5 Both LP and natural gas ha ve an odorant added to aid in detecting a gas leak. Some people may not physically be able to smell or r ecognize this odorant.
6 Ha ve the installer show you the location of the gas shut-off v alve and how to shut it off if necessary . T urn off the manual shut-off valve if the water heater has been subjected to overheating, f ire, flood, ph ysical damage or if the gas supply fails to shut off.
Installing the (OUTDOOR) water heater: This water heater must be installed in accordance with these instructions, local codes, utility company requir ements and/or in the absence of local codes, use the latest edition of the American National Standard/National Fuel Gas Code.

10 Installing the water heater: The water heater must be installed with a 3” diameter UL appro ved Category III Stainless Steel appliance vent pipe and an appr opriate adapter . V enting The installation of venting must comply with national codes, local codes and the vent manufacturer’ s instructions.
V enting Through Closed Spaces If the vent piping passes through a closed space, a minimum clearance of 8” (20 cm) when installed horizontally or 6” (15 cm) when installed v ertically should be maintained between the v ent pipe and combustibles and noncomb ustibles.

Installing the water heater: Additional Considerations Do NO T install vent terminal under any patio or deck. T o help prev ent moisture from freezing on walls and under eav es, do not locate vent terminal on the side of a building with prev ailing winter winds.

The W all Thimble requires mechanical support from the wall suf ficient to support any incidental loads on the system.
V ertical V ent Installation A fire stop plate should be installed at e very penetration of a floor or ceiling if the vent is not running in a fire-rated shaft. Maintain the recommended air space clearance to combustible materials and b uilding insulation.
16 W ater Supply Connections IMPOR T ANT : Do not apply heat to the HO T or COLD water connections. If sweat connections are used, sweat tubing to adapter befor e fitting adapter to the water connections on heater . Any heat applied to the water supply fittings will permanently damage the internal components of the water heater .
W ater Supply Connections, continued Notice: If the water flo w resistance of a shower head is too high, the b urner in the water heater will fail to ignite.
Relief V alve A new pressur e relief valve, complying with the Standard for Relief V alves and A utomatic Gas Shut-Off Devices f or Hot W ater Supply Systems, ANSI Z21.22/ CSA 4.4, must be installed at the hot water outlet connection of the water heater at the time of installation.
This water heater is certif ied for installations up to 3,280 feet (1000 m) abov e sea level. The input rating of this water heater is based on sea le vel operation. At higher elev ations, the actual input rate may be lower than the value listed on the rating label.
Remote Control Installation One (1) remote control is provided with the water heater . Additional remote controls may be purchased separately . Up to three (3) remote controls can be used with this water heater .

24 Installing the water heater: For increased ener gy efficienc y , use pipe insulation. Please install the insulation according to the diagram abov e, making sure to insulate all the way to the top. Do not cov er any drain or pressure relief valv e(s).

28 W ater T emperature Setting… Maximum water temperature occurs while the burner is on. T o determine the water temperature, turn on a hot water faucet and place a thermometer in the water stream. W ater temperature at the faucet may v ary depending on season and length of pipe from the water heater .

CA UTION: Do not operate without the condensate trap connected to the vent and r outed to the proper drain. ! 30 Condensate T rap Inspection On a regular basis, inspect the condensate trap to ensure there is enough water in the trap and the condensate is draining properly .
Draining the W ater Heater W ARNING: Failure to drain the water heater can cause serious damage to the water heater as well as personal injury . Below are instructions for draining w ater out of the water heater . T urn off the switch on the remote control.

Err or Code Guide: When an error code is displayed: ● Close the hot water faucet, turn of f the switch on the remote control. ● W ait for about 5 minutes before turning the switch on again. ● Open the hot water faucet. If the error code remains in the display: ● Close the hot water faucet and turn of f the switch on the remote control.
34 Replacement Parts: Outdoor W ater Heater Instructions For Placing a P arts Order Address parts orders to the distributor or store where the water heater was purchased. All parts orders should include: The model and serial number of the water heater from the rating plate.
Required adjustment f or up to 140°F (60°C) water temperature settings W ARNING: Refer to scald potential warnings on page 4 before making adjustment. Changing this setting is done at your own risk. DO NO T alter the #4 DIP Switch if the setting of up to 140°F (60°C) is not required.
