21 Getting to know your phone Antenna The antenna is a device for transmitting or receiving sign als. The shape and size of th e a ntenna is determ ined, in part, by the freque ncy of th e sign als that they receive. An ant enna makes the call sound clearer when it is fully extend ed.

23 LED ind icat or The LED indicator flashes to indicate an incoming call or message. When you have the phone clo sed and the ringe r set to off, the LED i ndicator will not ify you of an incomin g call or messa ge. • The LED indicator l ights mome ntarily w hen you p ower up the ph one.
24 Toggle The toggle allows yo u to locate diffe ren t menu options by pressing the appropriate arrow . When in standby mode the toggle can act as a hot key .
25 Getti ng Star ted Getting servi ce Y ou must contact the service carrier of your choice and follow their instruction s for obtainin g service fo r your Samsung N150 phon e. It is suggested that you read this user guide to fully understand the services that your phone supports.
26 Several ways to answer a call When you receive a call, the phone wil l ring and the phone icon is displayed on your screen. If the caller can be ident ified, the cal ler’ s phone number , (or n ame if p re-stored in your Phone Book), i s displayed.

30 Using your phone’s menus The phone of fers a range of functions t hat allo w you to ta ilor the ph one to your personal requiremen ts. These funct ions are arranged in menus and submenus. The menus an d submenus can be ac cesse d by toggling or usi ng shortcuts.
31 Accessing menus using shortcut numbers All main menus, menu le vels, and menu con tent items are assigned numbers. All menus and t heir contents can be accesse d using these “Sho rtcut” numbers. An example exercise f or setting the Connec t tone.
32 Your phone’s modes Answer mod e With this opt ion activated, your phone will allow you to select a spec ific mod e when you receive an inco ming call.
33 Silent mode The “Silent Mode” fe ature allow s you to instantaneously si lence the ringer when in stan dby mode. • With the pho ne in standby mode, press and ho ld for 2 seconds. “Ent ering S ilent Mode” displa ys brief ly . (The sil ent mo de ico n displays on the standb y screen.
34 Talk mode Y ou can place and an swer calls only when yo ur phone is turned on. When you are on a cal l your phone i s in T alk mod e. Pressing wi ll give you a list of the In-U se menu options.
35 The top l ine of the display s creen Display indicato rs (or icons) appear across the top of your phon e’ s displ ay screen. The signal strength and battery strength icons will always appear , but other icons di splay based upon you r phone’ s operating mode.
36 Roaming: Th is icon di splays when the phon e is outside your carrier’ s area and your pho ne is receiving service from another carrier’ s netwo rk.
37 Other phone icons Duplicate: This i con indicat es that a duplicate message was sent. E-mail: This icon rep resents an e-mai l address. Fax: This icon represents a fax numb er . File d Me ssage : This i con displays if a message has been filed. Home: This icon indicates re presents a n individual’s home n umber .
38 Using the batter y Note: Y our phone comes package d with a partially charged, rechargea ble standard Li-Io n bat tery . The phone can b e use d whi le th e bat tery is cha r ging , but mus t be f ully charged the first time you use yo ur phone otherwise the battery could be damaged.
39 Charging the battery Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable standard Li-Ion battery . Only use Samsung-approved adaptors and bat teries. These adaptors are designed to maximize b attery lif e. Using o ther adap tors will invalid ate your warra nty and may cause damage.
40 Caring for the battery Prot ectin g your batt ery The gu ideline s list ed below help you ge t the mo st out of your battery’ s performance. • Use only Samsung-approved batt eries and adaptors. These adaptors are designed to maximize ba ttery life.
41 Using the travel adaptor The travel adaptor allows you to charge your phone’ s battery from an y 110 volt AC stan dard wa ll ou tlet. Also , usin g the t ravel a dapto r allows yo u to make a phone call wh ile the battery is chargi ng.
42 Calls Outgoing T o place a call press to power on your p hone. The phone fi rst shows an animated sequence a nd th e icons di scussed earli er display , this i ndicates your phone is on. ( No dial tone w ill b e h eard). This is called sta ndby mode.
43 Missed Y our phone keeps a list of calls that you did not answer when the phon e was active and service avai lable. The phone indicates a missed call by displaying a text n otific ation o n the scre en.
44 Reviewing outg oing, i ncoming, or miss ed call s When a call log is displayed, press the numbe r associated with the call log to be connected. 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu. 2. Press for Calls . • Press the number associat ed with the call log to select an option: • Press for Out goi ng cal ls.
45 Keeping track of call activity Y our phone saves a record of calling act ivity that permits you to easi ly return calls . Y our phone ret ains th ese three call directories in memory: • Outgoing: The last 10 calls placed from you r phone. • Incoming: The last 10 call s placed to your phone.
