Assembling 10 Install the SIM or USIM card and batt er y When you subscribe to a c ellular ser vice, you will rec eive a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, with subscription details, such as y our personal identification number (PIN) and optional ser vices.
Assembling 11 Inser t the batter y . 4 Replace the back cov er . 5 Charge the ba tter y Before using the devic e for the first time, you must char ge the battery . Y ou can charge the device with a tr avel adapt er or by connecting the device to a PC with a USB cable.
Assembling 12 When your batt er y is low , the device will emit a ● warning tone and display a lo w battery message. The battery icon will also be empty . I f the battery level becomes too low , the device will automatically power off . Recharge your battery to continue using your device.
Assembling 13 Plug the large end of the tra vel adapter into a pow er 2 outlet. Y ou can use the device while it is charg ing, but it ma y ● take longer to fully charge the batt er y . While the device is charg ing, the touch screen ma y ● not function due to an unstable power supply .
Assembling 14 Charge with a USB cable › Before char ging, ensure tha t your PC is turned on. Plug one end (micro-USB) of the USB cable into the 1 multifunction jack . Plug the other end of the USB cable into a USB port on a 2 PC. Depending on the type of USB cable you are using , it may take some time bef ore charg ing begins.
Assembling 15 Remove the back co ver . 1 Inser t a memor y card with the gold-coloured contacts 2 facing down. Push the memory card in the memor y card slot until it 3 locks in place. Replace the back cov er . 4 Remov e the memor y card › Before r emoving a memor y card, first unmount it f or safe remov al.
Assembling 16 F ormat the memor y card › F ormatting your memor y card on a PC may cause incompatibilities with y our device. F ormat the memory card only on the device. In Idle mode, select → Settings → SD card and phone storage → Unmoun t SD card → OK → F ormat SD card → F ormat SD card → Erase ev er ything .

If you turn on y our device for the first time , follow the on-scr een instructions to set up your device . T o turn off your device , press and hold [ ] and then select P ower off → OK .

Getting star ted 25 Use the t ouch screen Y our device ’ s touch screen lets you easily select items or per form functions. Learn basic actions to use the touch screen. T o avoid scra tching the touch screen, do not use ● sharp tools. Do not allow the touch screen t o come into contact ● with other electrical devices.

Getting star ted 27 Get to know the idle screen When the device is in Idle mode , you will see the idle screen. F rom the idle screen, you can view indicat or icons, widgets, shor tcuts to applications , and other items. The idle screen has multiple panels .

Getting star ted 29 › Add or r emove panels t o the idle screen Y ou can add or remov e panels of the idle screen to organise widgets accor ding to your pref erences and needs .

If you rotat e the device while using some fea tures, the inter face will automa tically rotat e as well . Getting star ted 31 In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 T ask manager → A c tive applications . The list of all the applications curren tly running on your device appears. T o close an application, select 2 End . T o close all active applications, select End all .
Getting star ted 32 T urn on or off the touch tone › In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Sound → A udible selec tion . Adjust the v olume of the ringtones › Pr ess the V olume key up or down to adjust the ringtone volume .

Getting star ted 35 › Activat e the F ind my mobile fea ture When someone inserts a new SIM or USIM card in your device, the F ind my mobile f eature will automatically send the contact number to specified recipients t o help you locate and reco ver your device .
Getting star ted 36 Enter t ex t Y ou can enter te xt by pressing keys on the QWERT Y keyboard, by selecting characters on the vir tual keypad, or by inputting handwriting on the screen. Y ou cannot enter te xt in some languages. T o enter text, you should change the writing language to one of the suppor ted languages.
Getting star ted 37 Select 1 → P or trait k eypad types and selec t a text input method. Y ou can select one of key input methods (QWERT Y or traditional keypad) or handwriting input methods. Enter text by selecting alphanumeric keys or writing on 2 the screen.

Communication 42 C ommunication Calling Learn to use calling functions, such as making and answering calls, using options av ailable dur ing a call or customising and using call-relat ed featur es. › Make or answ er a call Y ou can use the buttons or the touch scr een when you make, accept, end or r ejec t calls.
Communication 43 Answ er a c all When a call comes in, drag 1 right until it reaches the dot. When the device is ringing , press the V olume key to mute the ringtone . T o end the call, select 2 End call . Reject a c all When a call comes in, drag left until it reaches the dot.

