Introduction 5 Intr oduction Congratulations on your purchase of the Samsung SCH- a610 mobile phone. The SC H-a610 offers a rich blend of f eatures such as a large, high-resolution swiv el displa y , PIM (P erson al Inf or mation Manager) functions, a built-in digital camera with flash, voice activated applications, and more.
6 Understand y our phone Antenna A v oid touching the antenna while the phone is on. Contact with the antenna affects call quality and may cause the phone to operate at a higher power le v el than necessar y .
Understand your phone 7 P ower save mode Nor mally , the LCD backlight is at full bri ghtness, dims after a minute of inactivity , and then tur ns off. With Po wer save enabled, the backlight starts out dim, then tur ns off afte r 15 seconds of inactivity .
8 Right soft key Functions for the right soft k ey ( ) are defined by what appears abov e it in the display . Some functions of the right soft ke y are as f ollows: • Press the right soft ke y ( ) Bac k to retur n to the standby mode from an y main menu.

Headset connector The headset connector is the input jack f or the optional hands-free head set. The headset includes an earbud and microphone in a convenient, lightweight unit so you can talk without using y our hands.
10 Microphone The microphone, located just beneath on the ke ypad, is used f or conv ersation, v oice setup, and recording vo ice memos. Alpha-Numeric keypad Use the alpha-numeric ke ypad to enter text, n umbers, and special characters. Speaker The speaker , located on the front of the flip, plays sounds such as ring to nes and aler ts.

14 Silent mode : Indicates your phone is in silen t mode. ringer is silenced for all alerts, incoming calls, and incoming messages. The phone alerts you of incoming calls, alerts, or messages by vibration and a flashing Service LED . Flash in use : Indicates the camera flash is set to On .

The Camera 41 Zoom in on a s ubject Y our camera has digital zoom capabil ities of up to x4. Pictures may appear some what grainy as y ou zoom in; this is a nor mal result of digital enhancement. 1. In camera mode, press the navigation left/r ight keys to zoom in and out on your subject.
42 P oint, click, and send a picture Snap a pictur e and send it to anyone with a compatible de vice in a few easy steps . Tip: Y ou can send a pix message to up to ten recipients. Separate each recipient’ s address or phone number with a space or comma in the Send to field of the pix message composer .
Calls 43 Calls The Calls menu retains information about Out going , Incom ing , and Missed Calls. Y ou can also view times f or your last call and the total of all calls. Outgoing calls The last 20 outg oing calls are stored in the Outgoing call log. Revie w the Outgoin g call log for the time and date of the call, as well as other inf orm ation.

Calls 47 Call timer View the duration of y our last call, total calls, and calls made during the l if e of your phone using the Call timer feature. Call timer is not for billing pur poses. 1. In standby mode , press the left soft ke y () Menu , then press , .
48 Caller ID Caller ID allows you to see who is calling you b y displaying the caller’ s number . If the ca ller’ s name and number are stored in your Phone Book, the name also appears. If you’v e assigned a picture to the Phone Book entr y , the picture you’v e assigned appears in the display as well.
Phone Book 49 Phone Book Up to 500 entries can be sto red in the Phone Book. Each entr y can hav e up to fiv e associated phone numbers and two e-mail addresses. Each phone number can be up to 32 di gits in length, including hard pauses, and associated names can be up to 22 characters in lengt h.

54 Edit Phone Book number s Once stored in the Phone Book, an entr y can be changed easily . 1. In standby mode , press the left soft ke y ( ) Menu , then press , fo r Find . 2. Use the navigation ke y to displa y the search method that you wish to use ( By Name , By Group , or By Entry ).
Phone Book 55 Add pauses Calls to automated systems (l ike banking services) often require a passw ord or account number . Instead of manually entering numbers each time, you can store n umbers to your Phone Book along with special characters called pause s.
56 5. When you’ re finished enter ing the number and pauses, press the ri ght soft ke y ( ) Save to store the numb er in your Phone Book. P ause dial fr om the Phone Book 1. If you stored the number using (two-second) T pause(s), simply recall the number from the Ph one Book.

60 Assign a picture to a Phone Book entry When you assign a picture to a Phone Book entry , the picture that you assigned to the entr y appears in the display when you receiv e a call from the entr y . 1. In standby mode , press the left soft ke y Menu , then press , .

Phone Book 63 One-touch dialing Memor y locations 001 through 009 are special O ne-T ouch dialing locations. Y ou can call the phon e numbers stored in the Phone Book from memor y locations 001 throug h 009 by pressing and holding a single ke y .
64 Messages T ake pictures on the go and send to V erizon Wireless camera phones or to any email address. Bef ore you send te xt messages, it’ s best to cover the basics of composing messages using the text entry mo des of Abc , Symbol , 123 , and T9 W ord .
