2 SAFETY RULES W ARNING: Alway s disconnect spark plug wi re and place wire where it can- not contact spark plug to prev ent acc idental starti ng when set ting up, transport ing, ad- justi ng or mak ing repairs exc ept carburetor adjustm ents.
3 S Move at least 10 feet (3 met ers) from fuel- ing sit e before s tarting engine. S Turn the engine off and l et saw cool in a non-combust ible area, not on dry leaves , straw, paper, etc.
4 Thumb on underside of handlebar Elbow loc ked S Keep a good, firm grip on the saw wi th both hands when t he engine is running and don’t let go. A firm grip will help y ou reduce kick back and mai ntain cont rol of the saw. Keep the fingers of your l eft hand enc ir- cling and your left thumb under the front handlebar .

6 Fit the c hain between the t eeth in the spro cket. S Start at the top of the bar and fit chain i nto groove around the guide bar . S Pull the bar forward until the chai n is s nug in the groove of t he bar . S Hold guide bar against the saw frame and instal l the chain brak e.

8 FUEL ING & LUBR ICATION W ARNING: Remove fuel cap slow- ly when ref ueling. FUELING ENGINE This engi ne is cert ified to operate on un- leaded gasoline. Bef ore operation, gasoline must be mixed with a good quality s yntheti c 2-cycle a ir- coole d engine oil designed to be mixed at a rati o of 40:1.
9 S Allow the engine to run for approx imately 5 seconds . Then, s queeze and releas e throttl e trigger to al low engi ne to ret urn to idle speed. ST ARTING A W ARM ENGINE: S Move ON/S TOP swit ch to the ON position. S Push the chok e knob i n completely (to t he OFF position).
10 S Squeeze the thrott le trigger and al low the engine to reac h full speed before cutti ng. S Begin cut ting wit h the saw f rame against the l og. S Keep the engine at full speed the en- tire time you are cutting . S Allow the chain t o cut for you.
11 NOTE: Before felling cut is complete, use wedges to open the cut if nec essary t o control t he direction of fall. T o avoid kick back and chain damage, us e wood or plast ic wedges, but never steel or i ron wedges .

13 AIR FIL TER CAUTION : Do not c lean f ilter in gasol ine or other f lammable s olvent to avoid creating a fire hazard or producing harm ful evapora- tive emissio ns. Cleaning the air filter: A dirty air fil ter dec reases engine perform - ance and increas es fuel c onsumption and harmful em issions .
14 Remove Sawdus t From Guide Bar Groove Spro cket Hol e Oil Holes S Add lubri cant to sproc ket hole af ter each use. S Burring of guide bar rai ls is a normal process of rai l wear. Remove t hese burrs with a flat file. S When rai l top is unev en, use a flat file t o re- store s quare edges and sides .
15 TROUBLE CAUSE REMEDY Engine will not start or w ill run only a few seconds af ter starti ng. S Ignition swit ch off. S Engine flooded. S Fuel tank empt y. S Spark plug not f iring. S Fuel not reaching carburetor . . S Move ign ition switch to ON. S See “Diff icult Start ing” in Operation Sec tion.
