4 CHOO SING A PO WER SUPPLY You can power t he receiver usi ng eit her: • F ou r AA ba t te r i es • Standa rd AC p ower ( w it h an opti on al AC adapter ) • 12-vo lt DC vehicle powe r (wi th an opti onal DC adapter) INSTALLING BATTERIES You need four AA batte ries (not suppl ied) to p ower your recei ver.
5 1. Open the batt ery compar tment by pus hing the cover i n the direc tion of the arrow . 2. Insta ll four AA batter ies in the batt ery compar tment as in di - cated b y the p olarity symbols (+ and –) mark on the back of the recei ver . Pl ace the batteri es on top o f the rib bon so you c an easil y li f t them out later .
6 USING A V EH ICLE BATTERY With a DC adapter (such as Cat. No. 14-844, not suppli ed), you can operat e the receive r in a car, boat, o r rec reational vehicl e equi pped with a 12- volt DC, negat ive-gr ound elec tric al syst em. Inser t th e adapter’ s barre l plug in to the receiver’ s DC 6V jac k.
7 OPE RATION T UNING THE RECEIVER 1. T o tu rn on the receive r , pres s POWER . 2. Set SW /L W /AM /FM to the desi red band. For shor twave, al so set SW BAND 1–9 to one of the bands fro m 1 to 9. See “L istening G uide” on Page 10 for more i nformat ion about each ban d.
