14 Your Phone Backlight The display and keypad are illuminated by a backlight. When you press any key, the backlight illuminates. It turns off if no key is pressed within a given period of time, depending on the Backlight option set in the Phone Settings menu.

You then simply select the required name to recall the associated number. For further details on the Phonebook feature, refer to page 36.

The SIM card and phone memories, although physically separate, are used as if they were a single entity, called the phonebook.

41 64 Entering Text The phone allows you to enter characters for messages and names in Chinese and English. To enter Chinese text, the phone provides several widely used pronunciation based (Pinyin) and character shape based (Stroke) input methods to meet the preferences of different users, allowing for greater convenience and ease of use.
43 Entering Text 42 Entering Text Changing Text Input Mode When you are in a field that allows character entr y , you should notice the text input mode indicator in the bottom of the display. Y ou can change between Chinese input methods, and English or to numbers input.
Up/Down Scroll Keys Scrolls through choices in the Character Selection Map. Also scrolls through text modes available when you access Mode change menu. 45 Entering Text 44 Entering Text Pinyin( ) Mode Pinyin is a system to mark Chinese pronunciation in Latin alphabets.

49 Entering Text 48 Entering Text Using Tone Key in Pinyin Mode Entering the tone of a character you are typing nar rows the number of choices in the Character Selection Map. Entering the tone for a character is optional, but it is especially useful if the Pinyin spelling is similar between characters.

62 Entering Text Number Mode Number mode enables you to enter numbers into a text message. Press keys cor r esponding to the desired digits, and manually switch back to the text entry mode of choice. Symbolic Mode Symbolic mode enables you to enter symbols into a text message.
63 In-Call Options Y our phone provides a number of control functions that you can use during a call. To access these functions during a call, press the Options soft key . Switching the Microphone Off (Mute) Y ou can temporarily switch your phone’s microphone off, so that the other party cannot hear you.
65 In-Call Options 64 In-Call Options Searching for a Number in the Phonebook Y ou can search for a number in the phonebook during a call. 1. Press the Options soft key . 2. Press the soft key to highlight the Phonebook option. 3. Press the OK soft key .

The curr ent call is placed on hold and the call on hold is reactivated so that you can continue conversing with the other party . When you have finished, end each call normally by pressing the key .

81 Call records 80 Call records Call Cost Menu 2-5 This network feature lets you view the cost of calls. The following options are available. Last Call Cost: cost of the last call made. T otal Cost: total cost of all calls made since the cost counter was last reset.
83 Text Messages Y ou can choose the following options, by pressing the Options soft key . T ext Reply: allows you to reply by sending a text message. You can also: • Change the SMS centre number (if required) • Send the message • Save and send the message • Save but not send the message Call back: allows you to call the sender back.

87 Text Messages Receive: allows you to Enable or Disable the r eception of broadcast messages. Channel List: lists all available channels. The channels curr ently selected are indicated by an asterisk ( * ) beside the name. When you select one of them, you can edit, enable (or disable) or delete the channel.
89 Voice Functions 88 V oice Dial Record This option allows you to register numbers for subsequent voice dialling. Record the required name, by following the instructions given by your phone to enter the required telephone number and name. V oice Dial Act This option plays back the names that you have recorded.

You can quickly turn the AnswerPhone on or off by pressing and holding the key in idle mode. Greeting Message Menu 6-1 This option allows you to set a greeting message to be displayed briefly when the phone is switched on.

Backlight Menu 6-5 Y ou can select whether or not the phone uses the backlight. A marginal increase in standby/talk time can be achieved by turning the backlight off.
103 Phone Settings 102 Phone Settings Hide Number: your number is not displayed on the other person’s phone. Send Number: your number is sent each time you make a call. Active Flip Menu 6-0 The voice dial or voice command mode can be activated automatically whenever the phone is opened.

115 Security The Security feature enables you to restrict the use of your phone to: • The people of your choice • The types of calls of your choice V arious codes and passwords are used to protect the features of your phone. They are described in the following sections (see also pages 22-25).
117 S e c u r i t y 116 S e c u r i t y Change Password Menu 8-4 The Change Password feature allows you to change your current phone password to a new one. You must enter the curr ent password before you can specify a new one. The password is factory set to 0000.
118 S e c u r i t y FDN Mode Menu 8-6 The FDN(Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supported by your SIM card, allows you to restrict your outgoing calls to a limited set of phone numbers. The following options are available. Enable: you can only call phone numbers stored in the phonebook.
119 Network Services These menu functions are network services. Please contact your service provider to check their availability and subscribe to them, if you so wish. Call Diverting Menu 9-1 This network service enables incoming calls to be r erouted to the number that you specify .
121 Network Services 120 Network Services Call Barring Menu 9-2 The call barring network service allows you to r estrict your calls. Call barring can be set up in the following ways. All Outgoing: calls cannot be made. International: international calls cannot be made.
123 Network Services 122 Network Services Call Waiting Menu 9-3 This network service enables you to be informed when someone is trying to reach you during another call.
125 Network Services 124 Network Services Preferr ed List: allows you to list your prefer red networks to be used when roaming. Your phone uses the networks in order of appearance in this list, provided that the network is available.
127 Network Services 126 Network Services Activating a Closed User Group If you select the Closed User Group menu, you ar e asked if you want to activate the CUG function. Press the Y es soft key. You can now access the following options. Deactivate: deactivates the CUG function.
129 Solving Problems “No service” is displayed • The network connection was lost. You may be in a weak reception area (in a tunnel or sur rounded by buildings). Move and try again. • Y ou are trying to access an option for which you have not taken out a subscription with your service provider.
