7 I NST ALLATI ON Imp o rt an t : To be sure your TAD-1006 works properly, follow this sequence to in st all it. 1. Select a location (see “Selecting a Location”). 2. Connect the AC adapter (see “Connecting the AC Adapter”). 3. Install a back up battery (see “Installing a B ackup Battery” on Page 8).
8 2. P lug the other en d of the AC adapter into a standard AC outlet. The T AD-1006 initializes , the L. BA TT (low battery ) indicator lights steadily , and the A NSWER , MEMO, and PL A Y indi cators f lash six times. T hen the T AD-1006 beeps o nce and the ANSW ER indicator lights steadi ly .
9 Replace the ba ttery if the L.BATT (low ba tte ry ) ind icato r tur ns on w h ile th e AC adapter is properly connecte d. Cautio ns : • Before you rep lace t he battery , be sure the sup plied adapter is securel y con nect ed to an AC out- let an d to the jack on the b ack of the T AD-1006.

11 Mo un t i ng D ir ect l y on th e W a ll To install the T AD-1006 di rectly on the wall, you need a drill and two s crews (not supplied) with heads that fit into the keyhol e sl ots on the m ounting bracket. 1. At the desired mounting location, drill two holes 3 15 / 16 inches apa rt, one above the other .

14 Storin g a Number in Memory Note : It is not unusual t o hear beep- ing/buzzing or the op erator’s voice on the line as you store a number in t he TAD-1006’s m emory.
15 Storin g a Pause in Memory In some teleph one systems , you m ust dial an access co de (9, for exam ple) and wait for a second dial tone b efore you can dial a n ou tside number. You can store the access code with the phone nu mbe r ; however, you m ust also store a pause after the acces s code to all o w the outside line time t o connect.
16 T AD PREP ARATION Complete the proc edures in t his sec- tion before you begin using the TAD to answer calls. Notes : • The k eypad is loc ated unde r the cover on the front of the T AD- 1006.
17 2. Press 1/TI M E . The T AD says, “ Press one for Mo nday, two for Tuesday, three f or Wednesday , four for Thursday, five for Friday, six for Saturday, s even for Sun- day. ” 3. Press a n umber button to set the day of the week. The T AD says the day of week and, “ E nte r th e ti me.
18 RECORDING ANNOUNCEMENT S Recor ding the Ou tgoin g An nounc eme nt The TAD has a built-in outgoing an- nouncement that s ays “ Pl ease leave your message after the tone .” You can record a diff erent annou nce- ment (up to 1 minute long) for the call- er to hear when the TAD answers a call.
19 Ch ecking/De leting the Ou tgoin g Anno uncement You can press OGM at any ti me to play the outgoin g announ cement. Ad- just VOLUME on the side of the T AD to a comf ortable listening level . To stop listening to the outgoing an- nouncement before it ends, press ON/ OFF .
20 T AD OPERATION Be sure you complete the proced ures in “Installation” a nd “TA D P repa ration” before you beg in using the T AD. SETTI NG T HE T AD TO ANSWER/NOT ANSWER CALLS To set the TA D to answer cal ls, simply turn it on by p r e ssing ON/ OFF so the AN SW ER in d ic ato r t ur ns on .
21 • If the T AD answers when the memory is f ull, it plays the mem- ory full ann ouncement , wai ts 7 seconds f or any remote operat ion command s (see “Using Remote Comma nds” on Page 27), then hangs up. The T A D cannot record additional messag es un til you delete som e of the old on es (see “Deleting Message s” o n Page 25).

Adjust VOLUME on t he side of t he TAD to a comfortable listening level. To stop li stening to the message be- for e it e n ds , pr es s ON /OFF .
23 • If you hang up the phone without pressing ON/OFF , the T A D-1006 might cont inue t o record. To play back a recorded conversation, see “ Playing 2-Way Conv ersations” on Page 2 4. RECORDING A MEMO A me mo is a m ess age that you record by speaking di rectly at the TAD-1006, without calling in on the phone line.
24 Playi ng Incomi ng Mess ages The PLA Y in di ca tor fla sh e s af te r th e TAD records one or more incom ing messag es. To listen to the incoming message(s), press PLA Y . The T AD tells you how many messages it h as recorded. F or example , if there a re three message s, the TAD say s “Three messag es .
25 The TAD p l ays each r e c o r d ed memo, one after the other, beginning with the most re cent one. At t he end o f eac h, the TAD announces the day and time the mem o was rec orded.
26 REMO TE T AD OPE RATION While you are away from your h ome or office, you can use a touch-tone phone or a pu lse (rotary) phone with a pocket tone dialer to enter your re- mote operation sec urity .
27 3. Enter the new 3-digit remot e oper- ation security code. The T AD beeps once aft er you press each button, then it beep s twi ce to indi- cate the n ew cod e ha s been stored in memory .
28 4. Within 7 sec onds, en ter your selection (see “ List of Remote Comma nds” on Page 29). Notes : • If you do not press a but ton within 7 seconds, the T AD hangs up.

30 PROBLE M SOL VI N G We do no t exp ect you to hav e any prob lem s with y our TAD-1006, b ut if you do , try these sugge stions. I f the T AD-1006 still doe s not ope rate as you think it should, take it t o your local Radio Shack store for assistance.
31 Pro blem Cau se Remedy The TAD does not respond to remote command s. You e ntered an incorrect remote operation security code. C a r e f u l l y re -e n t e r your remot e opera- ti on se cu r i ty c od e. I f the T AD f a il s to r e- spond, the sec urit y code might have re- set to the default code.
32 RESETTI NG T HE T AD- 10 06 If the TAD-1006 lo cks up or does not operate prop erly, you m ight need to reset i t. Imp o rt an t : Resetting t he TAD-1006 deletes all recorded me ssages (in- cluding any out going annou nce- ments), day and time set tings, numb er of rings, and reset s t he re mote opera- tion security c od e to its default.