Communication 45 V iew and dial missed calls › Y our device will display calls y ou have missed on the display . T o dial the number of a missed call, open the notifications panel and select the missed call.
Communication 46 Set call waiting Call waiting is a network f eature t o aler t you of an incoming call while you ar e on a previous call . This f eature is a vailable only for calls . In Idle mode, open the application list and select Settings → Call settings → Additional settings → Call waiting .
Communication 47 Messaging Learn to cr eate and send text (SMS) or multimedia (MMS) messages, and view or manage messages y ou have sen t or receiv ed. Y ou may incur additional charges f or sending or receiving messages while outside y our home ser vice area.
Communication 48 Add r ecipients of your message. 3 Enter phone numbers or email addr esses manually , ● separating them with a semicolon or a c omma. Select phone numbers or email addresses from the lists ● by selecting options under the recipient field.
Communication 49 Listen to v oice mail messages › If you have set missed calls t o be diver ted to the voic e mail ser ver , callers may leave v oice messages when you do not answer incoming calls .

Communication 52 Send an email message › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Email → an email account. Pr ess [ 2 ] → Compose . Add r ecipients of your message. 3 Enter email addr esses manually , separating them with a ● semicolon.
Communication 53 V iew an email message › When you open an email ac count, y ou can view previously retrieved emails offline or c onnec t to the email ser ver to view new messages. After r etr ieving email messages, y ou can view them offline. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Email → an email account.
Communication 54 Samsung Email Samsung Email allows y ou to connect your device t o your personal or company email ac counts. In Idle mode, open the application list and select Samsung Email . T alk Learn to cha t with friends and family via Google T alk ™ .
Communication 55 Samsung IM Learn to cha t with friends and family from any of the univ ersal instant messengers. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Samsung IM . Select 2 Add ac count → a messenger . Enter y our user name and passwor d to sign in.
Entertainment 56 Ent er tainment Camer a Learn how t o capture and view photos and videos. Y ou can take photos at r esolutions up to 2048 x 1536 pix els (3.2 megapixels) and videos at r esolutions up to 320 x 240 pixels . T o use this featur e, you must first inser t a memor y card .

Entertainment 59 Captur e a photo in Smile shot mode › Y our camera can rec ognise people’ s faces and help you take photos of their smiling faces . In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 Camer a to turn on the camera. Select 2 → Smile shot .
Entertainment 60 C ustomise camera settings › Before taking a photo , selec t → to access the f ollowing options: Option F unction Timer Select the length of the delay befor e the camera takes a photo . Resolution Change the resolution option. White balance A djust the colour balance accor ding to lighting conditions .

Select 6 to stop r ecording. The video is sav ed automatically . The camcor der may not be able to properly recor d videos to a memory card with a slow transfer speed .
Entertainment 63 Before r ecording a video , selec t → to access the follo wing settings: Setting F unc tion Guidelines Display the guidelines on the preview screen. Review Set the camera to display the rec orded video . Reset Reset menus and recor ding options.
Entertainment 64 V iew a photo › 1 In Idle mode, open the application list and select Galler y . Select a folder . 2 T o change the view mode, select 3 or at the top right of the screen. Select a photo (with no icon) to view . 4 While viewing a photo , use the following options: T o view more photos , scroll left or r ight.
Entertainment 65 Music Learn to list en to your favourite music while on the go with the music player . The music play er suppor ts the follo wing file formats: mp3, m4a, 3gp , mp4, ogg (C odec: mp3, vorbis(ogg), aac, aac+, eaac+, amr-nb/wb , wav , midi).

Connectivity 88 C onnec tivit y Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communications technology capable of ex changing information over a distance of about 10 m without requiring a ph ysical connection. Y ou do not need to line up the devices to beam inf ormation with Bluetooth.

T ools 102 T ask manager With the task manager , you can view currently running applications and memor y information. In Idle mode, open the application list and select 1 T ask manager .
