Getting Started 5 T ext Conv entions This manual prov ides condensed information about how to use your phone. 6 Batter y Y our phone is powered by a re chargeable, stand ard Li-Ion battery . A Wall/USB Charger (Cha rging Head and USB cable) are included with the phone, for charging the battery . Note: The batter y comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time.
Getting Started 7 Ins tal ling t he Bat ter y 1. Remove the batter y cover . F or more informat ion, see “Removing the ba tter y cover” on page 6. 2. Insert batter y into the phone housing, aligning the gold contacts on the ba tter y with the gold contact s in the phone.
8 Charging the B atter y Y our phone comes with a W all/USB Ch arger (Charging Head and USB cable) to rapidly charge your phone from any 120/220 V AC outlet. Note: The batter y comes partially charged. Y ou must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time.
Getting Started 9 Non-Supp or ted Batteries Samsung handsets do not support the use of non-a pproved batteries. Impo rtant!: Using a non-supported batter y may damage to your phone. When using a non-su pported ba ttery you will hear a series of beeps and see a warning message: “ NON-SUP PORTED BA TTERY .
10 Y our Google Account Y our new phone uses your Go ogle account to fu lly utilize its Android features, including Gmail, Google Maps, Google T a lk and the Android Market. When you turn on your phone for the first time, set up a connecti on with your existi ng Google account, or create a new Go ogle acc ount.

Sending C a lls to V oice mail When your phone alerts you to an incoming call, you c an ignore the call by rejecting i t to send the call er to vo ice mail , or reject the call and send a message to the caller .
Call Functions 33 Silencing an Incoming Call Ringtone When your p hone alerts you to an i ncoming call, you can silence the ringtone for the call by one of these meth ods: • T ouch Silence on the Incoming ca ll screen. • Press the V olume Key down.

Accounts Y our phone provides th e ability t o synchroniz e informatio n from a variety of accounts, including Google, a Corpora te Exchange server , and social networking s i tes such as Facebook, T witter , and MySpace.

44 Send ing Nam ecar ds Sending a Namecar d (vCar d) Y ou can send a contact namecard as a vCards via Blueto oth to other Bluetooth devices, or vi a Gmail as an attachment . Important!: Not all Bluetooth devices will accept contacts, and not all devices support transfers of multiple contacts.

50 Backup Assistant Backup Assistant is a wireless service that saves a copy of your Contacts to a secure web site. If yo ur phone is lost, stolen or damaged, Backup Assist ant can restore your s a ved contacts to a new phone, wirelessly . Y ou can schedule ba ckups to save you r information man ually or automatically .
Entering T ext 51 Section 5: Entering T ext This section describes how to en ter words, letters, punctuation and numbers when you need to enter text . V ir tual QWERTY Keyboard Y o ur phone uses a virt ual QWER TY keyboard for text entry .
52 Entering T e xt Using Swype Swype is a new way to enter text on touc h screens. Instead of touching each key , use your finger to tra ce over ea ch lette r of a word. For each word, place your fing er on the first let ter and glide to the subsequent letters, li fting on the last letter .
Entering T ext 53 Entering Symbols Enter common symbols by one o f these methods: • T ouch and hold on a key to en ter the symb ol at the top of the key . • T ouch and hold o n a key until a menu of all char acters available on that key ap pears, then tou ch a charac ter to en ter it.
54 Section 6: Messaging This section describes how to se nd and receive messages, and other features associ ated with messaging. Typ es of Messa ges Y our phone supports these types of messages: • T ext mess a ges: Send and receive simple messages containing text to other mobile phones or e mail addresses (also known as SMS).

56 Mana ging Mess ages T hreaded V iew Messages you send and receive to the same contact, number or address are grouped to gether as a “thread ”. Threaded messages allow yo u to see all the messa ges you exchanged with a contact, or other recipient, with the latest message displayed first.

72 Do wnload Music to y our PC When you purchase music with your wireless d e vice, you can also download a copy to your PC using the V CAST with Rhapsody software. 1. On your PC, launch V CA ST Music with Rhapsody . 2. Log in. After logging in, locate and download music files.

Connections 83 Blue tooth Bluetooth is a short-ra nge wireless communi cations technology for exchangi ng informatio n over a distance of about 30 feet. Y o u don’t need to line up the de vices to send information with Bluetooth. If the devices ar e in range, you can exchange informat ion between them, even if they are in differe nt rooms.
84 VPN Y ou can use your phone’ s VPN (Virtu al Private Netw ork) feature to connect to VPNs. Configuring VPN Settings Configure your phone’ s VPN settin gs.
