. Before creating the connection, you have to install two kind s of drivers: the drivers for MFP Server and the drivers for MFP. Please cl ick “Next” to start the installatio n. 6. When you are installing the MFP Server Drivers, the following message will be displayed to notify you.
7. Select “Install the software automatically (Recommend ed)” to auto in stall the “MFP Server Enhanced Controller” d river , and then click “Next”. 8. The driver will be installed automatically. Click “Finish” to complete th is driver installation.
9. The following message is displayed to remi nd you that you are now installing the MFP Drivers. When you are sure that the MFP has been conn ected to MFP Server and the MFP driver CD is inserting to your CD -ROM completely, please clic k “Fini sh”.
4. Using the MFP After you have followed the inst all wizard to finish the MFP inst allation, the MFP is now connected to your computer . Y ou ca n start sharing print, scan, fax and card rea der functions provided on the MFP . NOTE: If you have finished using the MFP, please click “Di sconnect” to release the MFP from your PC.
4.2 Share Scanner Most of the MFP provides scan utility for users. Y ou can scan pi ctures or documents through the utility . In Windows XP , user can also scan from Windows XP scanning utility .
4.3 Share Card Reader If the MFP suppo rts card reader fun ction, you can read the files from the plugged ca rd reader through the MFP Server . 16.
5. MFP Server Control Manager 5.1 MFP Server List The “MFP Server Control Manager” can automatic ally find the MF P server in the network and show it in the MFP Server List. Users can se lect a MFP and click “Conne ct” to connect the MFP just like you have directly connected the MFP to your computer thro ugh USB cable.
Contact Information – When the current us er has set his “Contact Information”, you can see it here. You can co ntact with the current user for asking to disconnect the MFP. Refresh Refresh the “MFP Se rver List” immediately. Connect Let the MFP be connected to your computer.
5.3 Auto Connect List T o let the system occupy the MFP server aut omati cally when you want to print a document just like the behavior of using traditional print server , you can add the MFP into your Auto Connect List. The system will send the printin g jobs to the MFP when the MFP Server is idle and not being connected.

5.4 Option Settings 5.4.1 General Setting General Setting Run MFP Manager when Windows starts Execute the “MFP Server C ontrol Mana ger” when Windows starts every time.
5.4.2 Search for MFP Server If there is an MFP Server is not in the netwo rk as your computer , you can enter the IP Address of the MFP Server to do the remote search. The MFP Server i n the “Remote MFP Server List” will be added to the “MFP Server List” for you to configure.
6. Server Management 6.1 Introduction This chapter introduces MFP Server ’s system confi guration utility in Windows environment. This utility provides the most complete m anagement and configuration functions on the MFP Server side.
Refresh: Refresh the MFP Server ’s st atus by pressing the “Refresh” button. Reboot: Rest a rt the MFP Server by pressing the “Reboot” b utton.
6.3 Setup Click “Setup” icon on the tool bar , the setup items of the current selected MFP Server will be showed on the right side of the window . Double click one of the icons to set up the selected MFP Server . A screen will pop up to verify “User Name” and “Pa ssword” of the MFP Server .
6.3.1 General Configuration Double Click “General” i con and the Gener al configuration window will pop-up. Y ou can see basic MFP Server informat ion in this page. Y ou also can configure the “Se rver Name”, “User Name” and “Password” here.
6.3.2 TCP/IP Configuration Double Click “TCP/IP” icon and the TCP /IP configuration window will pop-up. Y ou can configure the MFP Server to automatic ally get IP from DHCP server or manually specify st atic IP .
6.3.3 System Configuration Double Click “System” icon and the Sy stem configuration win dow will pop-up. In the System configuration pa ge, you can s ee all available printing methods, firmware upgrade and load factory default functio n.
6.3.4 Wireless Configurat ion (FPS-1010MG Only) Due to wireless interface is “Auto” in default. If you want to use the print server through wireless interface, please set up the MFP server through Ethernet firstly .

If you don’t have see the wireless device that you would li ke to connected, please click “Scan” to search again.
WEP Securit y Mode: Y ou can select “64 bit” or “12 8 bit” leng th and “WEP(HEX)” or “WEP(ASCII)” format for the encryption key . Longer key length can provide stronger security but worth communication performance. Enter four key values by following the rules bel ow and select one key as the default key .
WP A-shared key Security Mode: When “WP A-shared key”, also named “WP A-PSK” requires users to select the advanced encryption methods, i.e. TKIP and enter a set of shared key . WP A Algori thms TKIP - TKIP (T emporal Key Integrity Protocol) changes the temporal key every 10,000 packet s.
4. Y ou can select to let the print server automatically obtain IP settings from DHCP Server or manually assign the IP settings. If you manually assign the IP settings, you hav e to enter IP address, subnet mask an d default gateway address. When you finish conf iguring the IP settings, click “Next” to confirm the IP Addr ess configuration.
6.3.4.2 Ad-Hoc Mode 1. Y ou can let the print se rver automatically as sociate with other wirel ess station o r manually assign the SSID of your wireless network. Y ou can let the MFP server automatically select the channel that is the same with the peer o r manu ally assi gn a channel.
3. This print server suppo rts WEP and WP A-PSK security mode. If you want to use WEP encryption to protect your wireless n etw or k, you have to selec t “WEP(ASCII)” or “WEP(HEX)”. If you want to use WP A-PSK, y ou have to select “WP A-shared key”.

