Getting Started 1 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone by first configuring your hardware, ac tivating your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Setting Up Y our Phone Prior to use it is ne cessary to install both the battery and SIM i nto their corresponding internal compartments.
2 • Make sure that the card’s gold contacts face into the phone a nd that the upper-left angle d corner of the card is positioned as shown. Note: If the c ard is not inse rted co rrectly , the phon e does n ot dete ct the SI M card. Re-ori ent the card bac k into the slot if the SIM is not dete cted.
Getting Started 3 Ins tal lin g the Batter y 1. Insert the battery into the opening on the b ack of the phone, making sure the battery contacts align (1). 2. Gently press down to secure the battery (2). 3. Replace the battery cover ont o the back of the phone in the direction shown by the arrow (1).
4 Char ging a Ba tter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery . Use the T ravel Adapter included with your phone to charge the battery . Use only Samsung-approved batteries and ch argers. Note: Searching for service, vibrat e mode, browser use , and other vari ables may reduce th e battery’s talk and standby times .
Getting Started 5 Note: Failure to unplug the wall charger b efore r emoving the battery can cause damage to t he phone. Low Batter y Indicator When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk time remain, the “Battery critically low” warning appears and the device sounds a warning tone at regular intervals.

If you select custom , follow the on-screen instructi ons. 5. Scroll through the list of time zones and tap the time zone of your choice to high light it and tap next .

When you hear your voicemail greeting, press the asterisk key on the phone you are using. 3. Enter your passcode. T roubleshooting If your phone is frozen or unresponsive, try the following: 1.

12 Section 2: Understanding Y our Phone This section outlines some key features of your phone and describes the screen and the icons that appear when the phone is in use. Proxi mity and Li ght sensors : the Proximity sensor detects how close an object is to t he surface of the s creen (for example, when your face is against the phone during a call or the phone is in your pocket), locks the k eys to prevent accidental key presses, and turns off the screen.
14 1. Power/Accessory Interface connector : allows you to connect a travel charger or other optional accessories such as a USB/data cable. 2. V olume keys : allow you to adjust the ringer volume while in standby mode or adjust the voice volume during a call.

Understanding Y our Phone 17 Maps : lets you use Bing Maps, a free introductory location- based service that provi des static, non-moving, non- voice guided, turn-by-turn driving directions. It also has additional user features such as L ocal Search (limited) business listings and points of interest (POI).

Call Functions 25 Making a Call from P eople Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regularly in th e phone’s memory . These entries are collectively called People . For further details about using the People feature, see “Dialing or Messaging from People” on page 37.
26 Saving a Recent Cal l to People 1. From the Home screen, tap . A list of recent calls is displayed. 2. T ouch the call you want to save to People. 3. The call detail page is displayed. T ap save . 4. T ap new contact to add as a new contact or tap an existing contact to edit manually .

30 Section 4: Entering T e xt This section describes how to select the desired text input method when entering characters into y our phone. It also describes the predictive text entry system th at reduces the number of key strokes associated with entering text.
Entering T ext 31 Ke y s Y ou can enter characters into your phone using the on-scr een portrait or landscape keyboard. In both formats , the keys are associated with alphabetic letters, special characters, or numbers, as shown in the following layouts.
32 Using the k eyboard This phone offers th e convenience of an on-screen keyboard. Use the keyboard to type letters, numbers, punctuation, and other special characters into text ent ry fields or other applications. The following keys perform special fun ctions when entering te xt.

36 Section 5: P eople This section allows you to manage your contacts by storing their name, number , email, and other in formation in your phone using the People feature. Impor ting SIM Contacts to Y our Phone Y ou can import all contacts from your SIM card to your phone.
People 37 4. T ap name then tap the First name and Last name fields and use the on-screen keyboard to enter names for each entry . Y ou can also scroll down to enter additional informati on ( Company , Middle name , Nickname , Tit le , Suffix ). For more information, refer to “Entering T ext” on page 30.

People 39 corporate email account login because th ey are maintained separately and for diff erent groups of people. This device can synchronize with multiple accounts suc h as Windows Live, Outlook, Go ogle, and Facebook. When you synchronize your phone with t hese accounts, each account creates a separate contact ent ry in the Contacts list.
40 The contact is now “unlinked” and no longer displays in the merged record screen. Synchronizing Accounts From the Accounts menu you decide if you want applications to synchronize, send, and receive data at any given time, or if you want the applications to syn chronize automatically .

42 Section 6: Multimedia This section explains how to use the multimedia features of your phone, including Music, Music Player , Video Player , Gallery , Camera, and Camcorder . Music and Videos This section explains how to access music, videos, podcasts, and radio on your phone.
Multimedia 43 may vary over time. On Xbox LIVE, Zune Pass allows for music streaming only and requires an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription (10 monthly song credits are still available for download on your PC, Windows Phone, or Zune media player). On your Windows Phone, the streaming feature requires wireless network access.

Connections 85 Conn ecti ng Blue toot h Devices The Bluetooth connection process allo ws you to establish trusted connections between your devi ce and another Bluetooth device. When you connect devices, they share a passkey , allowing for fast, secure connections while bypassing the discovery and authentication process.

92 Maps Depending on your location, you can use Maps to view basic, custom, and satellite maps. The M aps application also allows you to obtain real-time, GPS-enabled, turn-by-turn navigation instructions to destinations throughout most of North America and certain international desti nations.
