Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section describes how to start usi ng your phone by activating your service and setting up your voice mail . Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular network, a plug-in SIM card is provided loaded with your subsc rip tion details, such as your PIN and other optional ser vices.
5 Remo v ing the SI M Car d T o remove the SIM card, sl ide it away from socket. S ee the following illus tration. Installing the Batter y 1. Align the batt ery tabs wi th the slots a t the bottom of t he phone. 2. Press the batter y do wn until it clicks into place.
Getting Started 6 Char ging a Batte r y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li -ion batter y . Use the travel adaptor to charge the b atter y , and use only Samsung approved batteries and chargers. Note: Y ou must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time.

Understanding Y our Phone 12 Inter nal Display Layout The display has 3 areas: Icons Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of b ars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a new text message has been received. Appears when a new vo ice mail has been received.

15 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a ca ll. It also includes the features and function ality associated with ma king or answering a call. Making a Call When the Idle screen displays, enter the a rea code and phone number , and press the key .

17 Recent Calls The phone stores the numbers of th e calls yo u’ve dialed, received, or mi ssed in the Recent Calls menu. If the number or caller is listed in your Address Book , the name associate d displays. Viewing Missed Calls The number of calls yo u have missed displays on the Idle screen when a call is missed.
Call Functions 18 Data Vo lume 1. From the Idle Screen, press Menu ➔ Recent Calls ➔ Data Volum e and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Use the Up and Down Navigatio n keys to view the following in formation: •L a s t S e n t D a t a : show s the To t a l for the data last sent.
19 2. Y ou can reacti vate the call wh enever you want, by pressin g the Resume soft key. T o make a call while you have a call in progress: 1. Place the call on hold using t he previous procedures, and enter the phon e number that you wish to dial or lo ok it up in the Contac t List.
Call Functions 20 Muting or Sending Key T ones These options allo w you to turn the key tones o ff or on. If the Mute Keypad T one option is selected, your p hone does not transmit the DTMF (Dual T one Multi-Frequency) tones of the keys, which allows you to press keys without hearing annoying key tones during a call.
21 Section 4: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the men u na vi gation for yo ur phone. It also includes an outline of all the a vailable menus associa ted with your phone. Menu Naviga tion Menus and sub-menus can be ac cessed by scrolling using the Navigati on keys or by using the shortcut keys.
Menu Navigation 22 1. Press the Menu soft key . 2. Press the k ey for Settings . 3. Press the k ey for Set Phone . 4. Press the ke y for Language . The available languages are displayed. My Menu The My Menu option is another way to access applications from the idle mode without navigati ng through the main menu icons and sub menus.
23 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text input mode when entering characters into yo ur phone. This sec tion also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text entr y system to reduce the amount of key strokes associated with entering text.

Choose from th e following options: : ABC mode (short pre ss the key to toggl e between ABC , Abc , and abc mo de) : T9 mode (press and hold the key to reach the T9 mo de.) Messaging 28 Multimedia 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu softkey and select Messaging ➔ Crea te New Message ➔ Multimedia Message and press the Select soft key or the key. 2. Press the Options soft key to view the follo wing options: • Subject – Add : allows you to add a subject to the message.

Messaging 30 Re trieving an Multimed ia Message When a new Multimedia messa ge comes in, the display shows the Multimedia Messa ge icon ( ) and a text notifica tion along with the sender’ s number . 1. Press the Vi e w soft key to v iew brief informa tion about the message, such as the sender’ s number , the message size, and the subject.
31 Options for SMS Messages • Reply : allows you to reply to the message. • Call Back : allows you to dial the originating message number . • Forward : allows you to forward the message. • Delete : deletes the message. • Move to Phone/Move to SIM Card : If a message is stored in the SIM card, it is saved to the phone’ s memory.

43 Sound Settings This list describes the sound setti ngs for the follow ing categories (tabs): • Call : – Call Alert T ype : allows you to select the way in which the selected ringtone is played w hen a call comes in on the phone. • Melody : the phone sounds the selected m elody .

Set FDN Mode Set FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supported by your SIM card, allows you to restri ct your outgoing call s to a limited set of phone numbers.
