5 Introduction - Networ king the DSP 322ua Notes on Network Sy stem Design: As with any communications system, the reliability and performance of a local area network (LAN) is intimately related to the designer's skill and knowledge in implementing a topology that is robust, efficient and standards-compliant.
6 Example #2 - Connection to an Unmanaged Switch: Switches can be connected to other switches to build larger ne tworks; all of the normal networking principles apply . Here all Q SCon- trol.net traffic resides on a single unmanaged Ethernet switch. The DSP 322ua connects directly to the switch.
7 Example #3 - Connecti on to a Managed Switch: This example illustrates a connection with a managed Ethernet switch. The switch is configured with multiple virtual local area networks (VLANs). Ethernet deliveries can onl y reach destination ports belonging to the same VLAN from which it was sourced.
8 Unpacking There are no special unpacking precautions. However , it is recommen ded you keep the original packing material for reuse in the rare event that service be required.
9 Computer Requirements & Software Installation Installing QSControl.net is easy . All you need to do is choose th e folder where the program is to be stored (the default settin g is accept- able for most applications). We recommend your syste m meet the following minimum requirements: 1- IBM PC compatible computer with a Pentium 4 processor .
10 Connections AC Power Cord Insert the molded receptacle of the AC power cord into the AC power inlet on the back of the DSP 322ua. Plug the AC line connec- tor into the AC outlet. The power supply will accept from 100 to 240 V olts AC, 47 to 440 Hertz, without any changes.
11 Relay Out T wo sets of relay contacts are provided, RELA Y OUT 1 and RELA Y OUT 2. Contacts are floating and rated for 30VDC, 1A. There is one common terminal, one normally-closed contact terminal and one normally-open contact terminal. These are labeled as C, NC and NO on the rear panel.
12 LED Indicators (continued) QSControl Status (Po rt) Indicators- There are three LEDs on the front and rear panels labeled RX, TX and LINK. These indicate the status for the QSControl.net netwo rk. Their functions are described below . RX (receive) - This indicator illuminates any time the DSP 322ua receives data from the network.
13 LCD Navigation Map Left si de button s have scr een depe ndent fun ctions. This read-only screen is the “out of the box” default display after power up. Th is is the most desired information when first sett ing up a network system. Once user moves to a differ ent screen, the last screen accesse d becomes the new power up default.
14 Getting Started This section outlines one of the simpler methods of getting fam iliar with your DSP 322ua and the QSControl.net software. The go al of this procedure is to get your computer and the DSP 322ua conne cted and communicating and the QSControl.
15 Getting Started (continued) 17- Select Device , Add Device , from the menu. A new window will open prompting you to name the device. Name it logically , such as DSP 1, or similar . Select the Device T ype and select DSP 322ua. At the Password prompt, ent er “qsc” (lower case, no quotatio n marks).
16 Operation QSControl Port The QSControl port operates on a 10BaseT Ethernet network. This por t is one of the primary means for connecting QSControl.net to the DSP 322ua. The port may connect directly to a PC's 10BaseT or 10/100 (auto-sensing or auto-negotiating) network interface card using a crossover cable.
17 Utility/Diagnostic Fu nctions (continued) RS-232 Communications Procedure: 1) Connect the RS-232 port of the DSP 322ua to an unused serial port (COM port) of a PC using a normal (straight-through) serial cable.
