CD-R Discs • Depending on the disc recording device (CD-Recorder or PC ) and the condition of the disc, some CD-R discs may not be playable. • Use a 650MB/74 minute CD-R. Avoid CD-R media, as they may not be playable. • If possible, do not use CD-RW (Rewritable) media, as they may not be playable.

To open the remote control cover , push the top of the cover , then slide downward. 10 Insert Remote Batteries The remote control can be used up to approximately 23 feet/7 meters in a straight line. It can also be operated at a horizontal angle of up to 30° from the remote control sensor .

• Make sure the colors of the speaker terminals match the colors of the connecting jacks. • Insert the black wire into the black (–) terminal and the gray wire into the gray (+) terminal. • Make sure the polarities (+ and –) are correct. JPEG File Playback Images captured with a digital camera or camcorder , or JPEG files on a PC can be stored on a CD and then played back with this DVD player . Slide Mode JPEG 23 Place the JPEG disc on the disc tray . • Each time the button is pressed, the slide moves backward or forward.

5 Minute Skip function 26 • When playing the DivX disk, you can play the file with extension of A VI only . • Among the available DivX audio formats, DTS Audio is not supported. • WMV V8 is not supported for WMV files. • When burning a subtitle file to a CD-ROM with your PC, be sure to burn it as an SMI file.

Skipping Scenes/Songs DVD VCD MP3 DVD DVD VCD MP3 Briefly press . • Each time the button is pressed briefly during playback, the previous or next chapter , track, or directory (file) will be played. • During fast playback of a CD or MP3-CD, sound is heard only at 2x speed, and not at 4x, 8x, and 32x speeds.
Repeat Playback Repeat playback allows you to repeatedly play a chapter , title, track (song), or directory (MP3 file). Press REPEA T button. • Each time the button is pressed during playback, the repeat playback mode changes as follows: DVD VCD CD MP3 JPEG • Repeat playback operation is not possible with version 2.
A-B Repeat Playback • The A-B Repeat function will not work on an MP3 or JPEG disc. 2 Press Cursor button to move to REPEA T PLA YBACK ( ) display . • For a VCD or CD, press INFO button once. 1 Press INFO button twice. 32 OPERA TION Angle Function This function allows you to view the same scene in different angles. Zoom Function This function allows you to enlarge a particular area of the displayed image. 34 OPERA TION Bonus Group / Navigating Pages Some DVD-Audio discs have an extra ‘bonus’ group that requires a 4-digit key number to access. See the disc packaging for details and the-key number . Bonus Group When you play a DVD-Audio disc that has a bonus group, the key number input screen appears automatically .
35 Selecting Audio/Subtitle Language • Depending on the number of languages on a DVD disc, a different audio language (ENGLISH, SP ANISH, FRENCH, etc.) is selected each time the button is pressed. 2 Press Cursor , buttons or numeric buttons to select the desired audio language.
36 Moving Directly to a Scene/Song • The selected file will be played. • An MP3 or JPEG disc cannot be moved from the disc information screen. • When playing an MP3 or JPEG disc, you cannot use , to move a folder . To move a folder , press (Stop) and then press , .

Setting the Delay T ime If the speakers cannot be placed at equal distances from the listening position, you can adjust the delay time of the audio signals from the center and rear speakers.
54 Df: The distance from FRONT SPEAKER Dc: The distance from CENTER SPEAKER Ds: The distance from SURROUND SPEAKER Ideal CENTER SPEAKER placement It is desirable to place all speakers within this circle. Ideal SURROUND SPEAKER placement SETUP • You can set the delay time for C between 00 and 05mSEC and for LS and RS between 00 and 15mSEC.

Adjusting Front/Rear Speaker Balance • You can select between 00 and –06 and OFF. • The volume decreases as you move closer to –6. Adjusting Center/Rear/Subwoofer Speaker Level • The volume level can be adjusted in steps from +6dB to –6dB.
57 Setting the DRC (Dynamic Range Compression) You can use this function to enjoy Dolby Digital sound when watching movies at low volume at night. 12 In Stop mode, press MENU button. Press Cursor button to move to ‘Audio’ and then press ENTER button.
58 Sound Field (DSP)/EQ Function DSP(Digital Signal Processor) DSP modes have been designed to simulate different acoustic environments. EQ: You can select from ROCK, POP, or CLASSIC, depending on the genre of music. • "DSP" appears on the display panel.
59 Dolby Pro Logic II Mode You can select the desired Dolby Pro Logic II audio mode. Press PL II MODE button. PRO LOGIC II • MUSIC: When listening to music, you can experience sound effects as if you are listening to the actual performance. • CINEMA: Adds realism to the movie soundtrack.
60 Dolby Pro Logic II Effect This function works only in Dolby Pro Logic MUSIC mode. 12 • You can select between 0 and 7. • You can select between 0 and 6. 34 • PANORAMA: This mode extends the front stereo image to include the surround speakers for an exciting "wraparound" effect with side wall imaging.
61 Listening to Radio You can listen to the chosen band (FM, AM broadcast stations) by using either the automatic or manual tuning operation. 2 1 • The selection toggles back and forth between "FM ➝ AM" each time the TUNER(BAND) button is pressed.
62 Presetting Stations To tune in to a preset station, press on the remote control to select a channel. • Refer to Step 2 on page 63 to automatically or manually tune in to a station. 2 1 • Each time the button is pressed, the band switches between "FM ➝ AM".
About RDS broadcasting • RDS is not available for AM broadcasts. • RDS may not operate correctly if the station tuned is not transmitting RDS signal properly or if the signal strength is weak. • If searching finishes at once,“ PS ”,and “ RT ” will not appear on the display.
PTY (Program T ype) indication and PTY -SEARCH function 64 To search for a program using the PTY codes Before you start, remember... • The PTY Search is only applicable to preset stations. • To stop searching any time during the process, press PTY SEARCH while searching.
65 Listening to DAB Stations You can receive a DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) broadcast with clear CD-quality audio and text captions. However, because DAB broadcasting is still in testing phase, future proof digital radio tuner . Press TUNER/BAND to select " DAB ".
66 Remote Control Unit 2 1 • Each time you press the button, the mode changes as follows: FM ➝ MW ➝ DAB . • Press to select the service and press to change the ensemble. Select the service. Press TUNER/ BAND to select " DAB ". Main Unit 2 1 • Press to select the service.

69 Convenient Functions • The remaining time before the DVD player will shut itself off is displayed. • Pressing the button again changes the sleep time from what you have set earlier. To confirm the sleep timer setting, press SLEEP button. • "SLEEP" will be displayed.
70 MISCELLANEOUS • Each time the button is press, the brightness changes as follows: SLIGHTLY DARK ➞ DARK ➞ BRIGHT . TITLE CHAP PRGM RDS RT ST TUNED kHz MHz Adjusting Display Brightness You can adjust the brightness of the display on the main unit so it won't interfere with your movie viewing.
71 Operating a TV with the Remote Control • The remote control may not work on some brands of TVs. Also some operations may not be possible depending on your brand of TV. • If you do not set the remote control with the code for your brand of TV, the remote control will work on a Samsung TV by default.

Notes on T erminology Recorded onto some DVD discs are scenes which have been simultaneously shot from a number of different angles (the same scene is shot from the front, from the left , from the right , etc.). With such discs, the Angle button can be used to change the angle of view for specific scenes.