6.3.5 MFP Server Management Double Click “MFP Server Management” icon a nd the MFP Server configuration win dow will pop-up. Y ou are able to manage the MFP Server as below . Force Release : Select the port numbe r and then clic k “Force Rel ease” will help to you disconnect the current connection between the user and the connected device.
6.4 Report Click “Report” icon on the tool bar , the Re port window will pop up. The report list s basic information of all avail able MFP Servers on the network. The information includes Device Name, MAC ID, Model T ype and Firmware V ersion of MFP Server .
7. Web Management 7.1 Introduction MFP Server can be configured and managed by W eb Browser . Through Local Area Network, or even Internet, administrator can easily c onfigure a nd manage MFP Server’s various main functions in browsers.
7.3 Device Setup 7.3.1 System System Information includes “Device Name”, “M FP Server Name”, “Model T ype”, “Firmware V ersion”, “MAC Address”, “Wireless S tat us” and the p roto cols enabled statu s, etc. NOTE: Only FPS-1010MG has “Wireless LAN S t atus” & “Wireless Configuration” information.
7.3.2 Printer This page will sho w the information of MFP or printer that connected to the MFP Server port. 7.3.3 TCP/IP This page list s all TCP/IP settings of the MF P Server including “IP Address”, “Subnet Mask” and “Gateway”. It also can tell the DHCP server is “On” or “Of f”.
7.4 Setup Wizard 7.4.1 System Y ou can change the MFP Server n ame and po rt name of the MFP Server from he re. MFP Serv er Name: The name of the MFP Server . Y ou can use this name to identify the MFP Server when you are searching for the MFP Server by the “Server Manager” utilities.
7.4.1.2 Advanced Settings Some advanced feature of the MFP Server can be set here. LPR This MFP Server su pports LPR printing pr otocols. By default this protocol s is enabled. IPP This MFP Server supports IPP printing protocols. By default this protocols is enabled.
7.4.2 Wireless (FPS-1010MG O nly) If you want to use the print server through wireless LAN, please set up the MFP server through Ethernet first and make sure your wi reless LAN settings are corre ct.
7.4.2.1 Site Survey Y ou can use this “Site Survey” function to search for available access points in you location. In the list is the information of all available a cce ss points or wirele ss stations in cludes SSID, BSSID, Channel, T ype, Encryption and Signal S tr ength.
WEP Securit y Mode: Key Length Y ou can choose “6 4-bit” to use WEP with 64 -bit key length encryption or choose “128-bit” to use WEP with 128-bit key length encryption. The longer key length can provide better security but worse transmission throughput.
WP A-PSK Mode: When “WP A-shared key”, also named “WP A-PSK” requires users to select the advanced encryption methods, i.e. TKIP and enter a set of shared key . WP A Algori thms TKIP - TKIP (T emporal Key Integrity Protocol) changes the temporal key every 10,000 packet s.
7.4.3 TCP/IP If you need the MFP Serv er to automatically get an IP from DHCP server , select “Enable Obtain TCP/IP Settings Automatically (Use DH CP/ BOOTP)”. Y ou also can select “Disable Use the following TCP/IP Settings” to manually assign “IP Address”, “Subnet Mask” and “Gateway” for the MFP Server .
7.4.4 Save Settings When you select Save Settings, you will see t he dialog box for aski ng you to make sure you want to save the settings and reboot. Please cli ck “Y es” to save the configuration and reboot. 7.5 System T ools 7.5.1 Load Default Y ou can use this page to re store the MFP Server to factory default settings.
7.5.2 Upgrade Y ou can upgrade new firmware to the MFP Server in this page. Click “Browse” to locate the new firmware in your HDD and then click “OK” to start the upg rade procedure, the firmware will be updated in several minutes. NOTE: Be aware that if you have started upgra ding firmware, please DO NOT turn the MFP Server of f.
8. LPR Printing LPR Printing (Line Printer Remote tech nology) allows users to connect to MFPs or printers via TCP/IP for p rinting sharing. The computer with Win dows 98SE/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 operating system can use the proto col to s hare printing in the network.
4. Select “Local Printer attached to this computer” and click “Next”. 5. Choose “Create a new port” and “S tandard T CP/IP Port”. Click “Next”.
6. Please make sure that the MFP Server and the MFP or Printer have turned o n and connected to the network correctly before you continu e. Click “Next”. 7. Enter the IP Address of the MFP Server in the “Print er Name o r IP Address”. Click “Next”.
8. Select “Custom” and click “Settings”. When y ou h ave finished the settings at step 9, click “Next” to continue. 9. Select “LPR” and enter “lpt1” in the “Que ue Name”, click “OK”. By default the queue name of the MFP Server i s “lpt1 ”.
10. Click “Finish”. 11. Select a suitable printer manufacturer and the pri nter model and click “Next”. If your printer is not in the list, click “Have Disk…” to install the driv er of the printer . After installation, the printer model will be added to the list.
12. Choose to set the print whether as a default printer or not. Click “Next”. 13. Please select the test page will printed af te r the configuration or not.
14. Y ou have added the network printer to the PC successfully . The information of the printer is displayed in the windows. Click “Finish”. 59.
9. RAW Printing RA W Printing allows users to connect to printers via T CP/IP for print sharing. A computer with Windows 2000/XP/2003 operating sy stem can use the protocol to share printing on t he network. The MFP server can support RA W printing by default.
4. Select “Local Printer attached to this computer” and click “Next”. 5. Choose “Create a new port” and “S tandard T CP/IP Port”. Click “Next”.
6. Please make sure that the MFP server and t he all-in-one printer or Printer a re turned on and connected to the network correctly before you continue. Click “Next”. 7. Enter the IP Address of the MFP serve r in t he “Printer Name or IP Address” field.

