Getting Started 4 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section describes how to start usi ng your phone by activating your service and setting up your voice mail . Activating Y our Phone When you subscribe to a cellular network, a plug-in SIM card is provided loaded with your subsc rip tion details, such as your PIN and other optional ser vices.
5 Installing the SIM Card Important!: The plug-in SIM card and its contacts can be easily damaged by scratches or bending. Use caution when inserting or removing the card and keep all SIM cards out of reach of children.
Getting Started 6 3. With the batte ry in position on the phone, place the cover back on the handset and slid e it in until it clicks. Char ging a Batte r y Y our phone is powered by a rechar geable Li-ion batt ery. Use the travel adaptor to charge the b attery, and use only Samsung approved batteries and chargers.
7 Po wering On or Off the Phone 1. Open the phone. 2. Press and hold the key or the key until the phone power -on screen displays. 3. If the phone asks you to enter a pass word, enter a password and press the OK soft key or the key . For more informatio n, refer to “Change Phone Pa ssword” on page 49.

Understanding Y our Phone 12 Inter nal Display Layout The display has 3 areas: Icons Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of b ars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a new text message has been received. Appears when a new vo ice mail has been received.
13 menu and sub-menu allows you to view and alter the settings of a particular functio n. In some functions, you may be asked for a password or PIN. Enter the code and press the Select soft key or the key . When you access a list of opti ons, your phone highlights th e currently active op tion.

15 Section 3: Call Functions This section describes how to make or answer a ca ll. It also includes the features and function ality associ ated with making or answering a call. Making a Call When the Idle screen displays, enter the a rea code and phone number , and press the key.

17 Recent Calls The phone stores the numbers of th e calls yo u’ve dialed, received, or mi ssed in the Recent Calls menu. If the numb er or caller is listed in your Address Book , the name associa ted displays. Viewing Missed Calls The number of calls yo u have missed displays on the Idle screen when a call is missed.
Call Functions 18 Data V olume 1. From the Idle Screen, press Menu ➔ Recent Calls ➔ Data Volum e and press the Select soft key or the key . 2. Use the Up and Down Navigatio n keys to view the following in formation: •L a s t S e n t D a t a : show s the To t a l for the data last sent.
19 2. Y ou can reactiva te the call wh enever you want, by pressing the Resume soft key. T o make a call whil e you have a call in pro gress: 1. Place the call on hold using t he previous procedures, and enter the phon e number that you wish to d ial or look it up in the Contac t List.
Call Functions 20 Muting or Sending Key T o nes These options allo w you to turn the key tones o ff or on. If the Mute Keypad T o ne option is sel ected, your phone does not transmit the DTMF (Dual T one Multi-Frequenc y) tones of the keys, which allows you to press keys without hearing key tones during a call.
21 Section 4: Menu Naviga tion This section explains the men u navi gation for your phone. It also includes an outline of all the a vailable menus associa ted with your phone. Menu Naviga tion Menus and sub-menus can be ac cessed by scrolling using the navigation keys or by using the shortcut keys.
Menu Navigation 22 1. Press the Menu soft key . 2. Press the k ey for Settings . 3. Press the k ey for Set Phone . 4. Press the key f or Language . The available languages are displayed. My Menu The My Menu option is another way to access applications from the idle mode without navigati ng through the main menu icons and sub menus.
23 Section 5: Entering T ext This section outlines ho w to select the desi red text input mode when entering characters into yo ur phone. This sec tion also describes how to use the T9 pred ictive text entr y system to reduce the amount of key strokes associated with entering text.
Entering T ext 24 When you are in a fiel d that allo ws characters to be entered, yo u will notice the text input mo de indicator on the display . 1. T o toggle the te xt input mode between the ABC mode and the T9 mode , press a nd hold the key.
25 3. Enter the whole word before editing or deleting the keystrokes. 4. When the word displays co rrectly , go to step 5. If the word doesn’t display correctly , press the key to display alternative wo rd choice s for the keys that you have pressed.

27 Section 6: Messaging This section describes how to send or receive diffe rent types of messages. It al so includes the features and functi onality associated with messaging.
Messaging 28 3. Enter the phone number or phone numbers or press the Options soft key to find contacts stored on your phone in these lists: Contact List , Re cent Recipients, Grou p, FDN Contacts. 4. Highlight your number se lection and press the Chec k soft key to select.

Messaging 32 Before using this feature, you need to subscrib e to a messenger service. Y our handset has 3 pre- loaded messenger serv ices (AIM, Windows Live, and Y ahoo!). Note: Contact A T&T customer service for further details. Star ting your Instant Messenger 1.

41 Address B ook Settings The address book Settings allow you to set default sett ings for your address book option s. 1. When the Idle screen displays, press the Menu ➔ Address Book ➔ Address Book Settings , by pressing the Up or Down Navigation key and press the Select soft key or the key.

43 • Call : – Call Alert T ype : allows you to select the way in which the selected ringtone is played w hen a call comes in on the phone. • Melody : the phone sounds the selected melody .
Changing Y our Settings 44 • T o move between the various tabs, use the Left and Right Navi gati on keys. • T o highlight individual options, use the Up and Down Navigation keys. • T o change the setting for a highlighted option, press the Change () key .
45 • Theme : allows you to choose from 2 patterns for your handset’ s theme. • Menu Style : allows you to choose from Grid Me nu or List Menu styles. • Pop u p List Menu : allows you to turn On or Off the pop-up menus, which will display som e of the sub menu options.

Set FDN Mode Set FDN (Fixed Dial Number) mode, if supported by your SIM card, allows you to restri ct your outgoing call s to a limited set of phone numbers.

51 Gener al Show My Number Y ou can prevent your phone n umber from being displayed on the phone of the person being called. Note: Some networks do not allow you to change this setting. The followin g options are a vailable: • Set by Network : the default setting provided by the network is used.

55 5. At the “ Reset Settings?” prompt, press the Ye s soft key to reset, or the No soft key to ca ncel. Once yo ur phone has been reset to its default settings fo r those selected options, it will restart itself in order to inco rporate the new settings.
My Stuff 56 Section 9: My Stuff The topics covered in this section are audi o, graphics, games, calendar , schedule even ts, set an alarm, and pe rform simple math calculations. Audio The Audio menu option allows you to shop tones, answer tones, and music using the WAP browser .
