Getting Started 1 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using yo ur phone by configuring your hardw are, activatin g your service, and then setting up your voice mail. Understanding T his User Manual The sections of this manual genera lly follow the features of your device.
2 T ext Con ventions This manual provides co ndensed information about h ow to use your device. T o make this possible, the following text conventions are used to represent o ften-used steps. Arrows ( ➔ ) are used to represent the sequenc e of selecting successive options in long er , or repetitive, procedures.

4 Installing a microSD Car d T o add additional memory t o your phone, y ou can insert a microSD TM card int o the memory c ard slot, lo cated to t he left of the SIM card slot. Use the following in structions and illustrations to properly install a micr oSD card.
Getting Started 5 Installing the Ba tter y T o install the battery: 1. Insert the battery into the opening on the back of the phone, making sure t he metal connectors alig n (1). 2. Press the batt ery down until it clicks into place (2). Make sure the battery is properly in stalled before re placing the cover .
6 Charging the Batter y Y our phone is powered by a re chargeable Li-ion battery . Use the travel adapter t o char ge the batte ry , and use only Samsung approved batt eries and chargers. Note: Y ou must fully charge the batt ery before using your phone for the fi rst time.
Getting Started 7 Low Ba tter y Indicator When the battery is weak and only a few minutes of talk t ime remain, a warning tone sounds, the “Low Battery” message repeats at regular intervals on the display , and the empty battery icon ( ) blinks. The backligh t turns off to conserve the remaining battery power .

Understanding Y our Phone 9 Section 2: Understanding Y our Phone This section outlines some key f eatures of your phone. It also displays the screen an d the icons that are displa yed when the phone is in use. F eatures of Y our Phone Y our phone is lightweight and easy to use .
10 The following items can be found on your open phone as illustrated on the previous page. 1. Main Display : This screen displays useful information needed to operate y our phone. 2. Navigation key s : This key allows you to scroll through phone menu options and provides a shortcut to phone functions fro m standby mode.
Understanding Y our Phone 1 1 1 1. Power On/Off/Menu Exit key : Ends a call. Press and hold this key for a fe w seconds to power your phone On or Off. While in the main menu, it re turns the phone to standby mode and cancels your input. When you receive an incoming call, press to rejec t call.
12 • Scroll up or down to navi gate through the different men u options. • Turn on the display when the pho ne is closed ( press and hold these keys). • Lower or i ncrease vol ume when the Music Playe r is active . If you are play ing music and the bac klight goes out, pres s this key to re-d isplay the m usic player sc reen.
Understanding Y our Phone 13 Indicator Icons This list identifies the symbol s that ap pear on your phone’s display and Indicator area: Shows the received signa l strength. The greater the number of bars, the st ronger the signal. Displays the level of your battery .
14 Note: The default phone profile is Normal. The profile is editable and the d isplayed icons may v ary according to the setting. Displays whe n a push-message is receive d from the W AP server . Displays when a new Ov er the Air (OT A) software update file is received.
Understanding Y our Phone 15 Command K eys There are several command key s that you can use to navigate your phone. These keys are re ferenced throu ghout this user manual. Soft K eys There are two soft keys: the left soft key and the right soft key .
16 • In the Idle screen, press the right soft key to open the Menu screen. • When in a menu m ode, the right soft key function is Back . Clear K ey The Clear key can be used for the following functions : • If you enter an incorrect character, briefly press it to backspac e and delete the character .

20 Section 3: Entering T e xt This section outlines how to select the desired text in put mode when entering c haracters into yo ur phone. It als o describes how to use the T9 predictive te xt entry system to reduce the number of key strokes associated with entering text.
Entering T ext 21 Changing the T ext Input Mode When you are in a field that holds charac ters (such as in a text message), the text input mode i ndicator displays at the top right corner of the screen. Use the f ollowing steps to change the text in put mode: 1.

24 Using the Symbols Input Method The Symbol input method enables you to insert symb ols and punctuation marks into text. 1. T o enter symbol mode, pres s and hold or press Options ➔ T ext Mode ➔ Symbols . 2. Use the Navigation keys to selec t an on screen symbol group.
Call Functi ons 2 5 Section 4: Call Func tions This section describes how to ma ke or answer a call. It also includes the fe atures and functi o nality associated with making or answering a call. Making a Call When the Idle screen dis plays, enter the area code and phone number , and press .
26 Manual Pause Dialing When you call auto mated systems, you are often required to enter a password or account numbe r . Instead of manually entering the numbers each time , you can dia l the numbers along with special charact ers called pauses . For more information, ref er to “Adding Pauses to Contact Numbe rs” on page 49.
Call Functi ons 2 7 Making a Call from the Addr ess Book Y ou can store phone numbers that you use regula rly on the SIM card or in the phone’s memory . These entries are collectively called the Address Book. Once a number is stored in the Addres s Book, you can dial it by pressing a few keys using the Speed Dial f eature.

