Connections and Setup Back of D VD Pla y er : Explanation of Jacks and Cables There ar e several wa ys to connect your D VD Play er to your TV depending upon the cables you ha ve and the jacks that ar e on the back of your TV . Different jacks and cables pr ovide a differ ent lev el of performance.
4 Connections and Setup Audio Jacks and Cables A UDIO L (left) and R (right) These jacks send the audio from the disc y ou’ re pla ying to the TV . The audio jacks and cables are often color -coded (red for right audio , and white for left audio).
1 ST ANDBY/ON - T urns the pla yer on and off. The indicator lights when the pla yer in standby mode (off but still plugged into an AC outlet). 2 EJECT - Removes disc fr om play er . 3 ST OP - Stops disc pla y . 4 PREV - Goes to the beginning of the pr evious chapter or track.

Connections and Setup 7 Connection: D VD + TV + VCR 1. Connect the audio cables to the AUDIO OUT L (left – white) and R (right – red) jacks on the back of your D VD pla yer , and to the corresponding Audio Input jacks on your TV (sometimes labeled AUDIO IN L and R).
Connections and Setup 8 2. The first time you turn on y our DVD pla yer , a Language Selection menu appears. If you want the D VD play er’ s menus to appear in English, press the OK button on the remote contr ol. If you pref er another language, press the button until that language is highlighted and press OK to select it.
Connections and Setup 9 Ho w to find your TV’ s Video Input Channel In order to see what’ s playing on y our DVD Pla yer , you need to tune the TV to the Video Input Channel that corresponds to the jacks y ou used to connect the D VD Pla yer to the TV .
10 Button Descriptions for D VD Mode In addition to operating your D VD Pla yer , the remote that came with it will operate most RCA, GE, and Pr oscan TVs and VCRs. How ev er , this page only describes the buttons on the remote that y ou will use with y our DVD Pla yer .
11 Button descriptions for TV and VCR buttons This remote operates most TVs and VCRs that carr y the RC A, GE, or Pr oscan brand. The f ollowing list (in alphabetical or der) pro vides basic information about how these buttons will operate when in TV or VCR mode.
12 Chapter 3 Pla ying Discs Regional Coding Both the D VD Play er and the discs are coded by region. These regional codes m ust match in order f or the disc to pla y . This pla yer’ s code is Region 1 . ALL means all regions. Other regions are: 2: Europe, the Middle East, Rep.
13 Sear ch Options To search a disc, you can use the FOR W ARD button or the REVERSE button. Y ou can also use the following search f eatures: Picture Scan - When you’ r e pla ying a disc , each time you pr ess FOR W ARD or REVERSE, your D VD Pla yer scans the disc faster until you r each the fastest scan speed.
Using the On-Screen Inf o Displays The Info Displa y appears across the top of the scr een when you pr ess the INFO button on the r emote while y ou’ re pla ying a disc .
15 To access the Info Display , press the INFO button on the r emote while y ou’ re pla ying a disc . Use the and arrow buttons on the r emote to highlight different icons. Once an icon is highlighted, f ollow the on-scr een instructions, and use the or buttons to scroll thr ough options.
16 Subtitles Icon (D VD Info Displa y) By default, subtitles are off. T o turn subtitles on: 1. With Info Displa y on the screen, press the button until the Subtitle icon is highlighted.
17 Pla y Mode Icon (D VD , CD Info Displa ys) The Pla y Mode options available depend upon the type of disc you’ re pla ying. The default pla y mode (standard play) pla ys the disc’ s contents in the order in which the disc was created (i.e., track 1 pla ys first, followed b y track 2, etc.
Pla ying Discs 18 AB Repeat (D VDs only) AB Repeat lets you define a specific segment on the disc that y ou want to repeat. T o watch a scene over and o ver : 1. With the Pla y Mode icon highlighted in the Info Display , press the or buttons until Repeat Mode: AB.
19 Creating a Bookmark 1. Highlight the Bookmark icon on the Info Displa y . Press OK (the Bookmark Banner a ppears). 2. Highlight an unused bookmark. When the disc reaches the scene you want to mark, press the OK button on the remote (the bookmark icon changes to tw o icons side-by-side: an arro w and a trash can).
20 Camera Angle Icon (D VD Info Displa y) Some discs contain multiple angles of a particular scene or sequence . If the disc only has one angle, this feature w on’t w ork. Curr ently , very few discs ha ve this featur e . 1. While a disc is pla ying, press ANGLE on the remote.
21 4. Select a file using the , , and buttons, press OK, and then press PLA Y to start playback. Note: when a music file (mp3 or WMA) is selected for more than two seconds, the player lets you hear the first 10 seconds of the song.
22 Musical Slide Sho w: pla ying JPEG and mp3 or WMA music files at the same time Y ou can display JPEG files while listening to mp3 or WMA music files recor ded on the same disc. 1. Insert the disc containing the two types of files in the pla yer . 2.
23 The Pla y Menu The Play menu doesn’t ha ve submeus or options lik e the other main menu options. Instead the status changes: if y ou’ re pla ying a disc and access the main menu, the menu a ppears as Resume Play ; if you ha ven’ t star ted pla ying the disc, the title of the disc appears next to the Play menu.

25 The P arental Contr ol Menu Y ou can set up ratings limits and lock your pla yer in order to contr ol the type of content people watch on your D VD Pla yer .
26 Unlocking your D VD Play er 1. If you’ re pla ying a disc , press ST OP (the D VD Pla yer’ s main menu appears). 2. Press the button until Pa r ental Control is highlighted, and press OK (the Enter P assword screen appears). 3. Use the number buttons to enter the passw ord you created, and press OK (the Par ental Control men u items appear).
27 To set Ratings for Rated Titles: The Rating Limits menu enables you to block discs that contain movies that ha ve a rating assigned to them (R, PG-13, PG, G, etc .) from being pla yed unless you enter the passwor d you created in the P assword menu.
Menu System 28 TV Imag e The TV Image menu adjusts the wa y a movie appears on y our TV . Standard TVs are 4 x 3 format. Depending on the type of television y ou ha ve, you ma y want to adjust the screen setting (also called the aspect ratio). 1. With the pla yer on (no disc pla ying), press MENU (the main menu appears).
29 16x9 Widescreen – Choose this setting if your D VD Pla yer is connected to a wide-screen TV . If you choose this setting and you don’ t hav e a widescreen TV , the images on the screen might appear distorted due to ver tical compression.
30 The Sound Menu The Sound menu lets you adjust the pla yer’ s settings to match the equipment you connected to y our D VD Pla yer , and to use the D VD Pla yer’ s Sound featur es. All of the submenus in the Sound menu ha ve two settings: On and Off.
Menu System 31 The Languag es Menu The Languages menu enables you to set pr eferr ed language options for : • Player Menus (the D VD Pla yer’ s menu system) • Disc Menus • Audio (the dialogue of D VD titles) • Subtitles The wa y you choose languages is the same for each of the Languages submenus.
32 Chapter 5 Additional Inf ormation Tr oubleshooting Y ou can correct most pr oblems you ha ve with your pr oduct by consulting the T r oubleshooting list that follows.

Additional Inf ormation 36 Recommendations and information concerning discs CD-R and CD-R W discs This pla yer can pla y most CD-R and CD-R W discs. How ever , depending on the recor der of the discs .
Additional Inf ormation 37 CD-R and CD-R W discs with JPEG format “imag e” files To view your JPEG images on a TV set you do not need to record y our photographs with a r esolution abo ve 400,000 pix els (which corresponds to an image format of about 720 x 576 dots) because of the resolution of most TVs.
