3 1 2 ABC 3 DEF 4 GHI 5 JKL 6 MNO 7 8 TUV 9 WXY 0 # TALK W all mount Desk mount TONE/ PULSE switch I NST ALLA TION AND S ETUP 1. Insert the handset antenna and screw into place. 2. Set the TONE/ PULSE switch to PULSE if you have rotary service or TONE if you have touch-tone service.
4 Cordlessphone 4. Plug the AC power supply cord into an electrical outlet which cannot be switched off. Do not use an outlet that can be turned on and off by a wall switch. NOTE: Whenever a power interrup- tion occurs or the batteries are replac- ed, the handset must be returned to the base to reset the security code.
5 NOTE: Although you can leave the handset out of the base for extended periods, you will need to return it to the base periodically to keep the battery recharged. TIP: Periodically clean the charging contacts on the handset and base with a soft cloth or a pencil eraser .
6 S ETTING THE V OLUME S WITCH The VOL HI/LO controls the volume of the hand- set's earpiece when you're talking on the phone. M AKING AND R ECEIVING C ALLS M AKING A C ALL The two things you need to know to make a call are: 1. Press the T ALK button before you dial.
7 A UTOMA TIC S T ANDBY Y ou can leave the phone ON and place the handset in the base. It will automatically hang up. When you pick up the handset the phone will be ON.

10 B A TTERY S AFETY P RECAUTIONS • Don’ t disassemble, mutilate, puncture, wet, or dispose of battery in fire. Like other batteries of this type, if it is burned or punctured, it could release toxic materials which can cause injury . • Keep batteries out of the reach of children.
11 C HANGING THE B A TTERY Make sure the phone is OFF when you replace the battery . 3. Pull out the battery pack, and then remove the battery plug. 4. Replace and plug in the new battery pack (use catalog # BT -28). 1. Slide open the battery compartment door .
12 T ROUBLESHOOTING G UIDE Problem Solution No dial tone • Check installation: — Is the base power cord connected to a working outlet? — Is the Phone-in-Use light on? — Is the telephone line cord connected to the base unit and the wall jack? • Connect another phone to the same jack.
