3 Getting to know your phone Antenna The antenna is a device fo r transmitting and receivin g sig nals. The shape and size of the antenna is determined, in pa rt, by the frequency of the signals that they receive. An antenna makes the call so und clearer when it i s fully extended.
4 Headset connector This is where the option al hands-free headset is conne cted. The headset includes an earbud and microphone in a convenient, lightweight un it so you can talk without using your hands. •Before inserting the hands-fre e headset connector to your phone, gently pry open the top of the cover to expose the headset connector .
5 Send key The key perf orms several useful functions: •Press once to answer calls. •Enter a number and press once to connect a call. •Press twice in standby mode to redial the last recent call number . Navigation The Navigation key allows you to locate d ifferent menu options by p ressing in the appropriate direction.
6 Display screens Y our phone has two display screens: The display screen on the front of your phone is comprised of three a reas: •An upper line of stationary icons •The middle area showing the t.
7 Service indicator: This icon indicates a call is in progress. When the phone is calling a number , this icon will flash until the call is connected. No service indicator: This icon indi cates your phon e cannot find a signal because you’re outside a service are a.
8 Ringer silent: This icon indicates that yo ur phones ringer is set to silent. GPS (911 only): This icon represents Global Posi tioning Service (GPS) for 911. GPS: This icon indicates GPS i s on for location. Silent mode: This is the icon for silent mode.
9 Removing the battery T o remove the battery from your phone: 1. T urn t he phone off by p ressing and holdin g . 2. Push the battery release latch up and pull the batt ery away from the latch. 3. Lift the battery away from the phone. Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable standard Li-Ion battery .
10 T ravel adapter Use the adaptor outlet to connect your phone to a wireless data device or a hands-free ca r kit (both so ld separately). The adaptor outlet is located at t he bottom of the phone. Using the travel adaptor The travel adaptor allows you to charge your phone’ s battery from any standard 110/220 free volt AC wall outl et.
11 The empty battery icon T wo to three minutes before the battery ch arge level gets t oo low to operate the phone, the battery sensor will let you kn ow by blinking an empty battery icon ( ), and sounding a tone. If you contin ue to operate th e phone without charging the battery , the phone wi ll automati cally turn off.
12 Y our phone’ s modes Answer mode With this option activated, you can sel ect how you want to answer your phone when you receive an incoming call. Input mode Use input mode to enter text, numbe rs and symbols into various screens. Lock mode When you lock your phon e using the Lock Mode me nu option, you restrict phone usage.
13 Standby mode Standby mode is the fundamental state of you r phone once your phone has found service. Y our phone goes into standby mode: 1. After you power it on . 2. When you press after a call, if your phone is on. When in standby mode, you will see: 1.
14 2. The vibrate icon appears on t he display . T o change the setting: 1. Press the down arrow located on the le ft side of your phon e to adjust the ringer volume. 2. Y our optio ns are: Silent, 1 beep, Vibrate, Vi b+ R in g , Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5.
15 Getting Started Getting service Y ou must contact your se rvice provider and follow t heir instructions for obtaining service for your ph one. We suggest that you read this user guide to fully understand the services that your phone supp orts. T urning your phone on T o turn your pho ne on: 1.
16 T urning your phone off T o turn your phone off: 1. Press and hold for more t han two seco nds. 2. The display screen and the backlight go off. Note: If your phone is on, and is press ed for less than one second, the phone will not power off. This feature prevents your phone from being turned off accidentally .

21 Accessing menus using shortcut numbers All main menus, menu levels, and menu content i tems are assigned numbers. All menus and their cont ents can be acc essed using these “Shortcut” nu mbers. The following steps are a sample ex ercise to access your planner: 1.
22 Calls Outgoing T o place a call press t o power on your phone. The phone first shows a n animated sequence and the icons discussed earlier display , this indicates your phone is on. (No dial tone will be heard). This is called standby mode. 1. Enter the phone n umber you want to cal l (up to 32 digit s), by pressing the numeric keys.