Call Functi ons 2 9 Saving a Missed Call to Y our Address Book T o save a missed call entry to your address book, use the following steps: 1. In Idle mode, p ress and select Missed Calls . – or – Press Menu ➔ Calls ➔ Mi ssed calls . 2. Scroll through the list of missed calls.
30 3. Use the Navi gation ke ys to select Delete and press Select or . 4. Select the items to delete: • Selected : Delete only se lected call entries. • All : Delete all mi ssed call entr ies. 5. At the Delete ? prompt, press eithe r Y es to confirm the deletion or No to cancel.

32 2. Y ou can later reactivat e this call whenever you want by pressing Resume . T o make a new call while a call is in progress: 1. While on a call, press Options , highlight Hold and press Select or . 2. Enter the new phone number you want to dial or look it up in the Address Book.
Call Functi ons 3 3 Note: Noise Reduction is turn ed on in a voice call by default. If speaker , wired head set or Bluetooth headset is used, Noise Reduction will be turned off. Noise Reduction will need to be re-enabled in subsequent voice calls. T o re- enable in a call, press Options ➔ Noise Reduction on .
34 Using the Speak er phone During an Activ e Call While in an active call, it is possible to enable the speakerphone feature. 1. Dial the number and then press . 2. Press the Spkr on key to ac tivate the speakerphone when the call is answered. 3. Use the Vo l u m e keys (located on the left sid e of your phone) to adjust the volume.
Call Functi ons 3 5 Enter the first few letters of the conta ct into the Search field which then highlights the closest match in the Address Book list. 4. Press View . For further details about the Addr ess Book feature, see “Finding an Address Book Entry” on pag e 49.

Silent Mode Silent mode is convenient when you want t o stop the phone from making noise, for example, in a theater . ■ In Idle mod e, press and hold until the phone vibrates.

42 Note: The maximum number of Groups is 130 — 100 Groups are controlled by the Admi nistrat or and 30 Groups are controlled by th e phone user . There can be u p to 250 members in Administrator groups and up to 30 membe rs in User groups, wh ich in cludes the Group’s creator .

44 Calling a Group For more information, refer to “Making an EPTT Call” on page 45. EPTT Settings The following PPT settings are available: • Mute Incoming Call : Y ou can mute incoming calls whe n the phone is set to sil ent or n ever. • Vibrate Alert : Enable or disable vibra te alert.

46 Call W aiting While on an EPTT call you cannot receive an incoming EPTT call. Y ou will be notified with a Missed Call message after finishing the original call. While on an EPTT call you are notified of incoming cellular calls. Accepting the incoming cellular call places th e EPTT call on hold.

48 Saving a Num ber from the Idle scr een 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Contacts ➔ Add New Contact . The Create co ntact screen displays . 2. Highlight the Picture field to assign a photo or press Options to take a new photo. 3. Highlight the First Name and Last Name fields and us e the keypad to enter name s for this contact.

50 Depending on your particular SIM card, the maximum number of phone numbers the SIM card can store and how the y are stored may differ . 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Contacts ➔ Contacts . 2. Use the Up or Down Navigation key to locate a contact entry .

54 Checking the Address Book’s Used Space Y ou can check how many names and numbers are store d in the Address book, in both SIM card and the phon e memory . Y ou can also see the capacity of both memo ries. ■ In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Contacts ➔ Address Book Settings ➔ Used Space .
Messaging 55 Section 7: Messaging This section describ es how to send and receiv e different types of messages. It also includes t he features and functi onality associated with messaging.

60 Note: When storing an Address Book entry into the SIM ca rd, only the Name, Number , Group, and Slot location display initially . T o save additional information for a partic ular contact, such as oth er phone numbers, or e-mail, it is important to add new fields to that Contact informa tion.

64 Used Space The Used Space option d isplays the memory used for v arious types of messages (Multimedia, T ext, Push, Con figuration) as well as the available or remaining memory .
Connections 65 Section 8: Connection s This section describes the va rious connection s your device can make, including acce ssing the Internet wi th your browser , Bluetooth, and Connec ting to your PC. Web Web is your acces s to the mobile web. This section explains how to navigate the web bro wser and introduces you to the basic features.

