7 Prepa rA TION Powering t he T ransceiver Y ou pow er you r transceiver using the suppli ed rechargea ble battery pack. Y o u mu st charge the battery pack before y ou use it (see “Charg - ing the Ba ttery Pack”). Installing/Remov ing the Battery Pack T o in st all th e ba tte ry p ack, s lide it onto the trans ceiver as shown.
8 Follow t hese steps t o charge the battery pa ck. 1. If t he battery pac k is attach ed to the transceive r and t he trans- ceiv er is o n, turn it o ff . 2. Plu g the adapter ’s barrel plug into the CHRG jack on the side of the battery pa ck. T hen plug the adap ter ’s power module into a s tandard AC out let.
9 1. Align th e slots around t he antenna ’ s con nector with t he tabs on the an tenna jack on top of the tran sceiver . 2. Press the antenna down o ver the ja ck and turn t he ante nna’s base cl ockwise u nt il it lock s into pl ace.
10 Listeni ng Safely T o protect your hearin g, foll ow these guideli nes w hen you u se an ear- phone or headphon es: • D o not liste n at e xtremely h igh volume levels. Extended high- volume listeni ng can lead to perman ent hearing loss. • S et the vo lume to the lowes t setting be fore yo u begin listen- ing.
11 Use a Phillip s screwdriver to att ach the b elt c lip t o t he bac k of the t rans- ceiver with the two s upplied screws and washers. Then slide the belt clip over your belt or waistb and. Usi ng an Ext erna l SPEA KER/ Microphone T o con nect an ex ternal speaker/mi - crophone (such as Cat.
12 Follow t hese steps to install cr ys- tal s. 1. Remove the ba ttery pack and the antenna. 2. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove two of the screws on the b attery guide plate as show n. Then loosen the other two screws on t he battery gu ide plate about 4 full t urns.
13 7. Replace the two screws you removed f rom the ba ttery guide plate, then t ighten all the screws. 8. Replace t he battery pac k and the a ntenna. Ordering Crystals T o determine the crystals you nee d, use the following formulas: T ransm it Crystal: Operating Frequency 8 Receive Crystal: Operati ng Frequen cy — 10.

15 5. If you are using the supplied antenna , hold the transceiver so the a ntenna is vertical. 6. Adjust VOLUME to a comfort- able l istening level. 7. T o conserve battery power , set RF POWER to LO. Or , if the person you a re transmittin g to has trouble receivin g your sig- na l , s e t R F P OW E R to HI.
16 Operat ional Hints Y ou r transceiver ’ s range varies de- pending on factors such as position, terrain, a nd battery condi tion. Build- ings abs orb transm itted signals and , if they contain meta l, might com- plete ly block them. T rees and heavy cloud format ions have a similar ef- fect, though not as severe.
17 TRO UBL ES HO O TI NG If your transce iver is not workin g as it should, these s uggest ions m ight help you elim inate the problem.