25 •Erase Logs: The last 20 calls you ch ose to erase from your call log. •Call T imer: The talk time spent on your calls. Call timer Y our phone records (or logs), the amount of air time or talk time used for all calls. T o view Call T imer from standby mode: 1.
26 To t a l T otal air time is the cumulative amount of time the phone has been used since the total air time was last erased. Air time for all incoming and outgoing calls is saved here. This feature is no t intended for billing purposes. 1. In standby mode, pre ss to display the Main menu .
27 Erase total If you choose the Erase T otal option, the counter for all air times with t he exception of LifeTime, will be set to ze ro. The counter will begin counting the next time you make or receive a call. T o erase your total air ti me: 1. In standby mode, pre ss to display the Main menu .

Three way calling T o place a three way cal l: 1. Call the first part y , and press . Wh en connected, ask them to remain on the line, press and they will be placed on hold.
29 Phone Book Y our phone permits you to store up to 999 numbers and names in the Phone Book. Each entry can ha ve up to 5 a ssociated phone numb ers and two e-mail addresses. Each entry can contain up to 32 digits including hard pauses, with an associated name of up to 12 char acters.

32 Editing phone book numbers Once stored in the Phone Book, an entry can be changed quite ea sily . T o change a Phone Book entry: 1. In standby mode, press to display the Main menu . 2. Press for Phone Book. 3. Press for Find. 4. Press to highlight the entry requiring editing.
33 Adding pauses When you call automated systems (lik e banking services), you are often required to enter a passwo rd or account number . Inst ead of manually entering the numbers each time, you can store the numbers in your Phone Book separated by special characters cal led pauses.

If you stored the number using (har d) P pause(s), call the number from the Phone Book and wait for the appropriate prompt from the number you are calling (credit card numb er , bank account number , etc.). 3. Press to call the numb er . Manual pause calling T o manually call a number with pause(s) without storing to the Phone Book: 1.
35 7. Press . The ph one prompts Ye s or No. 8. Press to highlight your option. 9. Press to confirm (Y es) and erase the Phone Book entry , or press to cancel (No) the Erase command. Erasing your phone book Y ou can erase all the numbers stored in yo ur P hone Book.
36 Setting speed dial For each name entered in the Phone Bo ok, the option of designating a Speed Dial number is available. 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o display the Main menu . 2. Press for Phone Book. 3. Press for the Find. 4. Press to highlight your entry .

39 Messages Y our phone comes equipped with several ways to send and receive messages. Mobile originating SMS text messaging Note: Check with your service provid er to confirm a vailability o f this service. Y our phone is able to se nd and receive text messa ges.

41 1. Press to view the opt ions. 2. Press to highlight your choice. 3. Press to save. • ABC: This is the text entry mode. • T9 W ord: This is the predictive word entry mode. You can quickly and easily enter frequently used words. • Symbol: Symbol entry is used with numeric keys and associated symbols.
42 T9 ® word text entry T9 Word, or T9 for text on 9 keys, requ ires only one key press per letter , and recognizes the most commonly used word of a numeric sequence. For example, to enter the wo rd hello, you can spell ou t the word by pressing only five keys, 4-3-5-5-6.
43 4. Pressing permits selection from the options: Phone Book, T9 W ord, ABC, Symbol, com, edu, net, Save Address, and 123. 5. After finding an d entering the Send T o: information, press to go to the Message menu. 6. Enter your message data, (press to select your text entry mode), when finished, press to return to the Send New Msg menu.
44 Outbox Y our phone stores message s in Outbox, regardless of whether the message was successfully transmitted. If Do Not Save was not set in the Save Message setting under Msg Setup, you can review , resend , or delete any me ssage stored in the Outbox.
45 incoming messages until you erase the st ored messages from Inbox, Outbox or Filed Msg. Messages and lock mode Incoming messages are received e ven when your phone is in Lock Mode. The screen will display the time and date of the me ssage but you cannot acce ss the message.