Connections 67 Enter a URL Y ou can access a website quickly by ent ering the URL. Websites are optimized for viewing on you r phone. T o enter a URL and go to a particular website, fo llow these steps: 1. In Idle mode, p ress Menu ➔ Web ➔ Options ➔ Enter URL .

Connections 69 Changing the WAP Profiles Y ou can create and customize the profile set tings for connecting your phone t o the network. These network s ettings are required to use the W AP browser or to s end MMS, or Email messages.
70 •H o m e U R L : enter the URL addres s of the page to use as your homepage. • Gateway Address (WAP only): The gateway address of the proxy server . • Proxy Address (HTTP only): Th e proxy ser ver address and port. • Secure C onnectio n (WAP only): Determines if the c onnection will foll ow a secure protocol.
Connections 71 Activation The activation option allo ws you to use the Bluetooth features available when Bluetooth is activated. When the Blu etooth is deactivated, you cannot send o r receive information vi a Bluetooth.

Connections 73 Synchronizing with Windows Media Play er Ensure that Windows Media Player is installed on your PC. 1. From the Idle screen, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Connectivity ➔ Select USB Mode ➔ S amsung Kies to make sure Samsun g Kies is set as the USB mode.
74 Section 9: Multimedia This section explains h ow to use the mult imedia features of your phone, which includes Music Player , Video Player , Gallery , Camera, and Camcorder . Music Player The Music Player is a n applicati on that can pl ay music files.
Multimedia 75 • Repeat mode : Repeat the currently ac tive song or replay each song in the curren t list and, when the last song in the list ends, replay all of the songs in the listed order . • Shuffle on/off : Turn shuffle On or Off. Whe n turned on, t he current list of songs are randomly shuf fled for playback.
76 3. Press Options ➔ T ransfer to Bluetooth headset. 4. Highlight a song and press to play the song. The song plays through the Bluetoo th headset. Playing Music while Using the Phone The Music Player allows you to play music in the background while performing other tasks on your phone.
Multimedia 77 Using Playlists Playlists are used to assign so ngs to a list of preferred media that can then be grouped into a list for later playback. T hese Playlists can be created via either the han dset’s Music Player options menu or from within a 3rd party music application (such as Windows Media Player) and then downloaded to the handset.
78 Remo ving songs f rom a Playl ist T o remove songs from an existing playlist: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Music Player ➔ Playlists . 2. Highlight a previously cr eated play list and press Options ➔ Remove T racks . 3. Press to place a check mark next to the songs you want to add to the playlist or All .
Multimedia 79 9. When Media Player displays the Sync completed message, it is no w safe to unplug t he USB connector from the handset. Note: The Music Player does not necessarily support all features of a pa rticular file fo rmat nor all the variat ions of those formats.
80 2. A picture of your fac e should appear in the front dis play . Press the speaker key to take a pic ture. Note: For best results, hold the phone at eye level when using Self Shot. 3. When you are finished, open the phone and it will be in camera mode.

Opti ons are: • Single : T ake a single photo and view it before returning to the shoo ting mode. • Continuous : T ake consecutive photos by pressing and holding the Camera ke y . • Panorama : The device creates a panoramic still shot by combining multiple images.
82 Effects : Choose a cus tom colour tone for your photo. Choose from the following: • None : Automatically adjust the photo for the best quality available. • Black and white : Remove all colour and display the photo as grayscale/black and white. • Sepia : Adds a sepia tint to the pictu re to make it look like an old photograph.

86 Camcorder Options After Recording a Video After you have recorded a video: 1. Press Options to select various options. Highlight an option and press . The following o ptions are available: • Rec ord another : Record a nother vid eo. •P l a y : Use the Me dia Play er to view t he video.

My Download 89 Section 10: My Do wnload This section includes information on both on-boa rd and purchased applications. In the My Download menu, you can access Applicat ions, Audio, Games, Pictures, Video, Ot her Files, Albu ms, Music, Playlists and Used Space.

My Download 91 Pictures Options If you highlight an image but do no t open it, press for the following options: • Vie w : View th e graph ic. • Send via : send the picture in a Message or via Bluetooth. • Set as : Set the currently selected graphic to display as Ma in Display , Front Display, or assign to a Caller ID.
92 Used Space Use this option to view the memory usage on yo ur phone and on an optional memory card, if installed. Y ou can also view the files stored in each folder and dele te unwanted files. Y ou can also view the total available me mory on your phone and memory card.
