Getting Started 7 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to star t using your SCH-r300 phone by activating your service, setting up your Voicemail, or getting an understanding of how this manual is put together .

Lock M ode When the phone is in Lock Mo de, restrictions are placed on phone use. Y ou can rece ive calls and message s, but cannot place outgoing calls (ex cept for emer gency numb ers) until you unlock the phone.
Understanding Y our Phone 17 Enter/Exit Silent Mode Silences the tones your keypad makes when you press a key . T o enter Silent Mode: 䊳 In standby mode, pr ess and hold . “ Entering Silent Mode ” briefly appears in the display and your phone returns to standby mode.
18 Section 3: Call Functions This section provides procedur es for making and answering calls. This section also describe s features, such as call logs and call timers, that help you make calls an d mana ge your cal l time. Making a Call 1. With the phon e on, enter the n umber you wish t o call using the keypad.
Call Functions 19 The following pause options appear i n the display: • 2-Sec Pause — A 2-second pause after which d ialing resumes. •W a i t — A hard pau se (waits for inp ut from you) . 3. Use the Up/Down navigation or arrow keys to highlight the desired pause.

V oice Dialing The voice recognition capabi lities of your SCH-r300 are exceptional du e to advance d, speaker -independent technology . This means you do not need to “t rain” your phone to understand your voice.
Call Functions 21 If the recognized name has mu ltiple numbers stored for it (that is, Home, Work, Mobi le, and so on), Voice Dial displays the possible choi ces and prompts you with “ Which number? ” 5. Say one of th e following number ty pes: • “ Home ” • “ Wor k ” • “ Mobile ” Voice Dial dials th e specified number .
22 Answ ering a Call Incomin g When you receive a call, the phone displays one of the follo wing: • If the caller can be identified, the caller’ s number (or name if it’ s in your Contacts) appears in the display .

26 Call Timer View the duration of yo ur last call, total ca lls, and calls made during the life of yo ur phone using the Call timer feature. Note: Call timer is not for bi lling purposes. 1. In standby mode, press MENU ➔ Calls ➔ Call T imer . The Call T imer screen appears in the display wi th the first timer in the list highlighted.

Entering T ext 29 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the de sired t e xt entry mode when entering characters usi ng the phone keypad. This section also describes how to use the T9 predicti ve text entry syst em to reduce the number of key strokes need ed to enter te xt.
30 Using T9® Mode T9 Word recognizes commonly used words for the numeric sequence of key presse s and inserts the word into your message. T9 Word is much faster tha n the tradit ional method o f text entry (Abc) and requires only one key pres s per letter of the word that you’re spelling.
Entering T ext 31 Entering Symbols Enter symbols such as “@ ” or “%” into a text message. 1. While composing a text messa ge, press the Left soft key , use the Navigation key to h ighlight Symbols , then press . The first of three symbol screens a ppea rs in the display .
32 Section 6: Understanding Y our Contacts This section details how you can ma nage your daily contacts by storing their names and numbers in your Contacts list. Y ou can have your Contacts en tries sorted by name. Contacts Up to 500 entries can be stored in Contacts.

Note: The Lookup command sho ws the reques ted contact infor mation in the display but does not dial any phone numbe rs for the contact.

Y ou will be guided through the restoration process. Expir ed Apps Apps that were purchased based on the number of uses or time expire.

54 Listen to V oicemail Now Once you’ve received a new voicem ail message, you ha ve the option to ei ther: • Listen Now — Calls your vo ice mailbox and allows you to li sten to your messages. • Listen Later — Returns you to standb y mode where you can later choose to call your mailbox and review your messages.

MetroWEB 57 Section 9: MetroWEB This section outlines how to la unch MetroWEB, how to navigate to other pages on the web, an d how the keys on the keypad a re used with the web application.
58 MetroWEB soft keys At the bottom of the Me troWEB di splay is a bar that contains browser commands. The Left and Right soft keys are used to execute the browser commands that appear in their respective corners of the display .
Voice SVC 59 Section 10: V oice SVC This section explains how you can use and customize y our phone’ s VoiceSignal voic e recognition feature. V oice SVC Options Y our SCH-r300 includes VoiceSigna l, state-of-t he-art voice recognition soft ware that lets you use your voice to dial numb ers, access your Contacts list, and open T ools.

Use the Up and Down naviga tion keys to adjust the selected Se nsitivity se tting incre mentally between Reject More spoken commands or names and Reject Less spoken com mands or names. 3. Press OK or to accept the new setting. Press to discard the new sett ing and return to th e Voice Settings menu.

66 Section 12: T ools This section explains how you can use your phone’ s Personal Information Manager (PIM) functions to view today’ s calendar , schedule appointments, set an alarm, perform simple ma th calculations, and more.