46 Air time Y our phone records (or l ogs), th e amount o f air t ime or ta lk tim e used for all calls. Y ou can view this ti me from standby mode: 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu. 2. Press for Calls . 3. Press for Air Time . 4. T oggle to highligh t an option.
47 Total T otal air t ime is the cumulati ve amo unt of t ime the phone ha s been us ed sin ce the to tal a ir tim e was l ast era sed . Air ti me for all in comi ng and outg oin g call s is saved here. This feature i s not intended f or billing purposes.
48 Eras e total If you c hoose t he Era se T otal opti on, the c ounter fo r all air times w ith the exception of L ifeT ime, will be set t o “zero”. The cou nter will begin cou nting the next time you make or receive a call. T o erase your total air time.
49 Phone Book Y our phone permits you to st ore up to 100 numbers and names in th e Phone Book. Each ent ry can have up to 7 associated phone numb ers and one e-mail address. Each entry can cont ain up to 3 2 digits inclu ding hard pauses, with an associated na me of up to 12 charac ters.
50 Add entry Addi ng a phone number This menu allows you to add a phone numb er to your Phone Book, but as th e exercise progresses you will learn how to add further entr ies including a Name, C atego ry , Re lation a nd R ingtype, t oget her wit h the a bility to gen erate a n entry location number , and make a number secret.
51 5. Press to save the entry . The Phone B ook (Information) screen displays with the newly added numbe r highlighted in the Number field. The Name field remain s empty while the Entry, Secret, Cat egory, Relation and Ring Type fields cont ain generat ed info rmation.
52 Adding and changing a ring type T o set a d istinctive ring ty pe to a Phon e Boo k entry: 1. At t he Phone Book (informat ion) screen toggle to h ighlight RingType . 2. Press , the Rin gTy pe screen displays. T oggle to highlight an option. The opt ions show: I nactive, 5 monotone ringers, and 15 melodies.
53 Overwritin g existing name and num ber information It is possible, using the same techniques to automatica lly overwrite existing information using separate actions in both the name and number fiel ds.
54 Find name This opt ion allow s you to find a stored name (alphab eticall y) in th e Phone Book and place a call to that name. 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu.
55 Find entry This optio n allows you to f ind a stored entry by location numb er . 1. In stan dby mode, press to display the main menu . 2. Press for the Phone Book . 3. Press for Find Entry . 4. T oggle to highligh t a spe cific entry . 5. Press to select the en try .
56 Adding an e-mail address Use this method to add a new e-mail address to an entry in the Phone Book. 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu. 2. Press for Phone Book . 3. Press for Add E-mail . The Phone Book screen displays the highlighted w ords New Entry? 4.
57 Editing an existing e-mai l address Use this metho d to edit an existing e-ma il address. 1. In stan dby mode, press to display the main menu . 2. Press for Phone Book . 3. Press for Find Entry . The Phone Boo k displays. 4. T oggle to highlig ht the entry a nd press .
58 Adding pauses When you call au tomated systems (lik e banking services), you are often required to ent er a password o r account nu mber . Instead of manually ente ring the numbers each time, you can store the numbers in your Phone Boo k separated by special characters called pause s.
59 • “T” p ause: The letter “T” disp lays in th e num ber , meaning th at a “Timed” (2 second) pause wi ll occur at that point in th e calli ng sequence. Enter the digi ts that need to follow the pause (such as your account number). • Hyph en: Places a hyphen between characters.
60 Accessing your phone book during a conv ersat ion T o access your phone book during a conversation: 1. Press to display the In-Use menu. 2. Press for Phone Book. 3. Use your keypad to enter th e number associated with the Phone Book menu option t o locate the informat ion required.
61 Prepending a phone number The Prepend opti on permits you to add pr efix numbe rs such as area codes and network fe ature activati on codes to phone numb ers that are already stored in your Phone Bo ok or call log. T o Prep end a stored phone number: 1.

63 Adding a name ringer to your phone book entry Y ou can associate one of 20 different ringers (fif teen melodies and five monotones) to nu mbers stored i n your Phone Boo k. When yo u receive an incoming call f rom a nu mber matchin g an e ntry in yo ur Phone Book you r phone will play the associated ringer to announce the call.
64 Setting speed dial For each name entered i n the P hone Book, the o ption of designating a Speed Dial number is available. 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu. 2. Press for Phone Book . 3. Press for the Find N ame, or for Find Entry .
65 Storing incoming phone numbers at the end of a call T o store a phone nu mber after ending a call: Note: If the call was incoming, and Caller ID information was unavailable, then the store optio n wil l also be u navail able.
66 Shortc uts to storing p hone numbe rs Y ou can store a phone number by entering the number , and pressing . Follow the screen p rompts to designat e other info rmation.
