Status Bar Ic ons provide info rmation about yo ur device’ s status and options, such as signal strength, wireless technology , ringer se tting, messaging, and batter y charge. 2. 12 4. microSD Card Slot lets you use a micr oSD card to expand the memor y of your phone. A 2GB microSD card comes pre-installed. 5. P ower Button lets you turn the device on or off, or turn off the touchscreen display . • When the scr een is tur ned off, press once to retur n to Scre en lock mode.
Understanding Y our Phone 13 Call Muted – T he device m i crophone has been muted. Speaker – Speakerphone f eature is enabled. Batter y Strength – Shows your current battery charge level. (Icon shown is fully charged.) Batter y Charging – Shows your current b atter y charge level and indicates it is chargi ng.
14 Sign-in/Sync Error – There has been an issue with your connection to the Googl e server or you were not properly signed into your account. In order to use Google application or sync features, you must set up and sign int o an act ive Google ac count.

16 Note: Long backlight settings, searching for ser vice, vibrate mode, browser use and other variables may reduce the battery talk and standby times. Tip : Watch your battery level indica tor and charge the battery before it runs out of power . Installing the Ba tter y See “Setting Up Y our Device” on page 5.
Understanding Y our Phone 17 4. Plug the charging head int o a standard AC power out let. Always use a Samsung-approved desktop charger , travel charger , or vehicle power adap ter to charge your batter y . Plug the flat end of the charger into the dev ice’ s charger jack.
18 • T urn Wi-F i of f when not in use. • Deactivate the GPS when not needed. Mos t applications using this function will periodica lly query the GPS satellites for your current location; each query drains your batter y . See “Activating Location Mode” on page 123.

24 Using the Applications T ab Y o u can access all of your local applications by the shortcuts in the Applications tab. Note: This tab houses all default and downloaded a pplications (installed from Android Market or from the Web). 1. Note: If you do not already have a Google account, tap Create and follow the onscreen prompts to create your new account.

42 Note: When you end the 911 call, you are returned to the Emergency Call Back mode. 2. T ouch a nd drag across th e screen to exit th e Emergenc y Callback mode. Emergenc y Callback mode: Once you have dialed an em ergency number you can press a button to automa tically re dial the emerge ncy number .
Making and Answ ering Calls 4 3 T ouch and drag to the right to accept or to the left to ignore the incoming call. T o switch back to the f irst caller: 䊳 Press and tap Swap calls . Making a 3-W ay Call With 3-Way calling, you can talk to two people at the same time.

Settings 49 W i-Fi Setttings Once Wi-Fi is set up for connect ivity , the phone auto maticall y uses a Wi-Fi connection when one is available for da ta ser vices. 1. From the Home s creen, press and tap ➔ Wireless & networks ➔ Wi-Fi settin gs .
50 Activating the De vice Name 1. Activate Bluetooth. 2. From the Home screen, press and tap ➔ Wireless & networks ➔ Bluetooth settings ➔ Device name . 3. Press to erase the current dev ice name and enter a new device name. 4. Ta p OK to confirm the setti ng.
Settings 51 Vir tual P riv ate Netw or k (VPN) Settings Using this menu you can set up and manage Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). Note: Before you can use a VPN you must establish and configure one. Adding a VPN 1. From the Home s creen, press and tap ➔ Wireless & networks ➔ VPN setti ngs .
52 3. Ta p International Dialing. 4. T ap the entry field and press from the onscreen keyboard to delete the prev ious value. 5. Enter a new value and tap OK . 6. Ta p North Am erican dialing to reactiva te the fea ture. This disables the International D ialing field.
Settings 53 Warn ing! : 911 Emer genc y Call ing TTY users should make emergency calls by other means, inc luding T elecommunications Relay Services (TRS), analog cellular , and landline communications. Wireless TTY calls to 911 may be corrupted when received by public safety answering points (PSAPs), rendering some communications unintelligible.
54 • Only when not in Silent mode : your device only vibrates fo r notifica tions and alert s when Silent mode i s not active. Note: The Phone vibrate setting is independent of other call sound settings. For example, if you enable Silent mode with Phone vibrate, your phone will not play a ringtone, but will vibrate for an incoming call.

