5 Features ˆ Features Your Digital Answering System is a sophi sticated fully-digital message center that combines a telephone and an answering machine in one con venient package. Fully-digital means the answering system stores all messages on a computer chip.
6 Features Adjustable Ring Number — lets you set the system to answer after two, four, or seven rings. Toll-Saver — lets you avoid unnecessary toll charges when you call long-distance to check your messages.
7 Features TELEPHONE 13-Number Memory Dialing — lets you store up to 13 phone numbers in memory for easy diali ng: 3 priority (one-touch) num- bers and 10 standard numbers. Volume Control — lets you adjust the handset’s volume . Ringer Control — lets you set the ringer to a high or low vol- ume or turn off the ringer.
8 Features FCC STATEMENT Your system complies with Part 68 of FCC Rules . You must, upon request, provide the FCC registration number and the REN to your phone company.
9 Installation ˆ Installation SELECTING A LOCATION Select a location for the system that is near both a modular phone jack and an AC outlet, and out of the way of normal activ- ities. You can place the system on a flat surface or mount it on a wall plate or directly on the wall.

18 Telephone Operation ˆ T e lephone Operation SETTING THE PULSE/T ONE SWITCH Set PULSE/TONE on the handset for the type of service you have. If you are not sure which type you have, do this test: Lift the handset and set PULSE/TONE to TON E . When you h ear the dial tone, press any number other than 0 .
19 Telephone Operation USING REDIAL To dial the last number d ialed, lift the handset. When you he ar the dial tone, pr ess REDIAL . The phone di als the last number di- aled. USING RESET At the end of a call, you can make you r next call without placing the handset in the cra dle.
20 Telephone Operation USING T ONE SERVICES ON A PULSE LINE If you have pulse se rvice, you normally operate your pho ne with PULSE/TONE set to PULSE . You can temporarily set your phone to send tones for banking servi ces or computer transactions. Dial the number as usual.
21 Telephone Operation Notes: • For security purposes, we recommend that you do not store private numbers, such as personal iden tification num- bers or passwords. • Y ou cannot erase a number in memory , but yo u can change it by storing a new one in its place.
22 Answering System When calling special services, dial the service’s main number first. At the appropriate place in the cal l, press the approp riate memory number for the additional numbers you want to send. ˆ Answering System PREPARATION Complete the procedu re s i n this section b efore you beg in using the answering system to answer calls.
23 Answering System Adjusting the V olume Press VOLUME to increa se the volume and to decrease the volume of the system speaker. The system beeps each time you press VOLUME or so you can hear the selected level.
24 Answering System 4. Press /TIME CHECK/REPEA T . The system announces “0.” Repeatedly press /TIME SET/SKIP until you hear the correct minute. 5. Press /TIME CHECK/REPEA T . The system announces “AM.” If you want to set the time to “PM,” press /TIME SET/SKIP once.

29 Answering System Note: If you pick up the phone just as the system answers, th e system might not stop pl aying the OGM. If this happens, press ON/OFF/STOP to turn off the system. Playing Incoming Messages The MESSAGE indicator flashes after the system records one or more incoming messages.
30 Remote Operation • T o re peat the previous message, hold down /TIME CHECK/REPEA T for about 1 second until the system beeps. • T o skip fo rward to the next message, press /TIME SET/ SKIP . • T o stop playback of any messag e at any time, press ON/ OFF/STOP .
