Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to st art using your Samsung SCH-u350 phone by activating your service, setting up your V oicemail, or getting an understanding of how this manual is pu t together .
5 Use the T rav el Adapter The travel adapter included with your phone is a convenient, light-weight charger that rapidly charges your phone from any 120/220 V AC outlet. 1. Plug the large e nd of the T ravel Adapter into a standard 120 V AC or 220 VAC wall outlet.
Getting Started 6 Import ant!: Y ou must fully charge the battery the first time you use your phone, otherwise you could damage the battery. From fully discharged to fully charged, the battery requires up to 4 hours of charge time.
7 T ur n Y our Phone On 1. Open the flip on your phone, as shown. 2. Press . Note: As with any other radio-transmitting device, do not touch the antenna while using your phone as this can affect call quality and can cause the phone to operate at a higher power level than is necessary.

Main Displ ay — Indicates the stat us of your phone, including numbers dialed, feat ure and function screens, status icons, message indica tors and contents, signal strength, and so on. 2. OK Key — Pressing when navigating through a menu accepts the highlighted choic e in a menu.

13 T o access the Icon Glossar y: 䊳 In standby mode, sel ect Menu ➔ Phone Info ➔ Icon Glossary . A list appears showing th e icons that can appear on the top line of the displays. Dialogue Bo xes Dialogue boxes prompt for action, inform you of status, or warn of situations such as low batt ery.

Standby Mode Standby mode is the state of th e phone once it has found service and is idle. The phone go es into standby mode: • After you power the phone on.
15 Adjus t the Ringer T o adjust the Ringer volume, wh ile in standby mode, press the Volume key up or down. 1. In standby mode, press the Volu me key up or down to set the call ringer volume as desired. Options are: 2. When you are satisfied wi th the setting, press SET ( ).
Call Functions 16 Section 3: Call Functions This section explains how to make or answer a call. This section also inc ludes the features and funct ionality associated with making or answering a call . Making a Call — Number Entr y Dialing 1. With the phone on, enter the nu mber you wish to call using the keypad.
17 1. Enter the number you wish to call, th en press the Options soft key . The foll owing options appear in the display: • P Pause — a hard pau se (waits for input from yo u followed by pressing ). • T Pa use — a four-second pause. Tip: Y ou can create pauses longer than four seconds by entering multiple T Pauses.

21 Re view th e Outgoin g / In coming / Missed / All Call s Log Note: T o quickly view your most recent calls, briefly press in standby mode. Up to 270 of your most recent outgoing, incoming, and missed calls appear in the display . 1. In standby mode, press Menu , then select Calls ➔ Outgoing / Incoming / Missed / All Calls .
Call Functions 22 • Lock / Unlock — Protect the selected data call from being erased. • Erase All — Era se all calls from your Outgoing call log.

Menu Navigation 24 Section 4: Menu Na vigation This section explains the menu navi gation for your phone. It also includes an outline of the menus avail able with your phone. Menu Naviga tion Access menus using the Menu key ( ), the Navigation key ( ), the soft keys ( ), or a shortcut.
25 Section 5: Understanding Y our Contacts This section explains how to ma nage your daily contacts by storing their name and number in your Contacts. C ontacts entries can be sorted by name.

The Update Existing screen appears in the display showing your cu rrent Contacts list. 6. Enter the first few characters o f the Contacts entr y name under which you will store the saved number .
Understanding Y our Contacts 28 Finding a Contacts Entr y V oice Method Use the VoiceSignal Contacts command to view contact information for any named contact st ored in your Contacts list by saying the name. Note: The Contacts command shows the requested contact information in the display but does not dial any ph one numbers for the contact.
29 Example: If you saved a contact name as “Amy Smith”, begin your search for that contact by pressing for “A”. Note: As you enter letters, the entry names of the closest matches (thus far) appear in the display . 3. When the desired Contacts entr y is listed in the display, highlight the contact using the navigatio n keys (if necessary).

33 Add a Number or E-M ail Address to an Existing Entr y 1. Find th e desired entr y in th e Contac ts list. (For more information, refer to “Finding a Contacts Entry” on page 28.) 2. Press the Edit soft key . The Edit Contact screen appears in the display wi th the co ntact name highlighted.

Sending a Message to Con tacts in a Contac ts Group 1. In the Group List, highlight th e Group to which you wish to send a message.

37 5. Use the Up and Down navigati on ke ys to highlight the name of the receivin g device , then press . Y our phone automatically connects with the other de vice and sends the selected Co ntact entries. Note: For information on turning off the Bluetooth connection, see “Bluetooth” on page 76.
Entering T ext 38 Section 6: Entering T ext This section outlines how to sele ct the desired te xt input mode when entering characters into your phone. This section also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text entry syst em to reduce the amount of key strokes associated with entering text.
39 Entering T ext in Alpha (Abc) Mode 1. Enter characters while in Alpha (Abc) mode by pressing the key with the desire d charac ters (such as, pressing once for “G”). 2. Press the key repeatedly unt il the desired character appears in the display (suc h as, pressing two times for “H”).
Entering T ext 40 For practice, enter the wo rd “SAMSUNG” into your message by pressing each of th e following key s only once: T9 Word recognizes that the most commonly used word for the sequence of keys you j ust pressed is “Samsung.
41 Enterin g Numbers Enter numbers into a text message while in number mode (123). Note: See “Changing the T ext Entr y Mode” on page 38 for instructions on changing text entry modes. 䊳 While in 123 mode, press the key labeled with the number that you wish to insert into your message.
Messaging 42 Section 7: Messaging This section explains ho w to create, send, receive, and view different types of messages. Thi s section also describes the features and functi onality associated with mes saging. Creating and Sending New Messages This section guides yo u through procedures for creating and sending text and picture messages.