10. IPP Printing 10.1 Introduction IPP (Internet Printing Proto col) Printing provides a convenient way of remote printing servic e by TCP/IP . When the MFP Server is work with a legal IP address, it can support IPP printing in Windows 2000/XP/2003 by default.
4. Select “A network printer , or a printer attached to another computer”. Click “Next”. 5. Select “Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or of fice network” and enter th e URL of MFP Server . The URL format is “http ://IP:631/Port Name”.
6. Select a suit able printer manufacturer and the printer model and click “Next”. If your printer is not in the list, click “Have Disk…” to install the driv er of the printer . After installation, the printer model will be added to the list.
8. Y ou have added the network printer to the PC successfully . The information of the printer is displayed in the windows. Click “Finish”. 70.
11. UNIX System Network 11.1 Introduction The MFP Se rver is available for TCP/IP printin g by Unix LPD (Line Printer Daemon) protocol. The LPD protocol originat ed with Unix releas e is based on the BSD version of Unix and supported under most versions of Unix.
11.3.1 DHCP There are many Unix systems t hat support DHCP protocol, and the procedures to configure the DHCP se rver database are dif ferent. Please re fer to the manual of Unix for the way to use different DHCP Server . It is highly recommend ed that the DHCP server should be located on the same network a s the MFP Server .
Node ID: 00304F010101 (t his implies Ethernet address is 00304F 010101), IP addre ss: 2 03.66.191.12 The entry for this MFP Server in the /etc/bootpt ab file should be: MF010101: :ht=1: :ha=00304F01010 1: :ip=203.

12. MFP Server Installation in MAC OS LPR Printing (Line Printer Remote te chnology) allows Macintosh computers to conne ct to MFPs or printers via TCP/IP . LPR Printing can be set up on any Macintosh wi th version 9.x above. T o enable LPR Printing in Macintosh, please follow the proce dures below .
3. From the “Print & Fax” screen, click “Set Up Printers…”. 4. Click “Add” to add the new MFP Server through TCP/IP . 76.
5. Enter the “Printer T ype”, “Printer Addr ess” and “Q ueue Name” and sele ct the “Printer Model” to setup the MFP Server . Click “Add” to continue. Printer T ype: LPD/LPR Printer Address: Input the IP Address of the MFP Server Queue Name: The queue name of the MFP Server i s “lpt1”.
6. The MFP Server is installed completely . Y ou can see it in the “Printer List”. 7. Y ou can print a file to check whether the MFP Server is inst alled successfully .
13. Troubleshooting 1. This product is not found even after search ing by the “MFP Server Control Manager”. Check if the power adapter and the network cable are conne cted to the MFP Server properly . Check if the LAN and Read y LEDs are turned on.
3. A user always connect s the MFP Server . Check the “Id le T imeout” setting of the MFP Se rver from the right side of “MFP Server Control Manage r”. If the status is “Never T imeout”, please contact wit h your administrator to change the setting.