67 Web/Minibrow ser Y our phone comes equipped with Wireless Web Internet access through a MiniBrowser . T he MiniBrowser displays immediate informat ion through your phone. You can view sp ecially designed versi ons of po pular sites whi ch include sports, weather , news, stock quotes, etc.
68 Launching the minibrowser Note: The first ti me you use the MiniBrowser , yo u will be prompted to go through a security setup process that takes approximately three to five minutes. Note: When the security key is i nitially sent to the carrier , a unique value is creat ed.
69 Exiting the web/minibrows er Press or close the phone’ s flip cover to exit the W eb. If the “Prompt to end” or “Prompt b oth ” option is selec ted in the MiniBrow ser setup ( ), a pro mpt asking if you w ant to end the MiniBrow ser call i s di splayed.
70 Navigating the web When you use the MiniBrowser , some of the keys on your keypad will operate differentl y than duri ng a normal phone call. These k eys are explained i n “How the minibrow ser works” o n page 64. The MiniBrow ser presents o n-screen items in an y of th e following ways: • T ext or nume ri c input .
71 C (CLR): This key perf orms two functions: • It is used as a browser back-up key . Pressing it once backs you up one pag e. Pressing and hold ing it do wn ba cks you up to the carrier’ s Home Pa ge . • It also clears entered text or numbers. When enteri ng nu mber s or text , pres s it to clea r the la st num ber , le tte r , or symbo l.
72 Using links Links have several purposes, including jumping to a different page, jumpi ng to a different site or even init iating a phone call from some sites. Links are shown inside of b rackets ( [ ] ), an d you can n ormally use the left soft key to select a link when it is h ighligh ted.
73 Schedule r Information features Information features allow you to add event s in a calendar format that can be viewed, and i f so requ ired alert you to these same events. How to acce ss inform ation fe atures 1. In stan dby mode, press to display the main menu .
74 How to schedule an event 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu. 2. Press for Scheduler . 3. Press for Today, the New Eve nt screen displays. (Pressing will offe r further optio ns. For exampl e: T9 Wor d, ABC, Symbol and 123 . T oggle to highli ght an option, and press to sele ct that opti on.
75 View m onth View Month allows you to view in calendar format the curren t month, a past month or a fu ture mont h. In View Month, the cu rrent date is h ighlight ed on the calendar . Days with schedul ed events are underlined. How to view an event 1.
76 Creati ng a to do li st ite m 1. In standby mode, press for the menu and Scheduler . Press for To Do List . An Add To Do screen displays. Complete the exercise by using steps 4 through 9 as indicated in “How to schedule an event” on page 68. Y ou can choose the toggle to set the priority for a To Do L ist item.
77 How to view, edit, add or erase a count down timer 1. In stan dby mode, press for the menu and Scheduler . Press for C ount Down . Countdown time rs display in order of the least amount of time passed since the countdow n commenced, and least amount of time remaini ng unt il the specifi ed dat e.
78 Calc ula tor Y ou can perform ca lculations, including additi on, subtra ction, multiplica tion and division using your phone. To perfor m a calculat ion Use to enter a decimal point, and to change th e sign for a number to a negative. 1. In standby mode, press for the menu and Scheduler .
79 Alarm Y our phone has an alarm clock th at can be set to go off once, or daily at a specifi ed time. Once set, the alarm is easy to change or turn off completely . T o set the alarm: 1. In stan dby mode, press to display the main menu . 2. Press for Schedule r .
80 Sounds Ring er o pti ons Y our phone provides a varie ty of ringer options through the Sounds menu. These options al low you to custo mize y our ringer type and ringe r volume settings in order to easi ly recognize a certain ty pe of incoming cal l, message or scheduled e vent.
81 Ringer volume — Call s Refer to “Ri nger volume” on page 74 for in structions on ope rating this op tion. Ringe r volume — Al arm Refer to “Ri nger volume” on page 74 for in structions on ope rating this op tion.

83 Key be ep Key Beep allows you to adjust the tone vol ume that the keypad generates each time you press a key . The display icon shows up to 8 levels (the loudest setting ). No b ars indic ate that the key beep f unctio n is sile nced. 1. In stan dby mode, press to display the main menu .
84 Alerts — Service Y ou can set the se rvice alert opti on to sound an alert when the pho ne goes in and out of service coverage areas. Refer to “A lerts — Minut e beep” on page 77 for instructions on how t o operate this opt ion.
85 Alerts — Roam When this opt ion is set to to “On”, the phone sounds a uniq ue tone wh en you leave your “home” service area when on a call. Refer to “Alerts — Minute beep” on page 77 for i nstructions o n how to operate thi s option.
86 Roam r inger When this opti on is set to “On”, your phone sounds a uni que tone when a call is received in a “roam” service area. (This feature is to “On” by defaul t). T o set the roam ringer alert on or off: 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu.
