Installing the water heater . 6 Thermal Expansion T ypical Installation Determine if a check valve exists in the inlet water line. It may have been installed in the cold water line as a separ ate back flow pr eventer , or it may be par t of a pressur e r educing valv e, water meter or water sof tener .
W ARNING: The pressure rating of the relief valve must not exceed 150 PSI, the maximum working pressure of the water heater as marked on the rating plate. A new combination temper atur e and pressur e relief v alv e, complying with the Standar d for Relief V alv es and Automatic Gas Shut-Off D evices for H ot W ater Supply Systems , ANSI Z21.
8 Installing the water heater . NOTICE: This guide recommends minimum branch circuit sizing and wire size based on National Electric Code. Refer to wiring diagrams in this manual for field wiring connections.

13 If adjustment is necessary… T urn off the power to the water heater . Remove the jacket access panel(s) and insulation exposing the thermostat(s). The thermostat protectiv e cover(s) should not be r emov ed. Using a small scr ewdriv er , set the thermostat(s) dial pointer(s) to the desir ed temper atur e.
14 Routine Preventative Maintenance P roperly maintained, your wa ter heater will provide years of dependable tr ouble- fr ee service. It is suggested that a r outine pr eventiv e maintenance progr am be established and follow ed by the user .