56 Windo w A nima tion This feature pro vides th e use of ani mation when onscreen windows are open ed and c losed. I f deactivated, windows pop on and off and no tra nsitions are applied. 1. From the Home screen, press and tap ➔ Displ ay . 2. Ta p Animation and select No animation s , Some animations , or All animations .
Settings 57 Adjusting the Date and Time Y our phone obtains it s time and da te info rmation by using the network-provided da te, time, and time zone. These va lues can be manually altered. 1. From the Home s creen, press and tap ➔ Date & time .
58 Note: T urning Location on allows the network to detect your position using GPS technology , making some mobile a pplications and services easier to use. T urning Location off disables the GPS location function for all purposes except 911, but will not hide your general location based on the cell site serving your call.

60 Changin g an Unloc k Pattern Once you have set an unlock patt ern you can easily change the pattern. 1. Draw the unlo ck patter n. 2. Ta p Change screen lock and redraw the sa ved pattern. 3. Ta p None . 4. Ta p Set up screen lock and select Pa t t e r n , then recreate a pattern.
Settings 61 Calling in Loc k Mo de When your de vice is locked, you can onl y receive incomi ng calls or make calls to 911o r Customer Service. 1. Press to reveal the lock screen. Note: The Unlock Pattern applies if the Require Pattern setting is enabled.
62 Managing Y our Available Memor y Y ou can mana ge the information and configuratio n relate d to both your microSD card and built-in storage m emory . The available de vice mem ory provided by t hese tw o location s is called Internal phone storage .

64 Manag e R unning Ser vices This service is an efficient method for managing power consumption and proc essor/memory resour ces. Processes can be stopped until the phone is restarted. T o stop a current ly running service: 1. From the Home screen, press and tap ➔ Applications ➔ Running ser vices.

70 Section 5: Histor y Viewing Call Log Call Log (Histor y) is a list of the phone numbers (or Contacts entries) for call s you placed, ac cepted, or missed .
Histor y 71 Call Log Options This list provides easy acces s to redial an entr y , or you can al so choose to access two types of history entry list s depending on how they are touched. • Highlight an entry from the list and tap to quickly redial the selected entry .
72 • T ap a contact entry name or tap an entry to display the call options screen: – Call information (Incoming/Outg oing call, and Mi ssed call information) provide s the time and d ate of the call and its duration. – Call [Name or Num ber] allows you to redial the entry by nam e or number .

T ools 81 Section 7: T ools Before Y ou Be gin Prior to using Google applications such as calendar , you will need to have an active Google account (page 39). Google Calendar is an applicat ion tha t synchronizes new and existing entries between your phone and your online Google account.

T ools 83 Adding an Event to the Calendar Y our Calendar helps or ganize your time and remind s you of important events. 1. Press and tap (Calendar) . Note: T o synchronize calendar events among your Google and Corporate accounts, make sure they are being managed by your device (page 65 ).

T ools 91 T o restore your Google applications: Y our Google™ appli cation purchase s are reloaded remot ely and can be re-installed after the update is applied. 1. Log into your Google ac count with the device. 2. Press and tap ➔ . 3. Press and tap My apps .
92 Section 8: V oice Ser vices Important!: T he Voice Control (Speech to Action) feature will not launch if you are currently in an active menu. V oice Dialing Use Voice Dialer , the built-in automatic speech recognition (ASR) software, to dial a pho ne number in your Contacts or to launch phone functions.

Voice Services 95 V oice Search Voic e Search wo rks simila rly to the V oice Dialer . It uses built-i n voice recognizer so ftware to listen to yo ur spoken words, convert those to text, and then l aunch a Google search using that t ext. 1. Press and tap ➔ ( Voice Search ).
96 Section 9: microSD Car d Y our Device’ s micr oSD Car d and Adapter T he microSD Car d Y our phone is equipped with a preinstalled 2GB SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity ) memory card. It allows you to store images, videos, m usic, and voice d ata in your phone.
microSD Card 97 Note: Do not over -insert the card as this can damage the contact pins. Note: Be sure to use only recommended microSD cards (<32GB). Using non recommended microSD cards could cause data loss and damage y our devic e. Note: The microSD card and its adapter can be easily dama ged by improper operation.
98 Important!: DO NOT remove a microSD card while the device is accessing or transferring files. Doing so will result in loss or damage of data. Make sure your batter y is fully charged before using the microSD card. Y our data may become damaged or lost if the batter y runs out while you are using the microSD card.
