Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your Sams ung Messager™ II phone by activating your service, setting up your Voicemail, or getting an unders tanding of how this manual is put together .
5 Important!: Y ou must fully charge the battery the first time you use your phone, otherwise you could damage the batter y . 1. Insert the top end of the battery first, matching the gold contacts on the inside of the batter y to those on the phone. 2.
Getting Started 6 1. Plug the large end of the T ravel Adapter into a standard 120 V AC or 220 V AC wall outlet. Import ant! : For connection to an electrical supply not located in North America, you must use an adaptor of the proper configuration for the power outlet.
7 2. The phone begins searchin g for a network signal. 3. Once the phone finds a sign al, the time, date, and da y appear near the top of the di splay . 4. Y ou’re now ready to pl ace and receive calls. Note: If you are outside of your carrier’ s coverage or roaming area, the No Service icon ( ) appears at the top of the phone’s display .

9 Section 2: Understanding Y our Phone This section outlines some key features of your phone. It also describes the screen format and th e icons that will be di splayed when the phone is in use. 13 4. Headset Connector — Used to connect a headset or TTY device to your phone. (For more information, refer to “TTY Mode” on page 119.) Command K eys Functions for the soft keys are defined by wha t appe ars above each in the display . There are two soft keys, the L eft soft key ( or ) and the Right soft key ( or ).
Understanding Y our Phon e 14 End K ey • Press and hold the End key to turn on your phone. • Briefly press once to disco nnect a call. • Press to return to standby mode from any menu, or to cancel the last input. Send Key The Send key is used to ans wer calls, dial calls, and to recall the last number(s) di aled, received, or mi ssed.
15 3. The Auto Answer icon appears beneath the current date to indicate that t he Auto Answer function is ac tive. (For more information, refer to “Auto Answer” on page 119.) 4. The center portion of the di splay shows information such as call progress informatio n, messa ges, and photos.

17 Note: During a phone call, the display backlight dims after 10 seconds and turns off after 30 seconds to conserve battery power , regardless of the Backlight setting.
Understanding Y our Phon e 18 – Enter the Phone Lock Code (usually the last four digits of the pho ne number assigned to your S amsung Messager II). T he Security menu appears in the display . – Select Lock Phone ➔ Lock . “ Device lock mode set ” appears in the display , and you are returned to standby mode.

Understanding Y our Phon e 20 Camera Mo de Camera mode lets you activate your phone’ s camera to take pictures. In Camera mo de, you can also adjust the resol ution and appearance of your pictures. Note: For more information, refer to “Camera-Camcorder” on page 75.
21 Section 3: Call Functions This section provides procedures for making and answering calls. This section also describes features, such as call logs and call timers, that help you make calls and ma nage your call time. Note: The procedures in this section can be performed using the phone keypad or the QWERTY keypad.
Call Functions 22 4. When the second party answer s, press to connect al l three parties. Manu al Paus e Calling T o manually call a number with pa use(s) without stor ing it in your Contacts list: 1. In standby mode, enter the numb er you wish to call.
23 1. In standby mode, press a nd release the number key representing t he first digit of the desired Contact’ s speed dial number . 2. Press the number k ey representing the second dig it of the desired Contact’ s speed dial n umber .
Call Functions 24 If Voic e Dial is not sur e whic h name you said , it displays a choice li st of up to three names an d prompt s you with “ Did you say? ” followed by the first name o n the list. 4. Say “ Ye s ” to confirm the name or “ No ” to hear the next name, or use the keypad to select the corre ct name from the list.
25 Pause Dialing F rom a Contacts Entr y • If you voice dial a co ntact that contains 2-Sec P ause(s) simply wait fo r the pauses to pass and the dialing to complete.
Call Functions 26 Note: The Vibrate icon ( ) appears in the display when the call ringer is set to Vibrate . The Vibrate/Ring icon ( ) appears in the display when the call ringer is set to Vibrate/High . Call Answ er Select from t wo method s for answ ering calls.
27 T o ignore an incoming call: 䊳 While your phone is ringing, press the Ignore soft key. The incoming call is forwarded to Voicemail. In-Use Menu Y ou can access a number of menus and fea tures even while in a call. 1. While in a call, pre ss the Options soft key.
Call Functions 28 • T o compose and send a me ssage to the call er , press the Msg soft key . Th e Send Message screen appears in the di splay . (For more information, refer to “Create and Send T ext Messages” on page 53 or “Send Picture/Video Messages in Standby Mode” on page 56.
29 Missed Calls The last 90 missed calls (calls yo u did not answer) are stored in the Missed calls log. Review the Missed calls lo g for the time and date of the call , as well as other information. 1. In standby mode, press the Menu soft key , then select Calls ➔ Missed Calls .
Call Functions 30 1. In standby mo de, press the Menu soft key , then select Calls ➔ Call Timer . The following options appear in the display: • Last Call — Shows the duration of you r last call. • Outgoing Calls — Shows the number and total durat ion of all calls orig inated b y your phone si nce the l ast reset.
31 2. T o reset a timer other than Lifetime Da ta Counter , highlight the timer you want to reset and press the Reset soft key . 3. T o reset all timers except Lifetime Data Counter , press the Reset All soft key . 4. Press to exit the Data Counter screen.