W eb Alert Y our ph one alerts you w ith incoming browser mess ages. When a new message arrives, your phone will display a text notification together with an audible alert.
47 Y ou can preset a number of options fo r general settings or new messages. The message indicator is displa yed and remain s on the scree n until you listen to the new voicemail message, read the New BrowserMsg or T ext Msg.
48 Auto Save - automatically saves the created message to the Outbox after the message is transmitted. Entry Mode Y ou can navigate between Alphabet and T9 W ord (predictive keypad) for the default setting. Pres s to save the setting. Auto delete This option allows you to have your messag e automatically deleted after viewing it.
49 Receiving a message while on a call When you receive a message while you a re on a call, the Se nd New Msg screen displays two options: Ignore and View . The closed envelope icon is displayed. Y ou can easily review the new message w hile on the call by j ust pressing .

52 Mobile web Y our phone comes equipped with Wi reless Web Internet access through a MiniBrowser . The MiniBrow ser displays immediate in formation through your phone. Y ou can view specia lly designed versions of popu lar sites which include sports, weather , news, stock quote s, etc.
53 T o launch the MiniBrowser . 1. In standby mode, pre ss , or . 2. Press for Get in Web. 3. Press the left soft key image. Y our phone will begin its search to launch the MiniBrowser . 4. Once connected, the Home Pa ge (or the last page visited) , will be displayed.
54 The minibrowser start and end prompts Y our phone can be set to view a pr ompt each time you start or end a MiniBrowser session. Y ou have the op tion to change this default prompt setting. The default setting may differ as it is based upon the carrier’ s requirement.
55 Y ou can a ct on the options or links by using the soft keys. How the minibrowser keys work Navigation key: Use this key to find and select all of your optio ns. CLR: This key pe rforms two fun ctions: • It is used as a browser back-up key . Pressing it once back s you up one page.
56 MENU: This key can be used t o enter the MiniBrowser menu at any time. SEND: This key can be used to send a call. OK / messag e key for selecting a highlighted item. Using links Links have several purposes , including jumping to a di f ferent page, jumping to a different si te or even initiating a ph one call from some sites.
57 Planner The Planner allows you to add events in a calendar . They can be viewed at anytime. You can also set an aler t to remind you of your plans. 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o display the Main menu . 2. Press for Planner . 3. Press to highlight an option .
58 •Erase: Allows you to erase an ev ent •Erase all: Allows you to erase all scheduled events 5. Press to select the option of ch oice, and complete the exerc ise by following the prompts. Scheduler Scheduler allows you to view in calen dar format the current month, a past month or a future month.
59 2. Press f or Planner . 3. Press fo r Jump T o Date. 4. Enter the date yo u want then press . T o do list The T o Do List allows you to compile a list of items to be completed. Y our phone can store, prioritize and manage t wenty T o Do List items.

61 Alarm clock Y our phone has an Alarm Clock that can be set to go off once, or daily at a specified time. Once set, the Alarm Clock is easy to chang e or turn off completely . T o set the Alarm Clock: 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o display the Main menu .
62 Checking current time world wide 1. In standby mode, pre ss for the Planner . 2. Press for Wo r l d T i m e . The screen displays a world map. The city , country , ti me and date are indic ated by a longitude indicator . Y ou can navigate up/down, le ft/right to re ach the cit y and time you need.

66 If your phone is unable to find a signal after 15 minute s of searching, the Power Save feature is automatica lly ac tivated. If your phone is active, it periodically rechec ks service availabili ty or you can check it yourself by pressing any key .
67 Sounds Ringer options Y our phone p rovides a variety of rin ger options through the Sounds menu. These options allow you to customize yo ur ringer type and ringer volume settings in order to easi ly recognize a cer tain type of incomi ng call, message or scheduled event.
68 Ringer type Five monotone ringer types and ten melody tones can be found und er the ringer type option in the Sounds menu. Ringer type — call s T o activate, view or change the ringer type for calls: 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o display the Main menu .

70 Key beep Key Beep allows you to adjust the tone leng th and volume level that the keypad generates each time you press a key . The di splay icon shows up to 5 levels (the loudest setting). No bars indicate that the key be ep function is silenced. 1.
71 Alerts Y our phone will beep from ti me to time, this beep is called an ale rt beep. Alert beeps can easily be turned on or of f. Th is feature of fers the following options: Minute beep, Service, Conne ct, Disconnect, Fade, Roam, and Privacy .
72 Note: Y ou can press to return to the previous menu at any time. When a call experiences a failed or dropped cal l, a text message will display . Press to clear the prompt and return to standby mode. If the dropped call was an outgoing call from y our phone, you can redial the number automat ically by p ressi ng twice.

