10 Section 1 Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provide d with a plug-in SIM card loaded with your subscription details, su ch as your PIN, any optional services available, and many others.

When charging i s finished, unplug the a dapter from th e power outl et and disconnect it fr om the phone by pressing the b uttons on both sides of the connector and pulling the connector out.

24 Section 3 Making a Call When the idle screen displays, enter the ar ea cod e and phone number , and press the key . Note: When you activate the Auto redial option in the Extra settings menu, the phone will automat ically redial up to 10 times when the person does not answer the call or is already on the phone.
Section 3: Call Functions 25 Making a Call Section 3 1. If you ha ve typed characters on the display , press the key to return to Idle mode. 2. Press the key to display a list of th e most recent numbers used in th e order you dial ed or received them.
26 Section 3 Once you have stored a number in the Addr ess Book, you can dial it by pressing a few keys. Y ou can also assign you r most frequently-used numbers to number keys using th e Speed Dial featur e. For further details about th e Phone book featur e , see "Finding an Addr ess Book Entry" on page 71.
Section 3: Call Functions 27 Call Log Section 3 Note: T o reject an incoming ca ll, press and hold the Volume keys on the left side of the phone before opening the phone, or press the Reject soft key or key . 2. End the call by closing the p hone or pressing th e key .

Press the key to perfor m the option’ s function. Viewing Calls Made Y our phone retains information about the last 20 outgoing calls and stores them in the Calls Made log.

Section 3: Call Functions 31 Recent Calls Section 3 Call Time Call T ime allows you to view the duration of your Last Call, T otal Made, and T otal Received during the life cycle of your phone. Call T ime is not for billing purposes. 1. In Idle mode, press t he Menu soft key to access Menu mode.
32 Section 3 Silent Mode Silent mode is convenient when you wish to stop the phone fr om making noise, in a theater for example. In Idle mode, press and hold the key until the “Silent Mode Activated” message and the Mute icon () display .

58 Section 5 Changing the T ext Entr y Mode When using your ph one, you wi ll often need to enter text, such as when storing a na me in the Addr ess Book, creating your person al greetin g or sche duling events on your calendar . Y ou can enter alphanumeric characters by using your phone’s keypad.

84 Section 7 Messaging Service (EMS ), which enables you to include simple pictur es, melodies, and animated images in your messages. T o use this feature, you mu st subscribe to your service provider ’s message se rvice. When the Message icon ( ) a ppears, you have r eceived new text messages.

In each category , you can select from the various factory-set items or choose an item received from other sources, such as the Internet or other phones.

Section 7: Messaging 87 T ext Messages Section 7 • Extract Addre ss: allows you to e xtract the sender’ s number and URL, e-mail addresses or phon e numbers from the message text, so that you can save them in your phone’ s m emory . Outbox This message box is used to stor e messag es that you have sent or will send.
88 Section 7 • Send: allows you to send the text message. • Move to SIM: allows you to move the message from the phone’ s memory to the SIM card. This option is only a vailable for messages stored in the SIM card. Delete All This menu allo ws you to delete all of the t ext messages in each message box.

The following options ar e available: • Inbox: allows you to read the messages received from the web server .

Cell Broadcast (CB) messages display as soon as they are received, pr ovided that: • the phone is in Idle mode.
