6 IN STALLATION Follow this sequ ence to insure your phone wil l work properl y. • Install batteries (see “I nstalling Batteries”). • Reset t he phone (see “Resetting the T elephone” on Pa ge 7). • Make the phone connec ti o ns (see “Making the Connect ions” on Page 7).
7 4. Replace the cover and secure it with the sc re w . Note: T he telephone auto matically tests the bat teries each time it receives a call. If appears on the di sp lay or th e di sp la y di ms , re pl ac e the b a tt er ies . Important: W hen you repl ace the bat- teries, have fresh batteries on hand before you b egin.
8 3. T o have the phone t ilt slightly for- ward, insert t h e tabs on the nar- row end of the st and into the matching slots near the bottom of the phone . Then snap the stand into place by pressing in the two tabs toward the top of t h e phone. 4. Place the phon e on a desk .
9 5. Align th e phone s tand’s keyhole slots with the studs on t he wall plate a nd slide the phone down until it snaps into place. Direct Wa ll Mountin g You can m ount the ph one di r e ctly on the wall using t w o screws (not sup- plie d). Note: M ake sure the s crew’s h eads fit the ph one stand’ s keyhole slots.
10 5. Plug the other end of the modul ar phone cord into a modular phone jack. 6. Align th e phone s tand’s keyhole slots with the s crew he ads and slide the phone down until it snaps into p lace.
11 PREPARA TION SETTI NG THE R INGER SWITCH The ringer switch controls the volume of the p hone’s ring. Set the switch to HIGH i n a noi sy room (s uch as a kitc h- en) or to LOW in a qu iet room ( such as a bedroom ). If y ou do not want the ringer to sound, set RINGER to OFF .
12 STORING AN AREA CODE If you subscribe to Caller ID service, your ph one stores the caller’s phone number and area code. Then, when you wa nt to call bac k a caller, your phone compares y our area code to the caller’s area code. If the area c ode is the same, the phone doe s not dial it.
13 OPE RATION RECEIVING A CAL L When yo u receive a cal l, the telephon e automatically displays infor- mation about the caller and st ores the info rma tion in Caller ID mem or y, if y ou subscribe to the servic e. T h e tele- phone c an store up to 19 phone num- ber, or up to 7 nam e an d phone number records.
14 Call er ID Displa y Informatio n CALL -F D Appears in stead of the phon e number if the call was for- warded by a telephone that was set to forward all call s (using th e telephone com pan y’ s call forwarding s erv ice). Press READ to see t he phone num ber of the ori ginal calle r .
15 DATA E RRO R Appears if the Caller I D information was garbled. Minor electrical disturbances can affect Cal l er ID information. Occasi on al err ors are normal. If t h e syst em freq uently disp l ays DATA ER ROR , contact your local telephone company for assistance.
16 STORING NUMBERS IN MEM ORY You can s tore up t o three phone num- bers (15 digit s each) in the phone’s priority memory locations (P1, P2, or P3). To dial these numbers, see “Memory Dialing” on Page 17. Follow these steps t o s tore a t el e- phone number in a priority memory location.
17 MAKING A CALL In addition t o norma l dia ling, you can make a call using redialin g, memory dialing, or Caller ID d ialing. Redialin g The redial me mory h olds up to 32 di g- its, so it can store l o ng-distanc e as well as l ocal numb ers. To redial the last phone num ber dialed, pick up the handset and press REDIAL .
