4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section allows you to quic kly start using your phone by installing and charging the batter y , activating your service, and setting up voicemail. Understanding this User Manual The sections of this manual generally follow the features of your phone.
Getting Started 5 T ext Conv entions This manual provides cond ensed information a bout how to use your phone. T o make this possible, the fo llowing text co nventions are used: Activating your Phone If you purchased your phone at a Verizon Wireless store, it is activated and ready to use.
6 Batter y Y our phone is powered by a re chargeable, standard Li-Ion battery . A USB cable and Chargi ng Head are included with the phone, for charging the battery . Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your phone for the first time.
Getting Started 7 Inst alli ng the Batter y 1. Remove the battery cover (see “Removing the battery cover” on page 6.) 2. Insert the batt ery into t he pho ne, aligning the gold contacts on the battery with the gold contacts in the ph one. 3. Install the batt ery cover (see “Installing the battery cover” on page 6.
8 Charging the Batter y Y our phone comes with a USB cabl e and charging head to rapidly charge your phone from any 120/220 V AC outlet. Note: The battery comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your phone for the first time.
Getting Started 9 Non-Supported Batteries Samsung handsets do no t support the use of a non-supported battery. Import ant!: Using a non-supported battery may cause dama ge to your phone. Use a Samsung supported battery only. When using a non-supported battery you will hear a series of beeps and you will se e a warning message.

40 Entering T e xt Using T9 Word T9 Word is a predictive text en try mode tha t recognizes common English words matching the sequence of your ke y presses and inserts the most common word into your text. T9 Word requires only one key press per letter of th e word, and is much fast er than traditional text entry .
