5 PREPARA TION CONNECTING POWER For portable use, you can power your Concertmate 690 usi ng internal bat ter- ies. Using op tional adapters, you can also power it from a standard AC outlet or your vehicle’s c igarette lighter sock- et. Notes: • Connecting an AC or DC adapter automatical ly disco nnects int ernal batteries.
6 Using A C Po wer You can power y our Con certm ate 690 from a standard A C outlet using a 9- volt AC adapter, such as Cat. No. 273- 1656. Cautio ns: • Y ou mu st use an AC ada pter that supplies 9 volts of DC p ower and delivers a t l east 500 mill iamps.
7 1. Set MODE to POWER OFF . 2. Connect the adapter ’ s 5.5 m m outer diamet er/2.1 mm inner di- ameter plug t o t h e adapter ’s cord, matching TIP to negative (–). 3. Set the adapter ’s voltage swi tch to 9 volt s. 4. Insert the adapter ’s barrel plug into the Concertmate 69 0’ s DC 9V jack.

USING T HE PRESET SOUNDS Your Concert mate 690 can soun d like 100 different m usical in struments or sound effects. The name and two-di git number of e ach preset sound is listed on the Concertmate 690 ’s top panel.

13 USING AUTO ACCOMPANIM ENT After you select an auto-rhythm, the Concertmate 690 le ts you automa tical- ly add a harm onic accom paniment . You can select from two a uto accomp animent t ypes — easy ran dom fingering or standard fingering. Both methods are expla ined in de tail in the following sect ions.
14 Note: Y ou can pre ss any labeled note(s) to the right of the lowes t note in the chord to produce a minor, seventh, or mino r sevent h cho rd. Follow these steps to start easy ran- dom fingering auto accom pan im ent. 1. Set VOLUME to MIN . 2. Set MODE to CO NCERT CHORD .
15 Stan da rd Fin gerin g The sta ndard fingering method uses standard formations of three or four n otes, a nd lets the experienced musician play a wider variety of accompani men t chords. You can play the f o llowing 14 chord t ypes on your Concertmate 690, in any key, us- ing the standard fingering method.
16 Follow these st eps to st art standard fingering auto accompa nim ent. 1. Set VOLUME to MI N . 2. Set MODE to FI NG ERED . 3. Select and enter an auto-rhythm . 4. T o start the aut o-rhythm and a uto accomp animent at the sam e time, simply press at least three accom - paniment k eys to p l ay the desired chord.
17 Based on t h e selected f eature a nd the pol yphon y /texture s etting, y ou can play as many as eight notes at the same time, or as few as one note. Note: It migh t be difficult to tell the difference bet ween the hi gh- and lo w-level po- lyphony/texture settings at low ( MIN ) volume wi th certain sou nd sel ections.