Entering T ext 34 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired text entry mode when entering characters using th e phone keypad or the nested, QWERTY ke yboard-style keyp ad. Th is section also describes how to use the T9 pr edictive text en try system to reduce the number of key strokes ne ed ed to enter text.
35 Note: T9 Word does not support the QWERTY keypad, which does not need this function. • Abc — Enter letters, num bers, and symbols by using the QWER TY keypad or by repeatedly pressing each phone key until the desired character (as shown on the key) appears in the display .

43 Note: Y ou can enter multiple W aits to extend the length of a pause. For example, two consecutive Waits cause a total pause time of four seconds. Keep in mind that pauses count as digits towards the 32-digit maximum. T o add pauses to a Contacts en try number , do the following: 1.

45 6. Press or to save the ringer assignment to the selected Contacts entry . Saving a Number After a Call Once you finish a call, you can st ore the caller’ s number to your Contacts list. Note: If the call was incoming and Caller ID information was unavailable, then the Save option is also unavailable.
Understanding Y our Contacts 46 Add to an Existing Entr y 1. From t he Save screen, select Update Existing . The Update Existing screen appears in the display showing your Co ntacts li st with t he Go T o field and the first Contacts entry highlighted.
47 1. Follow either of the New Contact s entry procedures (see “Adding a New Contacts Entry” on page 40) until you enter a name for the entry. 2. After entering the Co ntacts entr y name, do not press or . Instead, highl ight the num ber fi eld to be assigned a Speed Dial num ber .

51 Memor y Info The Memory Info menu option lets you view the amount of memory you have used to store Co ntacts entries, as well as the memory remaining to store more Contacts entries.
@metro 52 Section 7: @metro With @metro, you can download fu ll featured app lications over the air including games, personaliz ed ring tones, pictures, and more. Y ou can send and receive instant messa ges and email, or browse the web to catch up on all the latest news.
53 Section 8: Messages This section explains how to send or receive different types of messages. This section also describes the featu res and functionality associat ed with messaging. Note: Although the procedures in this section are written for the phone keypad, you can also perform these procedures using the QWERTY keypad.
Messages 54 – Edit Send T o — Edit the recipient’ s number or email address. – Add Quick T ext — Insert p re-composed text in you r message. – Save As Draft — Save the me ssage to your Draft fold er . – Priority Level — Cho os e High or Normal .

Messages 58 9. Press the Options soft key to complet e the message te xt and set message send option s. The following options appear in the display: • Preview — View the pi cture/vi deo as the r ecipient will see i t. • Add Quick T ext — Add pre-comp utes text to your message.
59 3. Once a Picture/Video messa ge has been downloade d to your phone, the new Picture/Vi deo message appears in the display . If the message inc l udes a sound file, the phone begins playing it. Note: For more information on viewing and managing received picture messages, see “Inbox” on page 60.
Messages 60 Inbo x Received messages of all types (except Voicemail) are st ored in the Inbox . 1. In standby mode, press th e Messages shortcut (Down navigation) key or press the Menu soft key , then select Messages ➔ Inbox . The Inbox appears in the display showing a list of re ceived messages.

Messages 62 Select an option to p erform its function. Managing Outbox Messages 1. In standby mode, press th e Messages shortcut (Down navigation) key press the Menu soft key , then select Messages ➔ Outbox . Y our list of se nt messages appear in the display .
63 3. Compose your messa ge using either keypad, press the Options soft key, then select Save As Draft . “ Message saved ” appears in the display and your message is saved to the Drafts box.
Messages 64 3. Make any needed changes and press the Options soft key . The following options ap pear in the display: • Preview — Shows the message contents. • Add Quick T ext — Insert p re-compo sed text into your message text. • Save As Draft — Saves the ch anged me ssage to the D raft Box.
65 When you’re notified of a new voicemai l message by an alert tone and the new message icon , the following options pop: • Listen Now — Calls your voice m ailbox and lets yo u listen to your messages. • Listen Later — Returns you to standby mode where you c an choose to call your mailbox and review your messages at a later time.

87 • Fluorescent — Use this s etting when r ecordin g videos u nder fluor escent lights. 2. Select the Whit e Balance you wi sh to use. The ca mera viewfinder screen appears in the display with your selected White Bala nce applied. The next time you press the Came ra key ( ), the camera applie s the selected White Bal ance to your photo.
Camera-Camcorder 88 Tip: T o stop or disable the Self Timer without resetting it, press . Camcorder Settings Memor y 1. In camcorder mode, press the soft key , then highlight ( ) and select Memor y . The following storage options appear in the display: • Phone Memory — Stores videos in phone memory.
89 • Look here • 1,2,3! 2. Select the desired start sound. Y ou’re returned to the camcorder viewfinder screen. End Sound Choose from two different soun ds whenever you stop video recording. Aside from being a cool sound effect , End Sound acts as an audible reminder that your camcorder has stopped recording a video.
Camera-Camcorder 90 Brightness Brightness lets you te mporarily lighten the pictures you take or videos you record. Increasing th e Brightness (-4 – +4) lightens your pictures or videos (0 is normal). 1. In camera mode, pre ss the Navigation key Up or Down.