Note: You c an press to return to the previous menu at any time. Whisper mode This feature allows you to whispe r when you are talking to a caller .
74 Vo i c e k i t Y ou can call up to 20 stored names simp ly by speaking one of the names into the microphone. Vo i c e d i a l Y our phone features Voice Dial(ing). Us ing the V oice Dialing feature requires that you first program the phone to reco gni ze the name of the person you are calling.
75 3. Press for Vo i c e D i a l . 4. Press for Record . The phone will prompt you to say the name you want to record. 5. Wait for the beep and then say the name. For best resu lts, use names with at least two syllables, or use bo th a first and last name.
76 3. Press for Vo i c e D i a l . 4. Press fo r Erase All. 5. At the voice and screen prompt, pr ess to confirm that you want to Erase All of the entries. A screen prompt will display w hen the entries have been erased. 6. P ress a t any time to exit without removing any voice entries.
77 Note: Pressing the Navigation key left allows you to pause your recording. Pressing the Navigation key right allows you to re-record your memo. 5. Press to conf irm your memo.

While Call Screen is enabled, you will hear your callers’ messages a s they are recorded an d can hi t to “pick up” the important call.
79 Setup The following features allow you to perso nalize your phone. Location The settings allow you to turn the Location ON or 911 Only . When you first use your phone this option is set to 911 On ly . This option is au tomatically turned ON when you place a call to 911.

Data/fax Y our phon e is capable of sending and r eceiving digita l data and fax calls when connected to a computing de vice (laptop, desktop, ha nd held, palmtop, etc.) running Windows 95 , Windows 98, Wind ows 2000, Windows ME , Windows XP , or Windows NT .

83 Lock phone Locking the phone limits a ll outgoing calls except ca lls to 911 emergency and the three user -programmabl e emergency/se cret numbers. Y ou can lock the phone manually during use, or set the ph one to lock automatically when it is turned on.
84 Unlocking the phone Enter your phone’ s lock co de (last four digits of the phone number), and the phone is immediately unlocked. Calling in lock mode Y ou can place emergency cal ls using confidential numbers you program in lock mode.
85 3. Press for Change Lock . The screen pro mpts ENTER NEW CODE . Enter a new , 4-dig it lock code by pressing the keypad. You will be prompted to RE-ENTER NEW CODE. Enter the same 4-digit lock code. Note: Your phone does not allow viewing of the lock code unless you k now the lock code (this is for obvious s ecurity reasons).

87 4. Press to erase the phone’ s memory , or p ress to cancel the operation. Note: After a few seconds, a prompt Erased message will display and the phone will return to standby mode. Resetting your phone Resetting the phone returns all set up op tions to the factory def ault settings.
88 Auto answer With this option activated , your phone will automat ical ly answer calls after the specified number of seconds. This opti ons is useful when driving. If Auto Answer is set to Off the phone will not a nswer an incoming call. If you do not answer the call it i s automatically stored in the Missed Call log.
89 5. Press to save your option. 6. P r essing returns you to the previous screen. Language The language option on your phone can change the language of voice prompts, menus, and key-inpu t. T o change the language: 1. In standby mode, pre ss t o display the Main menu .
90 T o set Main Clock: 1. Press the to hi ghlight Main Clock. Press . 2. Enter the time (usin g the 12 hour f ormat) and date. Use for A.M. and for P . M. 3. When the desired setting displays, press to save. Note: You c an press to return to the previous menu at any time.
91 In-Use Menu Y our phon e includes bo th a standby menu and an In-Use menu. The In-Use menu is disp layed by pressi ng while the ph one is being used during a call. The In-Use menu options are: • Mute/Unmute - Mutes or (Un)mutes your end of a phone conversation so that the recipient can hear nothing except key tone.

Y our phone informs you of the current signal streng th by displaying a number of bars next to th e signal strength icon.