49 – Save Pic — Picture Messages only — Saves a copy of the image included in the selected message to the images Gallery . – Save Sound — Picture Messages only — Saves the sound file in the message to the My Soun ds gallery. – Save Quick T ext — Saves the m essage text as a Quick T ext entry.
Messaging 50 • T o return to the Messages menu, press . 3. While viewing a selected message , do one of the follo wing: • T o delete the message, press the Erase soft key . • T o resend a message to th e origin al addressee, press Resend () . • Press the Options soft key .
51 – Save Quick T ext — Save the m essage text in the Quick T ext folder . – Erase Multip le — Erase selec ted/all messages in the Drafts folder . Select an op tion to perform the fun ction for that option. • T o return to th e Messages menu, press .
Messaging 52 • All Messages — Lets you delete all messages from all message folders. 2. Select the f older containing the messages that you wish to delete. Y ou are prompted to confirm the erasure o f all messages in that folder . 3. T o cancel deleting an y messages, press the No so ft k e y .
53 T ext Message Setting s 1. In standby mode, press the Message soft key , then select Msg Settings ➔ Te x t M e s s a g e . The following options appear in the display: •A u t o V i e w — Automatically vi ew messages as they are re ceived.
Alltel Shop 54 Section 8: Alltel Shop This section explains th e Alltel S hop features where users can download multimedia , applicatio ns, games, and check news and sports. Finding Applications With Axcess Shop, you can downlo ad full featured appli cations over the air including games, personalized ring ton es, pictures, and more.
55 Section 9: Alltel W eb This section outlines how to launch Alltel Web, how to navigate to other pages on the web, and ho w the keys on the keypad ar e used with the web application. With Alltel Web, you can c onven iently surf the web and download ringtones and wallpa pers using your phone.
Alltel Web 56 Alltel W eb soft k eys The bottom of the Alltel Web di splay is a bar that contains browser commands. The Left and Right ( ) soft keys on the keypad a re used to execute the command that appears above them in the displ ay . These are called “s oft keys” because their functions change depending on the application.
57 Section 10: Camera Use your U350 phone to take full color digital p i ctures, display them on your phone ’ s vivid color display , and instantly share them with family and friends. It’ s fun, and as easy to use as a traditional point-a nd-click camera.
Camera 58 T aking Multi Shot Pictures When taking pictures of moving subjects or subjects you cannot pose, such as children and pets, the camera’ s Multi Shot mode simplifies the process of tak ing multiple pictures in quick succession.
59 2. Using the display as a viewfind er , take the de sired picture by pressing the Camera key ( ). The photo review screen appears in the display . 3. Press the Send key ( ). 4. Enter the recipient’ s phone number or e-m ail address using the keypad.
Camera 60 Self T imer in use — Delays the camera shutter from Off [0 seconds (as shown)] to 2 Sec. () , 5 Sec. () , o r 10 Sec. ( ) after you press the Camera key ( ). Quality — Indicates camera’ s picture quality setting from Super Fine (shown) and Fine ( ), to Normal ( ).

63 • Fluorescent — Use this settin g when taki ng photos un der fluorescent lights. 2. Select the White Bal ance yo u wish to use. The camera viewfinder screen appears in the display with your selected White Balance applied. The next time you press the Came ra key ( ), the camera applies the s elected White Balance to your photo.
Camera 64 1. In camera mode, press the Options soft key , then highlight () a n d s e l e c t Icon Display . The following options appear in the display: •D i s p l a y A l l — All Camera display icons appear in the Camera view finder sc reen.
65 •O f f — Saves the picture and dis plays th e Create Pic Msg screen when you press the Send soft key . 2. Select the Reminde r setting of your choice. Y ou’re returned to the camera viewfinder screen. R eset Settings This option lets you reset the Ca mera’ s settings to their factor y default values.
Camera 66 The Photo Galler y Saved pictures are store d in the My Images folder . Y ou can browse the pictures one at a ti me (expanded mode), or view several pictures at o nce in thumbnail format. 1. In the Camera viewfinder screen, press the Gallery soft key .
67 Section 11: Multimed ia Y our phone contains galleries wh ere you can, store, access, and manage your photos (see “Camera” on page 57), downloaded images and ringtones , sound recordings (voice memos), and shuffle sets (ima ges and melodies).

T ools 74 Sensitivity 1. Fro m t he To o l s menu, select Voice Service ➔ Voice Settings ➔ Sensitivity . 2. Use the Up and Down navigati on keys to adjust the selected Sensitivi ty setting incrementally bet ween Reject More spoken comma nds or names and Reject Less spoken commands or names.
75 • If you need to re-record, say “ No .” If you say “No, ” the phone pr ompts you to pronounce the digits again. Wait for the be ep and then say the digits. Repeat this step unt il you’re satisfied with the recording. 4. After confirming that the reco rding sounds “ok”, continue the recording process with the next set of d igits.

T ools 88 Tip Calculator Tip Calculator automa tically calcula tes the following amounts: • Gratuity (tip) • Individual payment (for groups) Calculations a re based on the total a mount of the check, a selected gratuity percentage, and the number of people paying.
89 Section 13: Change Y our Settings This section explains how to cust om ize your phone to suit your needs and prefe rences. Settings Menu 䊳 T o acce ss the Settings menu, press Menu ( ), then select Settings . The Settings menu appears in the display .
Change Y our Settings 90 The following options ap pear in the display: •M y I m a g e s — Sele ct a picture to appear in the background o f the display when th e phone is in standby mode. •P r e s e t I m a g e s — Select a pr eset image t o appear i n the background of the displa y when the phone is in stan dby mode.
