Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone b y first configuring your hardware, activating your service, and then setting up your voice mail.

8 Y ou can use the phone while the batter y is charging, but doing so requires additional charging time. Note: Y ou must fully charge the batter y before using your phone for the first time. A discharged battery recharges fully in approxima tely 4 hours.

16 1. Volume keys allow you to adjust the Ring vo lume in standby mode (with the phone open) or adjust the S peaker volume during a call. When receiving an incoming call, if you press the volume key , you can mute the ring tone. If you press and hold the volume ke y , you can reject the call.
Understanding Y our Phone 17 Backlight A backlight illumina tes the internal display and the keypad. When you press any key , the backlight com es on. It goes off when no keys are pressed within a given period of time, depending on the se tting in the Backlight menu.
18 T o specify the le ngth of time th e backlight is active, access the Backlight menu: 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Settings ➔ Display settings ➔ Backlight and press the Select soft key o r the key . 2. Highlight the Duration option. Use the Left or Right Navigation key to select the time the backlight is on.
Call Functions 19 Section 3: Call Functions This section descri bes how to make or answe r a call. It also explains the features and functionali ty associated with making or answerin g a call. Making a Call When the idle screen displays, ent er the number you wish to dial and press the key .
20 Adjusting the Call V olume During a call, use the Vo lume keys on the left side of th e pho ne, to adjust the speaker volu me. 䊳 Press the Up volume key to inc rease the v olume level and the Down volume key to decrease the level. In Idle mode, yo u can also adjust the ring vo lume using these keys.
Call Functions 21 Note: While in Idle mode, press the key to access the Recent Calls . At any time while you are in Recent Calls, you can use the Left or Right Na vigation keys to scroll through All Calls , Missed Calls , Incoming Calls and Outgoing Calls call records.

Call Functions 23 1. Highlight the type of call s you want to delete and press the key to make a check mark. Note: Selecting the All Calls check box automatically selects all the entries in the Delete All menu. 2. Press the Delete soft key to delete t he calls.
24 3. Press the Reset soft key to reset the Da ta Volume. 4. Press the Back soft key or th e key to end. Selecting Functions and Options Y our phone offers a set of customizab le f unctions. These functi ons are arran ged in menus and sub-menus, and accessed usi ng the two soft keys.

Viewing the next function or hig hlighting the next option on a list, by pressing the Down Navigation key . 4. Moving back to the previous function or option on a list, by pressing the Up key .
26 T o switch the mi crophone off temporarily : 䊳 Press the Mute key . The other person can no longer hear you. The Mute icon ( ) displays in the c all box. T o switch the mi crophone back on: 䊳 Press the Unmute key . The other pers on can hear you again.
Call Functions 27 T o switch between the two ca lls: 1. Press Options ➔ Swap , and pres s the key . The current active call is placed on hold and the ca ll on hold is then reactiva ted so that you ca n continue conversing with that person. 2. Press the key when you are finished or want to e nd the call.
28 Searching for a Number in the Contact List Y ou can search for a number in the Contact List during a call. 1. Press the Options ➔ Contacts . The Contact List displays.
Call Functions 29 3-Way Calling (Multi-P ar ty Calling) The 3-Way or Multi-P arty feature allo ws yo u to answer a series of incoming calls and place them on hold. If this service is supported by the network, and the SIM has the feature enabled, all calls can be joined toge ther .

Symbol - displays the Symbols pa ge. Choose from an extensi ve list of symbols and other character sets.
Entering T ext 33 However , the T9 mode automatically compares the series of keystrokes you make with an internal linguistic dictionary to determine the most likely wo rd, thus requiring fewer keystrokes than the traditional ABC mode. • Alpha : this mode allows you to enter letters by pres sing the key labeled with the corresponding letter .
34 T o shift case in T9 mode: 䊳 Press the key . There are 3 cases: Capita l lock, Initial c apital, and Lower case. Tip: Y ou can move the cursor by using the Navigation keys. T o delete characters: 䊳 Press the key . Press and hold the key to c lear the display .
Entering T ext 35 Using Number Mode The Number mode enables you to en ter numbers into a text message. 䊳 Press the keys corresponding to the digits you want to enter . Using Symbol Mode Symbol mode enables you to insert sy mbols and punctuat ion marks into text.

T ext Messages Short Message S ervice (S MS) allows you to send and receive short text messages to and from other mobile phones.

48 Messages Settings In this menu, you can set up a default text message or a picture message. The last setting you accessed is auto matically activated for se nding subsequent mes sages. 䊳 In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Messages ➔ Management ➔ Messages Settings .

52 Dialing a Number from the Contact List Once you store phone numbers in the Co ntact List, you can dial them easi ly and quickly. Note: Select Contact List in the Contacts menu to search for the entry by name. For more information, refer to “Finding a Contact List Entry” on page 50.
Managing Y our Contacts 53 Editing a Caller Group 1. In Idle mode, press Menu ➔ Contacts ➔ Group and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Scroll through the group lis t, highlight the gr oup you want, and press the Options soft key . 3. Highlight Edit and press the Select soft key or the key .
54 8. Press the key to return to Idle mode. Speed Dialing Once you store phone number s from yo ur Phonebook list , you can set up to 8 speed dial entrie s and then easil y dial them whenever you want, by pressin g the associated numeric key.
Managing Y our Contacts 55 FDN Contacts Fixed Dial Number (FDN) mode , if supported by your SIM card, allows you to restrict your outgoing calls to a limi ted set of phone numbers. When this feature is enabled, you can make calls only to pho ne numbers stored in the FDN list on the SIM card.

Browse r Y our phone is equippe d with a W AP (Wireless Applic ation Protocol) browser which provides you wireless acce ss and navigation to the W eb using your phone.

Games & Apps 59 Section 9: Games & Apps This section outlines the applications available in the Games & Apps menu: Games, Music Player , Camera, Vo ice Recorder and Image Editor . Games Y ou can download MID lets (Java applications tha t run on mobile phones) from various sources using the browser and then storing them in your phone.
60 Section 10: My F older The My Folder menu provides access to st ored files on your phone and on your memory card. Y ou can a ccess these storag e locations: Sounds, Images, Videos, Music, Other Fi les, Memory Card and Me mory Status, and you can create your own folders.
