2 FEA TURES Y our RadioShack Real V oice X•K•Ka Superwide Radar/Laser Detector can aler t you to all known police traffic radar and laser systems. It receiv es X-, K-, and Ka-band radar signals and also detects both the instant-on and laser systems many police depar tments use to measure vehicle speed.

V G-2 Protection — mak es your detector in visible to the V G-2 radar-detector detector when it senses V G-2 operation. 360 ° Detection — detects la ser signals from both the front and the rear of your v ehi cle.

8 INSTALLATION MOUNTING GUIDELINES F ollow these guidelines w hen selecting a location. • Choose a location that does n ot bloc k the dr iver’ s view of the road. • Mount the detector in a lev el position with a clear view to both the front and rear .
9 HOOK-AND-LOOP T APE MOUNTING F or some dashboards, the hook-and-loop tape includ ed with your detector might be best f or mounting. F ollo w these steps to use the hook-and-loop tape. 1. Use a damp cloth to clean the bottom of the de tector and the dashboard.
10 WINDSHIELD MOUNTING The supplied suction-cup windshi eld brack e t lets you easily mount the detector on the windshield. Caution: Do not use the brac ket in a v ehicle that has a plastic coating on the windshield de signed to protect passengers dur- ing an accident.

12 CONNECTING P OWER Caution: • Use only the supplied straight or coiled power cord. If y our powe r cord is lost or damaged, you can order a replace- ment cord from yo ur local Rad ioSha ck store .
13 OPERATION T URNING THE DETECTOR ON AND OFF T o tur n on the detector , press PWR . The detector sounds a distinctive aler t and disp la ys the indica- tors f or each aler t type as a self test , in this order : T o tur n off the detector , press the PWR bu tt o n .
14 DEMONSTRATING ALER TS T o familiarize yourself with the diff erent aler ts y our detector sounds, y ou can r un a demonstration. T o star t the demonstra- tion, press and release MUTE and CIT Y at the sa me time with the detector tur ned on.
15 SELECTING THE CITY AND HIGHWA Y MODES Y our detector’ s CITY and CITY 1 modes are designed to reduce annoying f alse aler ts trigg ered by automatic door openers, intrusion alar ms, and other de vices that share fre- quencies with police radar . In the CITY 1 mode, only X-band sensitivity is lowered.
16 DIMMING THE DISPLA Y T o dim the display , hold down PWR f or 2 seconds. The detector displa ys DIM , then the displ ay di ms. T o make the displa y black out, hold down PWR f or 2 more sec- onds .
17 SELECTING OPTIONS Entering Option Select Mode allows you to personaliz e the tone, Real V oice, po wer up sequence and VG-2 mode. When selecting options, y ou must press , , or MENU within 20 seconds or the detector automatically ex its the option mode.
18 RECEIVING AND IDENTIFYING ALER T SIGNALS Y our detector gives diff erent audible and visual aler ts f or each signal. In addition, the al er t tone pulse rate increases with sig- nal strength and the detecto r displa ys a digit from 1 to 9 to indi- cate the signal strength (1 is weakest and 9 is strongest).
19 Safety Radar Alerts Y our radar detector detects all saf ety radar including the new Saf ety W a rning System. This system provides adv anced warn- ing of hazards and l ets you respond appropriatel y to potentially dangerous conditions. Note: Not all areas have Safety W ar ning System transmitters.

22 Laser A udio/Visual Aler ts When your r adar detector detects a laser signal from ahe ad or behind, the laser audio sounds an d the radar detector displa ys LASER f or as long as the signa l is present (f or a mini- mum of 3 seconds).
23 Any laser aler t, regardless of duration, requires immedi ate action! If you are the targeted v e hicle, a laser gun can often deter mine your speed within seconds after you receiv e an aler t. Howe ver , if you are tra veling near or behind the targeted v ehicle and receive an aler t, you should hav e time to respond.
24 RESETTING THE DETECTOR The detector keeps the audio le vel, city/highway mode, mute mode, dim mode, auto quiet mode , V G-2 option, and on or off setting in memor y when power is remo ved. When y ou reapply pow er , it retur ns to these same settings.
25 T R OUBLESHOOTING If you ha ve problems oper ating your radar/laser detector, the suggestions in this sectio n might help . If you cannot solv e th e problem after trying th ese suggestions, take your detector to your local RadioShack store f or assistance.
26 If the detector gives a false aler t when you use accesso- ries such as power windo ws, motorized mirror s, brakes, and so on: • Check the v ehicle’ s electri cal system, including the main batter y cable and alter nator connections. • Install a filter capacitor (1,000 µ f, 35 v olts, such as Cat.
27 REPLACING THE FUSE If the detector stops operating, check the fuse in the DC po w e r cord’ s cigarette-li ghter plug. If it has b lown, f ollow these steps to replace it with a 2-Amp, 1 1 / 4 × 1 / 4 mm, f ast-acting fuse (Cat. No . 270-1 007).
