9 Chargi ng t he Batt ery Pack Befor e you use the bat tery pack for the fi rst time, you must use t he supp lied bat- ter y char ger to charge it for about 12 to 14 hours to bring it to a full char ge. Y ou cannot use the tr anscei ver whil e you char ge the batt ery pack.

13 Sett ing F requency Optio ns Befor e you c an use y our t ranscei ver , an aut hor iz ed ser v ic e fac ility mus t set your tr ansceiv er to a VHF busines s b and fre- quency you have a l icense to use. Then , you c an sel ect a preset CTCSS (Cont in- uous T on e C o ntrol Squel ch System) fre- quency an d set your trans ceiver t o use it.
14 Using a CTCSS Frequ ency Foll ow these st eps to set your t ranscei v- er to a CTCSS freq uency and t hen act i- vate or deact ivate CTCSS. 1. T ur n VOLUME f ully count ercl ock- wise to m ake sure power is turne d off. 2. Remove the b attery c ompartm ent cover (see “ Insta lling t he Batt ery Pack” on Page 8).
15 4. Hold down PUSH TO T AL K, then tur n VOLUME clockwi se until i t cli cks . The transc ei ver se ts the CTCSS code. Releas e PUSH TO TA L K . If the t ranscei ver b eeps onc e and RX/TX l ights g reen f or about 2 seconds , tha t mea ns the CTCSS se tting w as s ucce ssful.
16 Operat ion Note: Y ou can only com municat e with another transc eiver that is usi ng the same channel and/or the same CTCSS c o de as yo u r tr an s c e i v er.