87 Display The fo llowin g feat ures offered under the Di splay me nu allo w you to custo mize your phone. • Control when, a nd fo r how long, yo ur backlig ht is ac tive. • Define a personal greeting of up to 12 characters. • Display your own phone number .
88 Banner This op tion allo ws you to ed it and perso naliz e the bann er di splaye d on the standby display screen. Note: E nter the personal greeting using the keypad, Press for T9 Word, ABC, symbol.
89 Language The language opti on on your phone can change t he language of voice prompt s, menus, and key-inpu t. T o cha nge the language: 1. In stan dby mode, press to display the main menu . 2. Press for Display . 3. Press for Languag e. 4. T oggle to hi ghlight the la nguage required .
90 Auto hyphen With th e optio n set to “Yes”, your p hone automati cally hyphenates numbers. For example: 972-761 -0000. T o set the Aut o Hyphen opti on: 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu. 2. Press for Disp la y . 3. Press for Auto Hyphen .
91 Voice d ial Y our phone features Voice Dial(ing). When on a digit al network, you can call up to 20 stored names simpl y by speaking one of the names into the microphone. Using t he V oice D ialing feature re quires that you fi rst prog ram the phone to recognize the name of the person you are calling.
92 4. Wait for the beep and then say the na me. For best results, use names with at le ast tw o syl labl es, or use both a first and l ast name. Th e phone stores the name as a “first” sample, and then prompts you to say the name again. 5. Respond to the pro mpt by repeating the name exactl y as you did t he first time.
93 Erase all T o erase all voice cal ling entries 1. In stan dby mode, press to display the main menu . 2. Press for Voice Dial . 3. Press for Erase All . 4. At t he voice p rompt and screen prompt, press to confirm that you wish to Erase Al l of the entries.
94 Games Y our phone’s software all ows you t o play the fol lowing games: • Flying Ti ght • Run for Money Flying tight T o play Flying tight : 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu. 2. Press for Games . 3. Press for Flying tight .
95 Key commands The fo llowin g optio ns are dis played pri or to the sta rt o f the g ame: Press the “up” arrow repeatedl y to keep the plane in the air . Press the “down” arrow repeat edly to lower the plane. Press to begin the game. Press to end the game.
96 Key commands The following options are displayed prior to the start of the game: Press the “ up” arrow re peatedly to move the cre ature upward. Press the “down” arrow repeatedly to lower the creature. Press to b egin the game. Press to end the game.
97 Setup The foll owing features al low you to perso nalize your phone. Auto re try With this option activat ed, your phone au tomatical ly retrie s the c all whe n a connectio n fails. De pendent up on your location , the number of raters may vary . T o ena ble Au to Retry .
98 Answer mod e With this option activat ed, your phone will allo w you to select a specific answer mode when you recei ve an incoming cal l. Your phone can be preset to answer when you do any of the followi ng: • By SEND key: You can answer the phone by pressing .
99 Set NAM Y our Samsung phone can store two NAMs (NA M stands for Numerical Assignment Module, and is essent ially your phon e number). This means that you can have two phone numbers on one ph one, and you can quickl y and easily switch your service back and forth between the two numbers using the NAM menu.
100 Set sy stem Y our Samsung phone allows you to se t the preferred system. Changing this setting affects your charges, so contact your service provider to determine the best roaming methods for you. T o select the system yo u want to use: 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu.
101 Data/fax Y our Samsung phone is capabl e of sendi ng and receivi ng digital data and fax calls when connect ed to a computing device (lapt op, desktop, hand held, palmtop, etc. ) running Windows 95, Windows 98, Window s 2000, Windows ME, or Wi ndows NT .
102 Receivi ng a fax 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu. 2. Press for Setup . 3. Press for Data /F ax . 4. Use the toggl e arrows to highl ight fax for next ca ll. 5. Press to save this opti on. In the Fax program on your PC set up Answer Mode .
103 Ending a fax or data call Some of the normal ways to end a call, like closing the phone, will not end a fax or data call. Al ways close the c onnection through the applicatio n on your computer .
104 Set network Y our phone is set to dig ital mode. Wh en in a weak sign al area you may wish to seek better coverage. Your phone allows you to do this, forcibly searching for analog service. T o set network: 1. In standby mode, press to displ ay the mai n menu.
105 Mail Kit Mail Kit allows you to create, send, read, and save yo ur messages. Y our phone receives three kinds of messages: voicemail, text, and browser messages. T o access Mail kit, press . Note: Contact your service provider ab out activating the sending an d receiving short message feature.
106 Creat ing SMS Text Messages 1. In standby mode, press to display Mail Kit . 2. Press for New Messages . The screen displays Send To : . 3. Press t o select fro m options. ( Phone Book , T9 W ord, ABC, Symbol, 123) . • Phone Book allow s you to search either by Nam e , Entry , or RelationSrc h .
